Hi everyone, I'm really keen to see &juliet before it closes but all the remaining tickets are just too expensive! I'm hoping to get rush/day seats this Saturday for the evening performance but I'm worried it'll be so popular that I'll be unsuccessful. Has anyone got any tips? Or knows of any offers? Thanks! Saturday evening might be tough. I tried rush last week for the Friday matinee on TodayTix. I hit the button at 10am sharp and was told, all tickets were already claimed. I kept hitting the button again and again for maybe two minutes until I finally got offered a ticket in the royal circle. So be quick and don’t give up if it tells you that no tickets are available at the moment. Try until it really says sold out. But hopefully you’ll be successful before that.

What’s wrong with people always opening their sweets during the quietest parts of the show? I had someone eating Cadbury buttons at Moulin Rouge. That show is so incredibly loud but she always decided to eat and rustle the bag during speaking parts or other quiet moments. The next day I saw Good and the couple behind me bought a bag of sweets during the interval. As the first act was extremely quiet I assumed they would put them away once the second act began. I was wrong. They were sitting in the second row, clearly visible from the stage and I’m sure the whole theatre could hear them. Unbelievable…

Thank you sophie92 ! I’ve also signed up for the dayseats but I guess that chances of winning any aren’t that high. I have done standing room before and I would be fine with this if it’s the last option. But I’ll definitely keep an eye on the ticket site then to see if anything drops in price!

Is there a way to get cheaper tickets for this closer to the day? My friend and I are going to London in November and would love to see this. However, the “cheapest” seats that are next to each other on that day are 145£ each which is definitely too much. Do tickets get cheaper as the date gets closer or do they sell them cheaper at the box office, if we ask them nicely? Or is it really just “pay an insane amount of money or miss out” with this show?

I can't help but wonder if the waiters are trained to sing that well then why are they wasting their time waiting tables? Oh wait, I think I know. Well a lot of trained actors wait tables when they don’t have theatre jobs. In the way of a diner like that they can showcase their talent while earning money for the rent. At Ellen’s they always had a „wall of fame“ of people who worked there and then got hired for Broadway shows…

I remember the day Terry Pratchett died. I got a text while I was driving home. I cried in the car the whole time. I grew up with his books and I still love every single one of them. I even was fortunate enough to meet him once and have a brief chat. It was kind of like losing my story telling granddad. He was the only „celebrity“ I ever cried about tho…

I’ve been lucky at those Ticket booths on Leicester Square before. If you ask nicely they might give you one of theirs. That’s how I got a Priscilla poster after the show closed.
A friend of mine once contacted someone from the tube (I don’t remember who exactly, sorry) and managed to get one of those Ghost posters with Cassie and Richard on them that were not sold at the theatre.
Maybe you could try this as well.

There is a lot of vaccine refusal in Germany and Austria. Too much here of course but I think the jabs making a difference here. Well, fingers crossed…eh? Vaccination rate in Germany is 67,7% and 68,5% in the UK. 0,7% isn’t that much of a difference… Austrias is 64,8%…

Reports of one region in Austria going to lockdown for the unvaccinated population. Very interesting How on earth are they going to enforce this? Is the police going around town, randomly checking people on the street for their vaccination certificates? Who has time for this? I was in a traffic accident not so long ago. I called the police. It took them more than an hour to come. So this isn’t Austria but I can’t imagine they have the personnel to do this. Today our current health minister introduced a new rule called 2G+ for events. With that only vaccinated people and those who’ve had Covid are allowed to participate but only if they bring a negative test. Unvaccinated aren’t allowed at all. So… why not? Is a negative test from an unvaccinated person less worth than that of someone who’s had the shot? This is really getting ridiculous now. (And also just today a politician encouraged people to not interact with unvaccinated people anymore… You know, we’ve been at this point before in our history. I can’t shake my head enough at this country. I really can’t…)

