What’s the circle like in the Arts Theatre? Just nabbed a few of the GILT tickets for next weekend while I’m down for Hamilton but the choice was either Row E in the Circle or Row M in the Stalls, both red on the Monkey’s site. Went with the Circle in the end.
Are all of Mischief on each night? Seeing the core Mischief cast was one of our main reasons for booking.

Just had a quick glance at the Metro Radio Arena’s tagged posts on Instagram and it does look like quite a grand production actually, including catwalk and lasers for the Megamix.
I know people have said that offers were on Groupon etc, but if this has turned a profit then it wouldn’t surprise me to see BK wheel out a ‘Joseph: The Arena Spectacular’ tour with a bigger star than Joe at the helm.

The rush for merch really puzzles me. It’s a popular show and surely they knew it was going to be busy for merchandise. But why haven’t they rushed to get extra merchandise stands in place?! The queues must be putting people off/making people lose out. A few extra stands across the theatre (some might hate this suggestion but even selling smaller items like mugs, shot glasses, keyrings from the same place as ice cream at interval) would do the world of good.

I bet it’ll be an impressive cast to sell the first 6mths (1 celeb/1 musical theatre star as Roxy/Velma, a Spice Girl as Mama Morton) and will then get another bankable star for the second 6mths. It’ll limp to 2yrs with a few cast changes.

Anyone know what the view is like from front row of the Stalls - is the stage high? I was Row D, and this was my view: How was your view in general? I’m Row C and starting to get a bit concerned with stage height!

A new one for me tonight.
Someone sitting behind me was wearing a light up Christmas jumper which changed colour every few seconds. Every time it changed colour, the flash hit the lens of my glasses so it felt like someone behind me was taking a photo with a flash on. By the end of the show, my head was ready to explode and I had a bright light spot in the corner of my eye which still hasn’t subsided.

Original Monster set to leave THIS Saturday! I’m sure there was an interview with Brooks around opening when he said that he’d paid for Hadley Fraser to come over and for his London apartment during his stint. Sounds like he wasn’t happy and has decided to drop out the production. Surely he wouldn’t have been contracted for just 6wks?!

Do we think the show will start going down the stunt casting route in the West End? It’s obviously worked pretty well on Broadway but it could be a way to rejuvenate London audiences too.

I don’t think Cameron would cancel more shows. It would be an absolute PR nightmare. I think he’s more likely to open the show in a different theatre and then move it in to the Victoria Palace once it’s ready.
The only issue with that would be if there actually is an available theatre...

This must be the best set of reviews a new West End show has got for a while?!

Press night tonight. I’d expect strong reviews but can’t help but think a few critics might not like it. Word of mouth should be good though.

I didn't notice the costume falling apart of the missed one? Where was that? The light is a gag - he's a blind man....yes the show stopped briefly with that cloth Show just gets better - loved it. As did the audience. I think the Garrick has a whopping hit here One of Elizabeth’s earring fell apart as she walked to the front of the stage for Surprise One of the ensemble was on stage as a villager after Puttin on the Ritz but still had their tails and green make up on.

Brilliant show tonight but a few hitches I wouldn’t expect the night before Press Night, including a curtain change which got stuck on a piece of scenery and stopped the show for a few minutes. Other things included a costume falling apart, a costume change not happening in time and a lighting cue being missed but shining on the opposite side of the stage (but that might’ve been a joke I missed). Overall though, an amazing show which I suspect will run for a long time if they can recast correctly.
Will post a full report tomorrow.

Bit of a weird one here but here goes...
My friend and I have ended up with a spare evening in London next week with no plans (thanks to Lady Gaga postponing her tour). My friend has decided that she wants to see Kinky Boots but we’re on a bit of a budget (especially considering we’re trains/hotels out of pocket for a cancelled concert). I suggested the TodayTix app but what’s the deal with the lottery? How late in the day do you find out? What is the likelihood of winning? If you don’t win, is it too late in the day to get tickets for another show? Is it possible you’ll get a cheaper ticket through the app in the run up to the show?
Sorry for the questions, it’s been on my mind for a few days!

