Saving Grace - Riverside Studios - Workshop Performances

It's a wonderful film with Brenda Blethyn. Filmed in Cornwall.

Don't know if anyone else got to see this, but I did make the Sunday matinee last week. Thanks to paul26 for the tip off on the seats. I managed to get back row centre, which really is only six rows back, so would count as premium seating in most theatres. There were a few empty seats around, so it may be worth trying on the day (I presume these were held for agents etc).

Lots of actors and theatre types in (not so many I recognised, although the people next to me were talking about the shows they were leaving/joining). I also had the director and others associated with the show near me and taking notes.

The director did mention at the start that this was a work in progress, but it seemed very polished and finished to me. I don't know the film, but this is easy to follow, decent music, a rather pantomime villain. Some good jokes, others where the people working on the show were the ones who were laughing. The most memorable song is essentially Dedicated Follower of Fashion with some slight changes and different words.

To me, the farcical elements of the second half are the strongest parts.

I quite enjoyed this and thing it deserves a longer life, but I wasn't immediately sure how much of an audience it would attract. I could see this touring smaller theatres with a name actor attached. There again, a lot of these film to musical productions do well and it may be that others know the film much better than me. I'd certainly see this again.
