Thouroughly enjoyed this today, Daniel Mays never fails to put in a good performance in everything that I’ve seen him in and I loved him in this. Marisha Wallace is very different from all the Adelaide’s I’ve seen before and I thought her and Mays worked well together. Both seemed to be really enjoying themselves. I thought the management of the immersive experience was very good and hard work by the staff. 30yrs ago I might have bought an immersive seat but I was very glad I was sat. One thing I found rather off putting and once I noticed it, it was all I focused on was Andrew Richardson’s lisp/speech impediment. So many words sounded odd. Is it just me that noticed this? I too noticed the speech impediment but it didn’t overly worry me. What frustrated me more as his over emphasis of everything and lots of blinking and over emoting.

Dancing at Lughnasa is selling very heavily and could be on course to sell out before it starts previews. Sorry? I just checked and there’s shedloads of tickets left across the run?

Can’t believe they have made a musical of the Saw movies. Those torture scenes are going to be hard to stage. Bound to be some walkouts

I guess the positive about you not going is that it frees up a ticket for somebody to enjoy it and/or have an informed opinion about it when it opens. Silver linings all round. We all have to make decisions about shows that have not opened based on the information provided by the producers and the venue. I stand by my interpretation of what has been announced here. It runs contrary to my view of a brilliant show. When people are making choices as to how to spend their limited disposable income, they are entitled to use whatever they like to reach their decisions. Making snide comments towards me is really not a helpful contribution to a discussion. Nothing snide about my comments. I stand by my interpretation of giving the show a chance based on wanting to hear more than the limited information provide by the producers and venue thus far. Perfectly valid - and not snide - contribution to the open, and mutually respectful conversation.

Also wasn't Sondheim all up for the company changes? Was a great production as well! I'll give this one a go. Its just a silly musical. Things should move with the times if it works. There is nothing about moving with the times about regendering characters. It is, if anything, becoming very predictable. And I would take exception to the idea that this is a silly musical. It is actually a clever, witty look at a number of key subjects and all done with a light touch. I guess the positive about you not going is that it frees up a ticket for somebody to enjoy it and/or have an informed opinion about it when it opens. Silver linings all round.

There is a difference between refreshing a show and just using it as a vehicle for the whims and caprices of a director. What is key, for me, is respecting the essence of the original. This is something that brilliant reinterpretations do. And reinterpretations are at the top of my list of best shows I have seen over the past 30/50 years. There is nothing about what has been announced about this version that gives any real indication that this necessary respect to the material is being given. I'm pretty sure this production will respect 'the essence of the original' There isn't really enough info on it to make firm decisions on it either way yet so I think I will wait to see it/hear feedback before taking a line. But I sure am glad they are doing something fresh with it as I absolutely don't want to see another 'traditional' version of it. And I wouldn't expect Southwark to do that. And if this one doesn't 'work' then inevitably there will be another more faithful production of it coming down the line.

My statement 'Guess time with determine there's any truth in it' still stands Yes. It does.

The lack of empathy for Jude is completely down to Yanagihara. She piles on the tragedy to such an extent that eventually you end up immune to the horror, saying "that's sad, whatever next, and has she ever met a gay man in her life before? " Disagree. I felt lots of empathy for Jude in the book. And I could understand his qualities that drew people to him. Just not really in the play.

Pretty well perfect production of this classic. The leads very classy, choreography great, staging great and all the minor characters tip top. They didn't mess about with it. Should do well…..( I’ve already rebooked..) If you are in a rush at the end, then don't wear a big coat or have a big bag cos the cloakroom collection is epic. Couldn’t disagree more. Funny how people come out thinking different things and bring different things to shows.

I don't want to derail this thread from the focus on the production, so I'll just note that dimensionality of the characters has been widely debated (you can easily find articles and reviews online about it). Many of us found the characters in the book well-developed and anything but two-dimensional. And some of the many reasons people love Jude is that he is smart, loyal, generous, and yes, somewhat broken. Which I don’t think comes across strongly in the play. I love the book and the character in the book. I thought Jude had been rendered fairly one dimensional in the stage production (albeit acted incredibly well by James)

My money's on Alfie Boe, Russell Watson, Paul Potts or Rhydian In one of the smaller female roles?
I'm hoping, probably in vain, that by 'smaller female role' we're talking the housekeeper and not Guilietta.
Yes. In one of the smaller female roles. I'm VERY broadminded.

Yes, if you look at the theatre from the perspective of the band being behind you, they play out more to the band and the left side and the neon set favours this side more; that said, it is truly in the round and much of the action also took place at the top right. I would suggest this is best viewed from Gallery 1 or 2 for the spectacle, then probably the immersion of the floor if you can hack three hours on your feet. I'm not sure the stalls offer the best experience for this show but will find out when I go back in a week or so. Looking at the seating chart on the Bridge Theatre, is it best to be on the side of Door D and A, Door E, Door B and C, or the side directly opposite from Door D and A which doesn't have any door marking? Door E

People who like boring musicals? Well if they will turn up to see pretentious bores like "Standing At The Sky's Edge", anything is possible. :-) Wow