Just been to tonight's show, we had Marisha on as Effie. I was pretty disappointed when I saw her name on the board as Amber was one of my big reasons for booking (and TodayTix hasn't updated their site to reflect the new three-way lead arrangement, still says Amber is performing 7 shows out of 8 and not doing Monday nights). There was a clear sense of disappointment in the audience too. A lady in front of me at the bar almost burst into tears when she saw the sign, this was her 5th attempt at trying to see Amber. A ripple of noise flowed through the audience when Effie first appeared on stage too and it was clear people were shocked not to see Amber.
Marisha absolutely stormed it and won over any doubters in seconds but the producers do have an issue on their hands in that this show has been advertised heavily using Amber's name and personality. If she's now only going to be doing a handful of shows a week, there will be palpable disappointment among audiences night after night and that's just not fair on Marisha or Karen.
Of my 5 close friends who have seen the show over the last few months, not a single one of us has seen Amber. Proud to be a member of the 'I went to see Dreamgirls and Amber wasn't on but the show was still bloody incredible' club.

After following this thread on the old forum and now here for so many years, I finally have a contribution to this thread. I'm just disappointed it's so lacklustre.
Fresh from Wimbledon duties, Andrew Castle was at Dreamgirls tonight with his Mrs.

Dare I ask... what happens if they don't finish the theatre refurb on time?... I suspect the major interior works will be complete any day now (if they aren't already), allowing decoration to start taking place. Even if that (or the external work) overruns, the show can still load in, Previews can take place etc.

My money is on Lin for the first 3mths (with his alternate making their West End debut) with the alternate taking over on Lin's departure.

Not quite a theatre show but I went to see Take That last week (don't worry, I'm not one of those Barlow fans camped outside the Phoenix waiting for him to appear at The Girls) and I was dancing and having a good time as one does in the standing area of a concert when I spotted a bright light out the corner of my eye. Someone was videoing me dancing. I pointed at them and they stopped. A slightly inebriated woman stumbled over and went "your dancing is so bad I just wanted all my friends to see it too" and cackled. But in doing so, made me feel extremely self concious and quite uncomfortable. I actually stopped dancing for a few songs and then convinced my friends to move further back from the stage so I could enjoy myself again.
Man dances at concert shocker. Why would you make somebody feel like that just for a cheap laugh on Facebook?

I loathe any kind of disruption. On the other hand, it is a testament to the fine work on stage that people want to join in. There is obviously a market for people to "get involved" (or just be self-centred!) who are a very small but very loud and disruptive minority. Perhaps on one day a month, the performances of musicals that attract parties, hens nights, families, older folk on an outing etc could run performances in which the house lights are on and people can sing Can You Feel The Love Tonight or get up and have a boogie during the upbeat numbers or propose marriage during All I Ask Of You. A Sing-A-Long SOUND OF MUSIC vibe or that of an Andre Rieu show, with costume prizes and themed cocktails and cupcakes with proceeds going to charity. And it could be advertised in such a way as to further emphasise that this sort of behaviour is not kosher at any other performance. And people like me who like to hear a pin drop... can. Les Mis almost did exactly that. But then it turned out to be an April Fool. www.whatsonstage.com/london-theatre/news/les-mis-sing-a-long-performance_37450.html

I'm assuming they'll bring the stage forward and only have the back half/third of the arena open, reducing its size to a more manageable 4,000 or so. Still quite a stretch to sell out per performance but maybe manageable over Christmas?
I expect the Metro Radio Arena are trying this out to show it can work and then get a Mamma Mia or We Will Rock You style show in for next Christmas.

Are there any rumours as to who is going to play Hamilton himself? I can't wait to see this. Just one more year... I was just wondering about this today. Lin is back in the UK this week, filming Mary Poppins, so I just wonder if they'll coordinate any big starring role announcements whilst he's in the country to do a bit of pre-publicity - perhaps in conjunction with them releasing another batch of tickets? It just depends how they plan to 'pace' the publicity of this show - there's still nearly 9 months until the show opens in previews, so they probably won't want to waste publicity time until they have reason to push the show - not that ticket sales need help, but media interest keeps it in the 'hot' category. BTW, I keep fixating on Riz Ahmed as Hamilton - I can't shake the feeling that, apart from the visual similarities between him and Lin, plus his previous involvement in the Mix Tapes, he's almost perfect vocally for the role, given his rapping ability. There is a bit of a dearth of suitable British musical theatre actors who really could do this role, and he's on a very short list of those I think could. I think they're waiting for Lin to confirm his availability before casting anything. Hamilton is obviously extremely close to him and, if he's spending the year in London working with Disney, I don't think he'll pass up the opportunity to stay on an extra few months to originate the role over here too. Might only be for 3mths or so, but I think he's a lot more likely to do that than just pop up for a limited run at some other point as others have suggested.

We're talking about spoilers? People do realise that the FIRST SONG in this show tells of the fate of each of the main characters?
