Marcus was never a cover for Simon Senior. After Arun/Jemal its Dom Tribuzio who faces his back to the audience when he says his lines. Wow... interesting he was ahead of Marcus for that role. How did they do the hugging scene in the finale? instead of the 2 young boys coming out and hugging their fathers, they walk out and hug each other in the centre of the stage

The show has gone ahead tonight as planned but with the twist that all 4 Matildas are ill and Lara Mcdonnell, who finished up as Matilda in March, is back as Matilda this evening! Hopefully they can get everything sorted out soon and the girls are back to full health.

I probably saw less shows this year compared to 2015 but it was still a great year. I stay in Scotland so I'm restricted to a few short trips a year to London and the UK Tours which almost always come to either Glasgow or Edinburgh
Highs - Kinky Boots 6 times, I can't get enough of this show and plan to see it again next year! Miss Saigon in January, my biggest theatrical regret ever leaving it so late to see this masterpiece. Sister Act UK Tour in Glasgow, having heard a few mixed reviews I was apprehensive but I loved it! not as good as the Palladium production but still a great show with an amazing lead in Alexandra School of Rock at the end of November, excellent fun show lead well by the alternate Gary Trainor. I look forward to going back again soon.
Lows - Thriller, a terrible terrible show which is a shame as I adore MJ's music. I left at the interval. I hope this closes soon but I doubt it will.
General Thoughts - I also got to see the Annie UK Tour x2, Matilda x2, Priscilla Queen of the Desert (Duncan James YUMMY),Cats UK Tour, and a few other various tours in Glasgow as I am a ATG member so I try to go fairly often. I am seeing the Commitments on Wednesday from front row and have tickets for Harry Potter in February!

I still don't understand how they do Willy Wonka dissapearing at the end of Charlie. I even sat in the front row my most recent time seeing the show, at the end of the central row, so on a slight side view and I still couldn't figure out how it is done! Can someone explain, it has been one of those things bugging me since I saw the show in previews. Wonka walks over the the trap door and stands above it, during the 10-15 seconds he is standing there facing the factory, a metal frame comes up the hole and fits in around the jacket and holds the hat up. While this is happening, he climbs down the hole and the metal frame holding up the jacket and hat gives the impression that he is still standing there even though he's now under the stage. Then at the end the metal frame drops at high speed back down the trap door in turn making the costume drop! Hope this helps the same trap door is also used to make Augustus Gloop go down the waterfall and Veruca Salt to disappear into the hole where the squirrels throw the nuts.

Karen Mav will be on again tonight and tomorrow evening, not previously scheduled to be. Cue the usual rude tweets about it! I can understand people's frustrations but there's no need to tag the actress when you're ranting
I've now just seen its because Amber is performing at the Royal Variety show this evening

I'm completely clueless on how to post pictures and/or videos on here but... an audio has appeared on YouTube of Jemal Felix as Lola (3rd Cover) from last Monday. Bearing in mind that the original cast's 3rd cover Lola never even got to go on, this is great to hear!
After leaving the link in here I see it has appeared with the caption, easier than I thought!

Marcus would probably have looked way too young for that role, especially at that part in the show but he could have got away with doing the part in the nursing home after the old man make up is applied. Possibly. But if Simon/Lola is a child anyway it wouldn't really matter? Simon has played that role before and he's young. Good point! I forgot that at that point that Lola's dad would gave been considerably younger too. He just probably wasn't rehearsed for that track then, it's a lot of time to spend rehearsing a full track that is nothing like his normal one when there's a small chance he will ever go on as him. But it obviously was needed which is why they have 5 male swings this time instead of 4.

BIB - they've had to "get away with it" in the past. I saw the show in the summer while they were having issues with lots of people off and so certain ensemble members/swings playing multiple roles - one of the (white) angels had to take the Simon Sr role, as Matt and Callum were both out, and Arun was Lola. For his two appearances, he had his back to the audience, and at the end they had young Charlie and Lola hug each other rather than their fathers. That's strange, what about Marcus? I mean it's not exactly a lot to say "take those things off your feet and get inside her, stupid boy". Marcus would probably have looked way too young for that role, especially at that part in the show but he could have got away with doing the part in the nursing home after the old man make up is applied.