Yes, vaccine passports have been such a roaring success in mainland Europe. Numbers aren't soaring, workers aren't on strike and there hasn't been a single demonstration. That's the way to go. Yup. Over here in Germany they always said vaccines weren’t mandatory. However the government did everything to enforce it on people. First they made everyone pay for Covid tests again which had been free until then. They hoped that people would rather get vaccinated than pay for regular tests. That didn’t work at all. And the number of tests went down as well. So now they made them free again but from Monday on almost everything except for work and grocery stores will only be allowed for vaccinated people or previously infected. I doubt that this will make people get the shot. The more pressure is applied the more they shut down and refuse the vaccine. We’ve got close to 70% of the population vaccinated and right now our infection numbers are the highest ever in this pandemic. They are even talking about lockdown again. This is going to be an interesting winter…

Well I hope so. If you click on the “find out more” link you have to scroll almost to the bottom of the page to find it and it’s filed under “How to quarantine if you are not fully vaccinated”. So that would make sense. But on the main page it’s displayed far more dominantly and looks like it’s a rule for everyone, just like the special requirements for France…

Guys can you help me understand something here? I’ve just been checking out the new rules on the gov uk site and there’s the passage that has been discussed here already:
Then there are special rules for France and then there’s this:
I almost never stay for more than 10 days. So does this rule apply to me, even if I’m fully vaccinated in the EU?
This is basically a travel ban for short trips isn’t it? And what sense does it make? Wouldn’t it be easier to say you can’t travel to England for less than ten days at all? I mean who would come anyway to spend the whole time in quarantine and then go back home? I was getting hopeful to go back soon with the new rules but now that bubble is close to bursting again… -.-

However, I'm starting to feel so unwelcome now between Germany not being moved to the Green List and the complete dismissal of the EU vaccination app at the border and apparently also at some theatre chains, I just don't know anymore if I WANT to come. I absolutely agree with this. It breaks my heart but it makes me so mad at the same time. It’s so frustrating that European vaccines are not recognised and that we’re still on the amber list. I really, really want to go back because I miss London dearly but I also feel very unwelcome right now. I’ve been double jabbed for a while and I hoped that this would help in getting back but I doubt I’ll be able to go for the foreseeable future. -.-

Will Swenson for me. I saw him every summer when I went to see shows on Broadway. Priscilla, Les Mis, Murder Ballad, Waitress. When I saw him in The Greatest Showman I was like “Oh hi Will, old friend!” … 😆

Only two for me. Snails and oysters... Blergh. There are other things I hate that aren’t on the list but I’m actually quite surprised I’m not as picky as I thought I was.

I bought a piano and I started learning Spanish. Both things are going really well as I have time to practice every day. And the occupation helps to keep me sane.

So, I appear to have answered all of the questions/have all my seats filled but only have 483/484 tickets. Is there a secret one hidden somewhere? No, there are definitely 484 regular tickets. No hidden ones. You must be missing one.

I was also rebooked for May. Although I can make the date I’m really not thrilled by the seats I’ve been assigned. I think £65 for row T in the stalls at the very side with restricted view is pretty steep. My seats at the Playhouse were also restricted but I’ve sat there before and knew it was ok and it was worth the price. Now I’m not so sure....

The app requires a specific feature in the operating system, and while Google backported it to Android 6 (released in 2015) Apple only applied it to iOS 13 (released 2019). I guess Apple expect you to bin your iPhone after a year. That is so very untrue. While iOS 13 was released in 2019 it is supported on all phones from the iPhone 6s and onwards. The iPhone 6s was released in 2015 so I don’t see a reason why Apple should be “worse” than Google here or to blame for anything... Edit: Oh, I see that n1david beat me to it. Sorry. ^^

I watched this tonight and thought it was beautiful. Excellent streaming service as well, high definition all the way (absolutely no comparison to the bad quality I got from the Old Vic zooms...).
I had not heard of this before but I checked and there really is a cast recording from 2016. It’s on iTunes. Hadley is on it as well but the female part is sung by Caroline Sheen. I have to admit I liked Rosalies voice a lot better.
Since I haven’t seen the original version I cannot compare but this one now is not staged. It’s a reading with songs. They did it very cleverly so that you could easily follow the time jumps though.
I would love to watch it again tomorrow but unfortunately I’ve got no time as I’ve got visitors. I really enjoyed this tonight!

