Note that they sing the only known song from the show, the rest are totally forgetful. What a wasted opportunity. I hear it is being completely re-conceived for Broadway. The score is apparently going to be a mix of the musical score and the original film score. Totally as it SHOULD have been (Chitty, Mary Poppins etc)

The new song "Queen of Pop" sung by Violet was performed the other day at West End Live (along with Jonathan Slinger and Charlie singing Pure Imagination) Mmmm so not that much different from Double Bubble Duchess. It's OK, it does the job of introducing her and gives the actress a chance to show off a bit vocally. Note that they sing the only known song from the show, the rest are totally forgetful. What a wasted opportunity. I hear it is being completely re-conceived for Broadway.

Really?! Is it only to insiders or to anyone? Papering is a don't ask don't tell topic.
Producers give/release them to the cast, students, industry professionals, box office staff, front of house, ticketing agencies, bloggers - in other words the general public will never know of this.
If you do your homework there are 4 online clubs in London that are popular (No I'm not giving their names) but they have waiting lists and you have to pay to be on their "books" for free tickets. Such papering companies are used to make theatres look full when they are often suffering a little.

Because the theatre is horrible that's why!!!
Is it? What's wrong with it?
It is sticky, next to ventilation shafts, has no air or light, is inside a sticky arch, part of a drunken pub, a smelly café and the theatre itself inside is the strangest shape (too long) of any theatre I've ever visited.
It's right in the middle of the West End but feels worse than many fringe venues.
That said the show is great.

To be fair to her she has been treated terribly. She was a massive reason the show was the hit it was.. And to be tossed aside like that is pretty shoddy. And ALW shouldn't have let it happen. If they are going to say it's a new production , they shouldn't sell it with the original logo. That's just misleading the public. This is a disgrace if the whole show has been rechoreographed - it ran over over two decades because of the success from her input!
That said, it's a small theatre world and I'M NOT SURE if being so vocal will do any favours. She's 90 bless her..
Restaging one song for the tugger is fine but not the whole show!!!

Are there two or three acts? (If two, what's the first act finale?) I don't know as we left in the interval with various other audience members... Dreadful show.

Amazing how you can go from hating something to loving it. That was my journey with Love Never Dies. The score is gorgeous, but then again, perhaps it never should have been done in the first place and the score completely used for a new story. I think that would have worked better.
I do wish he would resurrect his Master and Margarita stage plans! Forget political type shows, he did it once with Evita, something new is needed.
As for the autobiography - hurry up and write it Andrew! Although he will upset many by the sound of it!! eek!

You say 'sweaty nightclub' and 'drunken after party place' like thats a bad thing.... Some of my best nights/mornings our have been spent in those places! You can tell you haven't travelled much then! London's nightlife is very dirty, sticky floors, crazy opening/closing times, expensive and generally lacks style and often health and safety! Each to their own.... Now back to the sinking ship and the camp actors.

This show is sensational.
J K Rowling thingy needs to come and see this then dare tell the cast is it less than "theatre" or any straight play.
It is theatre at its best. What a ghastly woman!! Boycot that new Harry Potter play - that's hardly a Boris Godunov or a Greek tragedy!

Saw this tonight. Dreadful show. Lots left in the interval and a few even before!!!
Dated, dull, sexist, abstract, discordant (ok it's meant to be) but I couldn't stand it.
Wonder.land the sequel. What is it with the national and awful music theatre?
Using the guy in the wheelchair for the entire audience to laugh at was a disgrace!!! PC/diversity card is wasn't!

The Charring Cross theatre under a stinky dark arch opposite a sweaty nightclub inside a drunken after party place is not sweet!!!

I saw this last night. It was an eventful evening.
First of all some of the music is sensational. Real goosebump type moments. Lady's Maid, We'll Meet Tomorrow etc. It was the first time I had ever seen the show on stage after adoring the Broadway cast album in the late 90's.
That said, parts of the show were stunning and other parts really fell flat. A third of the cast needs to be recast. Some of the actors and singers were excellent and others were simply terrible. One in particular was just too camp I'm sorry and one of the other crew members (will leave it there) was like Benny Hill with flat singing and physicality. I also had issues with some of the tone of the piece, the pacing and the doubling up of characters - did they do that on Broadway? Why didn't they explore the third class passengers more?
There were a few sound issues with dodgy mics and although I loved the lifeboat scenes dare I say it, at times I found it bordering on tasteless - the rag worked for me but the opening of act 2 not. It's a fine line between classy and tacky. Authentic and hamming it up.
Finally at the end of the show there was a fishy and smoke smell in the theatre. We laughed on the way out saying surely they didn't add this to effect. On exiting we saw a theatre type manager in a tux screaming at the Vietnamese restaurant next door saying he will "get the council to shut them down!"
Thomas Southerland the director and Danielle Tarento the producer looked quite shocked. There was more drama when leaving than onstage! Drinks thrown from the guy and everything!
The book isn't perfect and neither were some performances but we still liked it. Just a shame it's in that theatre also, smells aside, it's not the best. 9/10 moments mixed with 2/10. A confused bag and I get the feeling from the faces of the team that they know it and have failed to recreate the magic of the Southwark Playhouse production with this new cast.

He needs to stay away from these types of shows and go back to something like Starlight or Cats. Imagine the Candlemakers Daughter type Lloyd Webber show.

Does the flying carpet work with hydraulics of flying wires? By magic, surely? Oh come on people this is theatre and all about effects! A solid piece of metal can only have two ways of "floating" in the air. A spoiler has been added for those who do not want to know how it is done. {Spoiler - click to view}
Apart from an electronic metal arm like the car in Chitty there is no other way to physically do it apart from wires. There are wires suspending the carpet, but there are motors so that the wires spin around super fast and appear invisible, rather than remain still in the connections. They are very difficult to see in low light, especially when crossing the moon etc. The audience 10 meters away cannot see them. This is how David Copperfield does his levitation tricks.

Ooooo I am so excited for Finding Neverland and School of Rock. Hamilton, I agree is meh, but only because I don't wanna be disappointed because of all the hype so I don't even know if I wanna risk seeing it. The only shows that put me off are jukebox musicals or tributes like Let It Be/Motown. Yes I saw The Girls and Finding Neverland. Ugh.
Let It Be isn't really a musical and you can't really compare with Mowtown.

Plus for rather a lot of people, the Palladium IS their local panto. By the time you factor travel to an out of town show on top of ticket prices which, even regionally, are in the £40-60 bracket at the larger venues, there's not much to choose between them on an attendance cost basis... but a lot in terms of show budget and that can make a huge difference to the end product! Personally, I booked a ticket for this as soon as it was announced - just the concept of panto back at the Palladium was enough to draw me in. Now I know who's in it, I may well book again! This is nonsense.. Wimbledon has had a name like David Hasslehoff!!!! (This is an example of A list talent) That's a tube ride from London!
The casting for this V the prices is terrible. Unless they get a killer name I'm not going.

This just feels like this story has been done to death, between the uk tours and west end run of the play and also the movie, is there an audience for a musical Me Totally bored with the story and so are many people. Also Gary Barlow should be banned from writing musicals. I'm serious.

I think westendwendy was talking about hiring for theatre where a run of any length is needed. Sheridan will now be regarded as a risk for that. Exactly!!!

And if it doesn't get a run elsewhere it's only a 2 hour train ride from London to Sheffield then 5 minutes walk to the theatre. Tickets £23. Although sadly the cost of the train will be 4 times the cost of the theatre ticket... What has happened to the UK? ((