Ooo I didn't know Simon backed out?? Why would he have done that? I've heard great things about Jemal too. It's strange because when i saw the show on 2nd Nov and got a programme, it said Simon as 3rd cover? Why have they changed it and why is the original cover not performing? Maybe backed out wasn't the best choice of words by me lol as some people may read that as if he didn't want to go on as Lola, I'm more meaning that he tweeted he was on about 3pm and then at 4pm tweeted that his debut is 'on hold' for a little while. My best guess was he must have realised he wasn't feeling 100% and didn't want to be debuting while not feeling fully fit ? I know there's some hard core fans of the show on here and twitter so hopefully someone knows better than me! Still hoping someone will know why neither him nor his cast members tweeted about it yesterday when they were all tweeting about it on Monday. Jemal is great as an Angel, he has legs for days which actually looks very unusual when you first see them but it makes him stand out from the rest. It would be great to see him as Lola opposite Paul Ayres as Charlie, Paul is probably the smallest male in the cast and Jemal must be about 6ft8 in his heels. Craig is the 1st cover Lola and was on holiday last week so I'm not sure if he is still on holiday or is ill ? Matt isn't scheduled on the website to be on holiday so he must be ill. My programme lists Jemal ahead of Simon also but a friend told me that they only decided recently to make Simon 2nd cover instead of Jemal, I'm not too sure on the reasoning behind that. Simon is a slightly different swing from the others in that he doesn't cover any of the angels, only Lola and Factory Workers! Once again, I've no idea why this is the case. I could only assume its because with the original cast, when Robert Grose who plays Simon Senior, is off, they had to get one of the angels to go in his track as its fairly essential to the plot that its a person of colour who does that track, although I guess they could away with it as that part in the scene is quite dark. Simon played Simon Senior from his debut in August for 3 months straight while Robert was off ill, he had some kind of operation I believe.

Simon-Anthony Rhoden, who was meant to go on as Lola (2nd u/s) on Monday but backed out of it a few hours before the show, went on last night for the first time. He is also on for both shows today!
Unusually for that show, he didn't tweet about being on yesterday and neither did any other cast members, which is unusual because the cast of Kinky Boots are usually very vocal on social media about when they're on in their cover roles or when swings are on. The first of it being publicly 'advertised' was when Michael Vinsen tweeted about it after. I wonder why ? he tweeted about being on for Lola on Monday before he backed out. It could be it happened so last minute that he had no time! but he had friends in watching so I'm not so sure about that one.
On a side note, Jemal Felix who went on as Lola on Monday (3rd cover, highly unlikely he will get on again if the original cast is anything to go by) has got great reviews by a few people who managed to get tickets to see him.

For anyone interested, the 3rd cover for Lola, 'Jemal Felix' will be on this evening for the first time!! The original casts 3rd cover never got to go on. Originally it was Simon who is 2nd cover but for whatever reason he isn't anymore. It would be great to see for anyone who is close by!

Why is the main guy missing shows already? A friend of mine went tonight and said he was off again. Is he truly hoping to emulate Alex Brightmans shocking attendance record in London? My friends comments were basically it's good but better on Broadway. Thought the alternate was good but some of the kids were not very good. And Priya Kalidas gives a really screechy annoying performance He wasn't at the show tonight because he was on the One Show...

I expect the casting of this to get announced this week for sure (even though we've been saying that for months), because Christopher Key, the associate director, tweeted today 'It's time to rock, my school of rock UK journey begins!' And then attached a picture of the theatre in NY, possibly referencing the fact he's leaving the Broadway show for the London one. Fingers crossed for Monday !

Saw this the other day with a clutch of understudies. Usually not a problem - often great energy and adrenaline on stage when this happens. The fantastic children carried the show. That is all. Out of curiosity, what understudies did you see ? Matilda has some excellent understudies, some I prefer to the leads!

I heard on the grapevine a possibility that Killian would be going to Broadway... Maybe for Kinky or are they taking Commitments there? Which would rule him out. I still think they'll be opening with an American (not Alex but maybe Will Blum or similar alternate for US) and then have Tim Prottey Jones as a cover? maybe go back to Nathan Amzi when they can get him out of Aladdin. Shame I'd much prefer they find a UK name. All feels rather last minute. Tim definitely auditioned but i've no idea how far he got in the process, but I do agree that I can see him in the role, as a cover more likely, and he just left Kinky Boots. I can see them bringing Alex over to open it, most likely for a short run like 3 months. Afterwards ? who knows, I personally cant see Killian being able to pull off Dewey. I hadn't even considered him going to broadway for Kinky Boots but now that you mentioned it, its a great idea, and if they got Matt to go to after his 2nd year, the advertising would write itself.

Killian Donnelly asked at stage door last night if he's doing School of Rock and he replies to the girl with 'sshhhhhh'... not exactly the most concrete of evidence but if he wasn't, you would think he would say no. No idea how this would fit around the show in Ireland he has been cast in ? personally I don't see him fitting the role of Dewey to be honest!

None of the principals are leaving at this cast change, I believe! There will be a new Miss Honey as an agent accidentally announced it about a month ago before retracting their tweet, Collette Coleman I believe.

Anyone made there way over to the Adelphi tonight for the final performance of the full Original Cast? I wonder how well the new cast will mould into the production this coming year. I'm thrilled Matt Henry is sticking around another contract! it seems all the hardcore fans are there, about 6 of them queueing overnight for dayseats from 10pm!

Does anyone know when the London cast change is? Its always the 2nd or 3rd week of September if you're referring to the adults, the kids all start and leave a few a week from the beginning of September until the beginning of October

The kids have all been cast, they found out last Tuesday, a few known west end kids and the vast majority are new-comers. Hopefully Alex comes over (personal opinion) but I think they may stay British.
