There is a really bad habit in these parts to pluralise usually brand names but all sorts. Tesco = Tescos, Asda = Asdas, Costa = Costas. Yes that's true. I blame Sainsbury's.

The season is almost over, and NOW he tells me. Could have cleaned up with a stand near the park... Haha. It's England. There is never a season where it's not appropriate to carry an emergency poncho!!! ;-)

Yeah, people learning English as an additional language learn it properly. Us native speakers just pick it up as we go, with all the pitfalls inherent in that being our learning technique. I don't think it's taught properly in the UK though. I only learnt English properly when I learnt foreign languages.

You can buy the official Regent's Park rain poncho for about £5. It's a thin yellow bin-bag with sleeves and a hood, and does go right down to at least the knees, depending how tall you are. It does work, I have to say, but the sound is muffled with the hood up. You can get five ponchos on Amazon for £6.99. Five colours too, to match most outfits!! ;-)

viserys, I'm a language learner and teacher. Foreign speakers of English often speak it more correctly than us (I realise this thread could turn into a let's try and outdo each other (whom instead of who etc.), but please let's not do that.)

She is just the sort of person who would sadly attract a lot of twitter trolls if she became mainstream famous. We joke about getting a reaction from her on here but others would do it and it wouldn't be subtle. Yeah, but she'd get justification from the people she thinks matter, so what's the problem?!

I know language evolves, but there have to be some parameters. I know far too many teachers who can't speak English properly. I observed an English lesson where a teacher mistaught the children about similes.
Perhaps it's time we start protecting our language, like the French.

I can't remember, was there a spoiler thread last year? Maybe there should be this year anyway.

Nowadays, there are so many people who don't seem to know the difference between 'been' and 'being.' See also 'his' and 'he's,' 'wonder' and 'wander.'
Do not get me started on the past participles. 'I have went . . .'
Your turn! :-)

Ah no, monkey. It would be just my luck for the rain to be very light Yes it would be. Does anyone know if it did make it through last night? If it's pouring with rain and not looking like it'll let up? How long do they let you stay there?? They usually keep you hanging around in the bar area for about 30 minutes before they call it. After that, most people leave quickly and swim for it. Don't think they keep the place open much longer. Always best to take rainwear for any eventuality, really. Or they could provide it. Having see-through ponchos over the audience and performers wouldn't affect the show much.

The problem is mainly the book, then the direction and finally the set (and maybe the costumes). There is a great show in there, but lay off the Fellowes!!!

So I've just ventured back into this thread. I do apologise for my tone in my earlier post. I shall now post my thoughts about the word Queer (abridged).
When I applied for Uni in 2003 and then got an Interview in February 2004, I was intrigued to find that my interviewer was a specialist in 'Queer Theory.' I did some research and when it came to the interview it was extremely lightweight; I got my offer reduced (I.e. I needed lower grades because I was so marvellously charming and open of course).
As a gay guy at Uni I joined the LGBT society in Freshers' Week. Mistake. Anyway, I went along and at some point we went to 'Queer' (bar) on Canal Street. Quite a nice place but still odd as a name to me.
(At this point I feel I should say that I think T should be separate from LGBT. T is so much more than sexuality and requires so much more bravery but while the Ts are still happy to be lumped in with us LGBs, I am honoured.)
I could bore you with many other instances in my life which may have formed my decisions. I won't.
As I look at it now, it is LGBTQQIAAP. The Qs stand for Queer and Questioning, which seem to have their own descriptions. If Queer is to be a catch-all term then something needs to change; it can't be both.
If someone came up to me tomorrow and said 'you're queer aren't you?' I'd need clarification. If someone came up to me and said 'you f***ing queer,' I'd assume you were my Aunt and take offence.
I'm a linguist, I get that words can mean different things, but if Queer is the overarching term then it shouldn't be included on the LGBT... letters list.
Of course we then open up the discussion of what is the difference between a gay woman and a lesbian?

If it is rained off, you get a credit note, of course, and stay dry. Win-win. If it's pouring with rain and not looking like it'll let up? How long do they let you stay there?? Just curious as I wouldn't want to walk back to Baker Street in the pouring rain haha.

Well, I have decided not to go. It is raining moderately here at Wembley and has been doing so for the past 30 minutes or so. If I wasn't 80 years of age and afflicted with various infirmities I would say damn the weather and set off regardless but I'm too old now for that. And I know that my decision means that it will remain fine in Regent's Park for the rest of the evening. But thanks guys for your response to my post. I don't blame you. It's a long way from the station as well and the weather has been all over the place today.

Thanks TallPaul. So that means the seats will be wet for the start of the show and then the finale will be rained on – lightly. The forecast from the Weather Channel on my iPhone has been changing all day and is currently saying 30% rain at 8pm and 9 pm. If I go, it will rain (lightly) and if I stay at home it won't rain. I still haven't decided! Oh how marvellous. You can wear one of those lovely plastic ponchos. They're so stylish! Haha. I'm just about to buy five - honestly!!

The girl Emily is called @thenewpsies on Twitter, I've no idea if she's on here. When I met her at School of Rock dayseat line, lovely girl! She told me she knows of the board, a long time lurker but not a full on member haha I think she was a fan of In The Heights and I saw her there a couple of times.

If some tweeted her that she was in their (Sega) dreamcast for the role, I can imagine her tweet back: 'Well, duh!' I think she would be a great Nettie or Squeak! Imagine if they just gave her a non-speaking cameo.

Yes I agree, I didn't even remember the name of the new song whoops! That was the highlight for me in the London show. I would have loved to have seen Patina Miller! She was great. I saw her fifteen times, fourteen in London, once on Broadway. Cynthia was great too (although probably don't mention it to her nowadays). It's a shame really because Mary Patrick was such a big part of the London production (and the films) but the Broadway rewrite seemed to forget about her.

Maybe they should just make The Color Purple musical into a film and get it over and done with. I hope you're not assuming she'd reprise her role. How dare you! If some tweeted her that she was in their (Sega) dreamcast for the role, I can imagine her tweet back: 'Well, duh!'

I saw this earlier in the year and although it is an enjoyable evening out I didn't think it was as good as the Palladium show. I didn't see Alexandra Burke but the understudy was good. I also saw the understudy at the Palladium so I have never seen it with the 'star'. The one song I was looking forward to most was 'How I got the Calling'. It is still in the show but has been rewritten and is quite different, I much prefer the original. I don't know what others thought about it? I preferred the Broadway and first UK Tour choreography for it but that's it. It's Good To Be A Nun doesn't do the job that How I Got The Calling did. It doesn't set up the characters like Calling did. We learnt so much about Maries Patrick and Robert in that one number, which the new script doesn't replace elsewhere.
