I gave this some thought on the way home tonight and think that Ben Forster could do very well financially out of this and could even win the whole amount he is suing for, if it can be demonstrated that the producers’ showed total disregard for Elf & Safety.

Patina Miller was excellent in this. However she would be know Whoopi at the box office.
Does the roles necessarily have to be BAME casting though?

Why would a broken ankle rule someone out from performing leading roles? Unless you are auditioning to play Electra in Starlight Express.
David Birrell only got £250k when he was blinded in one eye in the Donmar Warehouse production of Passion, when a prop gun malfunctioned. Now I would say that is a more career threatening injury, as well as being a completely awful thing to happen. I was surprised how low the compensation was.

Many shows at Bath are listed ‘prior’ to the West End that don’t.
Last revival was in 2019, which is by my reckoning 3 yers ago, so seems too soon.

It there wasn’t one, which is in a way very sad.
Normally their artistic announcement is met with great anticipation, with speculation ahead of the very announcement. So after a difficult 2 years there first full announcement should have been met with great excitement.
So I read in to it that no thread must mean board members including myself are very disappointed with what is being proposed.
Which is a shame.

But the critics and Mark Shenton insist this is a 5 star production. Insist? I thought they were just giving their opinion. I happen to agree with them. I happen to disagree with the critics and that is coming from a massive ALW fan or even enjoyed Stephen Ward. The critics only gave Cinderella 5 stars as it was the first big show to open after the pandemic, those adverts in their newspaper with their 5 stars flashed across the page, brings nice money into the coffers. The Olivier panel seems to have agreed with this by a snub. Victoria was more than deserving for her nomination and she could win an Oliver. At The Imperial, I believe. Surprised they didn't get the Shubert as POTUS is only a limited run. I thought the rumour was it was heading for the Imperial.

The musical totally underperformed except for 1 nom…does this mean ALW is no longer liked by the voters?? Is it a new era? Or maybe the show is just not very good? But the critics and Mark Shenton insist this is a 5 star production.

I see this very good offer, but find it disappointing.
I see a seat available and selecting, then I get the whirly thingy come up saying loading, then keeps coming up as error. Very frustrating,

I don’t understand why this advantage is down to venue, ultimately doesn’t matter how cheap the ticket is, you are still a valid customer. I can understand if this was down to the producer.
I wonder if the Brighton theatre does day ticket? Worst case is look at the seating map and see if it is selling, go down there and ask for a “day ticket please” and if they don’t then bite the bullet, which in my case would be buying a cheap one at the back and then I might have a look at the theatre architecture just before the curtain, especially down the front for a really good view.

As I'd never heard of ATG day tickets until you mentioned them some time ago, Phantom of London , I asked last time I was at the New Victoria in Woking (also an ATG venue) recently, but they said they didn't do day tickets and these might be specific to a certain venue. Their only concession would be not charging a booking fee for those buying in person but that's standard across the brand, I think, and no use to anyone who couldn't risk travelling without having booked. I have had the same thing at the New Wimbledon Theatre, however the Richmond Theatre always oblige for plays that are not selling well and that is most. It is strange when it is down to the venue, I would have thought it would be across the board. The day ticket can only be purchased an hour before curtain. A couple of these discounts and savings on booking fee and the card pays for itself.

I saw hout and a half late at Richmond today and bagged one of those cardholder day tickets for £13 and got given row G, dead centre.
A couple of those and the card pays for itself.

Does it strictly have to be in the title? Sure she will shoehorn in Memory given its references to stars, sun etc. Nice little bump on the royalties cheque if it's her version too Strictly yes. But as you mention Memory, Elaine doesn’t need much of an excuse to put a song on from ‘yours truly.’ May I say some cracking suggestions, I didn’t realise there would be so many!

I booked to see this last night and no mention of Jessie Buckley being “out” I paid 3x times more than my Covid cancelled ticket in December.
If you are star billing in a show which Jessie Buckley is - then you should perform in every show unless sick, especially when it is a limited run show. Her priority is the show and not picking up a award, if picking up award is so important to her and Netflix she could have flown to LA Sunday morning and got her award that evening, it doesn’t take a week to pick up an award I’m afraid and I will be surprised if it is a contract obligation to attend a none to prestigious awards.

Good mention of South Africa as it prompts me to remember two of my political heros, they were both around at the same time time, the first being Nelson Mandela and the second one being Mikhail Gorbachev, I remember all too well in secondary school of watching with joy that wretched Berlin Wall coming down, which is seeming to be undone by that evil psychopath in Moscow, which started this very thread

Went through the songs on my phone just out of interest and goodness there's a lot! Lyricists like their celestial themes I guess: Old Devil Moon - Finian's Rainbow Moon Change; Moon Trio; Moon, Emmie and Stuart Trio - Caroline, or Change A Ring Around the Moon; Shoot the Moon - Spitfire Grill Stars and the Moon - Songs for a New World Evenin' Star - 110 in the Shade Written in the Stars - Aida I'm the Greatest Star - Funny Girl The Greatest Star of All - Sunset Boulevard On This Night of a Thousand Stars - Evita Starchild - Ghost Quartet Stars - Les Misérables Good Morning Starshine; Let the Sun Shine In - Hair Out of the Sun - Honeymoon in Vegas Spread a Little Sunshine - Pippin Sun and Shade - Far From Heaven Sunrise; When the Sun Goes Down- In the Heights Sunrise Letter - Passion Sunrise, Sunset - Fiddler on the Roof The Sun Sits Low; The Sun Won't Set - A Little Night Music There Will Be Sun - Groundhog Day Your Grandfather Is the Sun - Marie Christine Now I don't listen to Elaine Paige's show that much but I find it hard to imagine she'll be playing numbers from the likes of Far From Heaven or Ghost Quartet, but the Les Mis, Fiddler and the like stuff have a chance to appear. She obviously does play the more popular songs from musicals/movies but she also does obscure.

Elaine Paige this Sunday is going to do a special edition Sun, Moon & Stars show. She normally records to show on a Friday so hence why doing this thread now so they cannot pinch our suggestions.
So what songs can you think of that might be played this Sunday with Sun, Moon and Stars in the title? I can think of off the top of my head;
Stars - Les Miserable Sun & Moon - Miss Saigon The Stars Look Down - Billy Elliot The Moon and Me - The Addams Family
There must be plenty more and you musicals buffs will know some obscure ones?

If people have paid up to £250 blind hoping for a big name to take over and then to cash in on a resale website such as viagogo, I absolutely have no sympathy.

Under Hytner didn't the National have some kind of agreement to transfer shows to the Lowry Centre?
There is going to be a new theatre for Shakespeare outside Liverpool, that is going to open soon
Same as London as it is in other parts of the country, it is all well and good saying how money should be distributed, but you also need to put bums on seats by selling seats, unfortunately the country's population is London/Home Counties centric.

Theatre has always been the hardest work for the smallest pay. But then again you have the instant gratification of a large audience, which in itself is aphrodisiac that is lacking in tv and film.

I would never ordinarily agree to the National losing its funding, until HEX and now it should lose its funding because of that and send a very strong message across the arts field that Art Council funding should be about the arts and not nepotism.
Also I would agree because of that the Arts Council should be disbanded and the long arm policy ditched and funding should be brought into Government control, no more free lunches and blank cheques.
What happened at the National was completely shocking.

At least if you saw it last year and plan to revisit this year then you don’t have to buy another programme.
No doubt it will be this cast for the next 10 years and Nigel Havers will be back.
