I will be going again. The show was far from perfect and I hope they make improvements but I enjoyed it. My main gripe is it needs to decide on its audience. I think it would be great if it was cut down to a 80 minute family friendly show. Maybe lose the expletive at the end of act 1 and the baby eating.

I wonder if the original cast will return or whether they have enough sense to make a run for it!

I think it would be great if it was cut down to a 80 minute family friendly show. Maybe lose the expletive at the end of act 1 and the baby eating. The problem is that through two or three productions and Lord knows how many workshops, it's still the same group of artists who are all unproven and/or uncomfortable/untalented in the world of musical theatre talking to themselves about how to fix it, when they should allow someone in the room who actually knows what they're talking about. If it proves itself a hit, then all will be well. But if the show remains the truly awful ill-conceived and badly executed show which many of us saw last year, then it is a gross misuse of funds and nepotistic power at one of our major cultural institutions and Rufus should just get the f--k out.

Agreed. The NT has needed some hardcore dramaturgy for ages. Yes there have been successes but other than ‘Hadestown’ which was bought in, their new musical output has been…and this is generous… ‘mixed’ for years.

I wonder if the original cast will return or whether they have enough sense to make a run for it! Funny you mention that... I had a look at the production stills and Rosalie is in ONE; right in the corner. Considering she was in a lot of the press for it... strange. I have a feeling she may not be returning and maybe they're reworking it to not be as focussed on the Fairy.

Seems to be selling very well. Friend of mine has membership and booking opened today for her level of membership. On the date we are going in December nearly all the centre stalls have already gone and a lot of the circle. Checked another random date and the same.

Could John Partridge be cast in the new version? I luckily missed it last time so don't know what role he could take on.

Only shows how Norris puts his ego above good programming I'd like to know the financial arrangements in place for Norris and his wife for the NT runs and a potential transfer before ascribing it to ego (though whatever they are it is unlikely they reach Peter Hall levels of greed).

I am doubtful this will transfer or have any future beyond a theatre that isn't managed by Noris. Anyone know if any of his other musicals such Monkey, Dr Dee and Wonder.land have had a future beyond its initial staging?

It looks like few of the principal cast have stuck with the production. That is pretty telling.

While I hated Hex, I appreciate that others might have enjoyed it, and that the creative people involved have the right to try and make it work. The question is whether it's an appropriate use of the National Theatre. Surely, there are smaller venues where this experimentation can be indulged to see if something can be made of it.
What annoys me most, is that Hex will be tying up a large NT auditorium as its Christmas show, when they could have been cheering us up with some decent festive entertainment.
(To be fair, I feel similarly about the Old Vic putting on the same Xmas show each year.)

You are absolutely right about the seemingly endless repetition of Christmas Carol at the Old Vic and many other venues.
Yes it is a piece that is easy to sell. But there are too many productions of it now.
Far too many.

Also, it's not the NT's job to cheer people up.

Rufus Norris has lost his mind.
It wasn't enough for this show to flop in a huge way once - he now has to bring it back just to remind everyone of what a godawful idea it was to produce this tripe in the first place?
The National's programming has been piss-poor for some time now and they really need to up their game and get back to delivering powerhouse theatre, not 3rd rate musical flops getting a 2nd run and plays that are embarrassingly awful. National subscribers/audiences deserve more respect than this.

National subscribers/audiences deserve more respect than this. That's harsh on those involved with The Normal Heart, The Father and the Assassin, Jack Absolute, All of Us, Middle, Much Ado, The Crucible, Our Generation and others. I agree there's room for improvement and they haven't done an outstanding, sell-out production for a while, but those I've listed were all well worth seeing. I didn't see Manor, but that's the only play I can think of that sounded 'embarrassingly awful'.

I’m just going to say this. My review is posted early in this thread so this is something I 100% was not looking forward to revisiting but with Victoria’s casting - well, now I’m excited. It’ll obviously be the exact same trash show but at least now it’ll have someone in it who understands camp and will play it as such. She’s such an insanely talented actress that it’ll be almost impossible to hate (at least her scenes) this now.
