Canadian version is out there too, gonna watch it next week. They’ve ditched the trophy room for the new UK season, you’ll earn the badge in the tasks instead. I binged Traitors Canada over the weekend. Just started on NZ. Where do you watch them?

The lottery does have stalls tickets but they tend to go within a couple of minutes. The fans of this one are very on the ball with the lottery and ready to grab seats as soon as they get a link. The tickets in the top level tend to stick around a lot longer but are pretty uncomfortable if you're above average height. Quite annoying that the fan base, who go multiple times a week, are most likely taking all the good seats, stopping others who have probably never seen the show before from getting a good deal. Guess it depends how you look at it, the fans are probably the ones who have helped spread the good word of mouth that keeps it extending. There's nothing to stop anyone else entering the lottery and getting those seats, it's randomly selected, but I guess they are just particularly organised.

Part of the application process was proposing one, perhaps, two seasons of work - so whatever she intends to do, the board of the theatre obviously agree. It's not like she's going to turn up on Day 1 and surprise everyone with some radical programming that nobody agrees with.

Can anyone share memories of the golden days of this club beneath the Phoenix Theatre, originally known (I vaguely recall) as Shuttleworths? It seems to operate as a full time performance space nowadays...I remember being able to stroll in and enjoy the slightly madcap atmosphere with a cheap G&T!

In previous years they've sometimes done offers for the few January performances, do we think that is likely this time around?

This is obviously a PR gimmick. You could easily see every show in London for far less than that. There are also restrictions on the number of shows you can see and when. If you're rich enough to afford this, you don't need to be using TodayTix to get your tickets.

Hope it's ok to post here as it's short notice but on the noticeboard I've posted one stalls ticket for tonight at the lottery price (£25) if anyone wants to see it for cheap!

I have to say, I don't think they intended to make this production funny. There was nothing deliberate in the design or direction that was trying to make it panto-like - nobody was winking at the audience or anything like that. The writing/material, the frankly bad acting (from some not all cast members) and the Noises Off style tech did that job. I'm afraid this show is cursed, and I don't think it would be possible to do a version that would be taken seriously.
I think some of the screaming was also related to Kerry Ellis herself - it was definitely reminiscent of the early Wicked fandom days.

Jeanna de Waal (Broadway Diana) was in the audience tonight. What must she think

If they nailed the tone, the sh*t tech ruined it. The theatre gods giveth and they taketh away. Which, along with the high prices, is the reason I didn’t go. I’ve been burned so many times before with these concerts, the sound/tech/under-rehearsal issues ruin my enjoyment. Did they do the ****ity ****ity **** song? Yes!! No Barbra Cartland though. Or the immortal line 'Harry, my ginger haired son' (unless it was one of the 3000 times the mic wasn't turned up)

Sounds like they’ve placed this production perfectly - plenty of laughter, ridiculousness and being “in on the joke”. My comments on the previous page based on the Broadway proshot version seem to line up with the consensus here. I sort of wish I had gone tonight - I love a good, crap night out at the theatre. I bet this was glorious in its terribleness. If they nailed the tone, the sh*t tech ruined it. The theatre gods giveth and they taketh away.

Why am I constantly surprised by how terrible these things are. At least this one was funny, basically an enormous accidental panto. If the royal family want to do some more research on public opinion about them, hopefully someone will send them a bootleg of the audience reaction every time one of their fictional counterparts walked on stage!

Quite enjoyed this but felt like it was maybe just 10 mins too long - people were starting to shuffle and a I spotted a few people nodding off. I counted 3x couples who left in the first half or so (making quite a racket in the middle of quiet scenes).
Mysteriously a large bit of black fabric fell from above the stage in the middle of one scene. It was one of the night scenes so it wasn't very obvious but it wasn't mentioned and at some point someone grabbed it and took it off with them. I assume this wasn't intended?!

I consider myself a light Sondheim fan - I have a good knowledge of his shows and would go and see a full production of most. But for some reason I've been really put off by the clips I've seen of this show. I think I have a real aversion to actors being 'actory' which is hard to explain... But maybe that gives one perspective why someone might not want to go and see this.

I remember reading an interview with Judy Cramer which mentioned the lyrics in Mamma Mia. Apparently she was given permission to use the songs on the condition she didn't change any lyrics, so she got in various states of distress trying to make them fit the story, then in one rehearsal Benny suggested a change and she said 'But you told me I couldn't change anything!'
'Yes, but I can!' he replied.

A friend in the crew mentioned their first run through was 4 hours long... I was eagerly waiting to see if it would come down before the first preview! Presumably it will tighten up a bit once they are on stage...

Sounds like a mixture of accents being used. Wonder if they will do that in the show or if they just used their own accents for this event.

Just to note that adding the ethnicity/country of origin of a badly-behaved audience member isn't really necessary and tends to just add to stereotypes.
