Just mailed you Darryl! Thought I’d come back on the board and occasionally lower the tone. x

I would like to thank tbfl for letting me see both series of Smash when I didnt have Sky Atlantic. It was deliciously aawful and it was too drawn out in the second series even though this was better musically. Overall I loved it, though KMP did look bored out of her brain occasionally.

Went to the newly re-opened Fairfield Halls last night to see Tim Howar and Louise Dearman and one of my first thoughts on exploring the multi million pound refurbishment was what have they done to improve the Ladies? I remember having to breathe in in the cubicles because they were such a tight fit. All that money spent and nearly three years dark and they hadnt finished painting around the entrance to the toilets in the foyer and the first cubicle had Out of Order on it. And then I opened the doors and there were men inside! Not real men, but pictures on the doors of David Bowie, Omid Djalili, Ray Davies, Omar from Duro Pistols and one with Cilla Black. Fancy, having them watching you while you go inside. Get out men it's the ladies.

Saw this in Madrid last month, stunning production, worthy of a West End run.

I was wondering whether the theatres which host the Royal Variety Performance assign a member of the front of house team to guard the Royal lavatories.
Not so long ago a member of the Royal Family came into somewhere where I work and I was asked to be guardian of the designated bog, My task was to keep people away and say "You cant go in there, royalty only". The toilet was sweeped by the staff, then cleaned, inspected, found to not be clean enough, and so Vera the cleaner was brought back and she washed the walls and primped the toilet paper and sprayed all sorts to make it fragrant. And she hung around the corner for 40 minutes to see who was going to mess up her handywork, When he finally appeared he was in and out like a flash and said thanks awflly and went. All that fuss for such a quick visit.
Now we know what the royal we really is.

To start page 371 of this thread
The time I sat next to a lady of the night.
I saw that the young woman sitting next to me was looking bored so I innocently asked her "aren't you enjoying the show?"
"Not really" she yawned "but he's paying me very well to try and enjoy it" and I saw that the man next to her, aged about 80, was caressing her knee.
I ignored the until the second half when I caught out of the corner of my eye that her head was bobbing up and down in between his knees. Eeuw.
That was enough for me to make a quick exit from the show.

Horrible evening at Motown the musical at Sunderland Empire tonight. I've never seen the show before and was looking forward to it. Unfortunately it was completely spoilt by some of the worst audience members I have ever had the misfortune to sit in a room with. I shuddered in recognition when I read your post, Shady, because this was very similar to what I encountered when this show was in the West End. Such selfish, self seeking, memememe people who didnt give a toss about being in the same room as other human beings so long as they could whoop and holler and dance on the seats when they wanted. Shouldnt have been allowed out, never mind allowed in.

This was better than expected, faultless dancing and a mishmash of styles, but didnt mind thta because it would have been repetitive and boring with just Irish dancing

I'm away from Theatreboard for months, and the first thing that I see when I come back is a thirty two page thread about toilets! I can only agree about the signage, it lacks the inspiration of Heathrow Airport who had a whole wall in one of their terminals with all the destinations that they fly to on it. And underneath the 'Bog' in 'Bogota' were the bogs.
Worst toilets ever in a theatre were in the Strand before it became the Novello, so narrow you couldnt manoeuvre round.

Queenie - sod the diet and be happy
So I had all the things I wanted in pret a manger
1,200 calories
I'm a lost cause
I only came on here to discuss musical theatre nicely

Hello all I just noticed the adverts at the top of theatre board which adchoices put on. Was wondering which ones other people have and what the advertisers are trying to sell to them? I think because I put my website onto my profile this got read as me loving golf and so American Golf Discount appeared, fair enough. But then I got an advert about first class airline travel to Japan and one from Maserati - I take the bus I'm not made of money! Then I got an oddly related one about 'swinging' from the Tate Modern. Wondering how far this will go, will I eventually get the type of swingers who want to exchange car keys? Before Dress Circle message board was taken down it was drowning in advertising spam, prom dresses from China and then adverts for cheap . viagra. Let's hope theatre board can keep this at bay. I sometimes get adverts elsewhere from Freeds dance shoes which I've clicked on and had a look. It's funny how these digital marketing companies try and work out what to try and flog you.

Ah, the end of an era with Mr Crook's retirement. What a huge contribution the management of this theatre have made to the careers of young people with the Masterclass Trust. Long may it continue.

I watched Imagine last night, and I'm sure it was an old programme "topped and tailed" by Images of "Half a sixpence". I've certainly seen most of it before. I thought exactly the same Hulmey, it looked so familiar.
The insights of him as a child impresario, Darryl F Mackinstosh, were a bit scary, as though he was on a predetermined path.
Think it did have an angle to show him as a bit dramatic and difficult. But thought the section about his and Michael's relationship was nicely done.

I love Brigadoon and wish it would have a London showing, with John Barrowman. Though remembering his antics at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony he would have to reign in his enthusiasm.

Not so much bad behaviour, but a little warning for those who wear low-cut dresses to the National Theatre: Now this raises an interesting point Monkey. I've sensed a few times a reverse snobbery at the National. I've noticed that people don't tend to dress up and I've heard a few comments directed towards women who do prefer to dress up for the theatre, as though they are out of place and breaking some kind of unwritten rule that we are arty people at the National and we don't do that. Ladies who wear low cut tops will want to be watched and would savour the mountaineering exercise of the Littleton Circle.

Because they mentioned it. We learnt a lot about them because after tucking into the three bottles of wine they brought into the auditorium they were sharing a lot of information, hardly any of which was related to the show.

I'm returning to the board after a long time away, this catches my eye and it's 146 pages long? That's a lot of bad behaviour. I did a search for Motown, expecting it to be mentioned in this thread and nothing came up. The fact they have to have a warning notices about over exuberance at The Shaftesbury says it all. Didn't stop the very drunk women from Romford in the row in front shouting and getting up and dancing and then giving everyone a mouthful when they were told to calm down. Front of house staff looked to scared to step in. When a show gets a reaction like this they need to employ security guards in the auditorium rather than ordinary staff. It was a hellish experience. shudders.

Hello again everyone
On this Saturday's The Voice contestant Kit Rice mentioned that his parents were musical theatre performers and he toured all over with them as a young child. Anyone know who they are?
Kit Rice was apparently "seen supporting Ed Sheeran and Tom Jones" on leaving the Brit School. He also previously said "I don't want to participate in reality shows such as the X Factor, turning the music industry into a competition"
Guess he or Sir Tom changed his mind about that.

Many of you will remember West End actor Colin Roy (SoulTrain, Five Guys Named Moe, Sweet Charity, Hair). Colin has a brilliant new single out with a meaningful message for our times. Take a look at the video here.