It is nice to know that these problems exist in other countries because there’s a tendency to believe that it’s only the U.K. government who mess up. Oh you can be sure of that. There have been so many reports of outbreaks that couldn’t be traced because people gave out false names. No one really checks. And there were reports that the police used those lists for crime investigations so I guess a lot more people said „f** you“ to that afterwards. I arrived back in Berlin last week on Monday night via plane. The testing station had closed by then so I called my GP in the morning. Was told free testing had ended the night before and a test would be 180€. So your friend actually got a bargain there... Welcome to Germany indeed...

It’s funny to read all this stuff about the App. It’s like the situation in Germany all over again, three months later...
They told us 60% of people needed to install the app, only 20% did. Turns out it was only working with the latest iOS and Android software, shutting many people out. It was glitchy and didn’t synchronise the data as it was supposed to. Now, three month after its launch data shows that not even 5% off all Corona cases during that period were registered in the app...
So I don’t know if your software developers did a much better job then ours (I bet ours were more expensive in any way...) but I wouldn’t put too much hope into an app like this...

That lead is NOT my idea of Aladdin at all. Aladadin Haha, that response is gold! I saw the OC on Broadway and remember looking at the pictures in front of the theatre and wondering how the could hire such an old (looking?) guy to play Aladdin. Fortunately we had cheap seats and were so far in the back of the theatre that we hardly noticed during the show. ^^ With closeups and 4K picture this is going to look very strange though...

lightinthedarkness I‘ve booked the same seat. According to theatremonkeys page it’s right behind a pillar and marked red. But since there will be no other patrons next to me due to social distancing I hope to be able to lean to the side enough to look around it. It was an impulse booking and I have no idea if I can really go so I chose the cheapest option. I’ve only seem the show from the front row before so I think I can live with one bad seat... 😉

How when presale isn’t until Wednesday? I got an email with a priority booking link this morning because I had several tickets cancelled before. Just booked myself a ticket for November. Honestly I have no idea if I’ll be able to attend but I just had to risk it. I hope everything works out because I can’t wait to see this again!

I‘m with abby and Poster J on this. At the moment there is no light at the end of the tunnel. We cannot go on like this forever.
Over here in Germany death numbers are relatively low and I’m glad they are. But the economy has taken a bad blow and now a lot of companies are starting to lay off staff. Just today Lufthansa announced to reduce thousands of work places. And they got a huge government funding.
Where I live, schools are opening up next week. My parents are teachers. They have not heard a single thing about concepts or safety precautions yet. They simply don’t know how things are going to work next week. Someone from the ministry of education declared that they were expecting schools to close again in the near future. My sister has small children. She is devastated because she cannot longer manage working full time and caring for the children the whole day. She has been doing this since early April.
And don’t even get me started on the tracking apps. Apparently we have the greatest app in the world (haha... -.-) and after weeks they noticed that it wasn’t working. Now users are advised to open the app every day after exactly 24 hours and one minute to synchronise the data... They’ve got to be kidding...
Nobody seems to have a plan. Even if there will be a vaccine it will take month to produce and distribute evenly. I don’t see any hope that 2021 will be any better than 2020 and that is damn scary to be honest...

When I'm in London I pay by cash only to avoid transaction fees with a foreign card. Not realistic to pay 3 pounds in Tesco with a card, fees would be much higher than that. What kind of card do you use? I mostly use American Express and their transaction fees are just a couple of cents. Not really noticeable...

Could I ask another question - is Germany still quite cash focused or has Covid made card payments more popular? I've always found that Germany tends to have a cash-first approach to payment, certainly in pubs, cafes, etc. Wondered whether I still need to think about having a decent amount of cash with me or just to keep topping up my Revolut card. This has gotten A LOT better lately due to Corona. Of course it depends where you are going but in the big cities you will have no troubles going almost completely cashless now. I never carry more than 10 or 20€ in cash for when I need to get something from the bakery or a kebab or something like that. I almost always use Apple Pay or my contactless bank card if AP isn’t accepted.
