I would so love for Louise to be back on tour/west end in a show. She’s phenomenal in everything I’ve seen her.

Would seem they are wanting to get name for the child catcher..leaving it a bit late to announce it. Let’s hope it’s someone with the capability to give a good performance.

How awful ladidah which seat were you in? Z27. I'm going to put a review on seatplan to warn others. Was the issue the auditorium wasn’t raked?

Do you find the general trend is shows/casting being announced with less notice that about 5 years ago?

Do we think theatres should do more to ensure audience members (who wish to know) are better informed of which cast they see?

The headline looks pertinent, I can’t read it though as I’m not a subscriber 😂. What’s the summary?

Parsifal is by some way the No 1 on my desire list. I feel I will have to be patient, because I can't see it happening until after the new Ring is fully in place? Tosca was in this season, surely a break before a new production? Surprise from left field would be La Ciociara. Revised and given at last years Wexford Festival. Should be better known. I agree, Parsifal won’t be done until at least 2027?! Oh there’s lots of left field wishes…I think it will be a conservative season to try and save money.

A new Tosca production would be amazing, provided it is period. I’ve always hated the current one.
Would love to see Bernheim as Hoffman.
Oh yes, a Handel opera would be good. Maybe a time for Joyce DiDonato to return?
Speaking of returning, Cecilia Bartoli would be amazing. It’s only been about 18 years since she was last there.

I have to say it’s been a long time since Parsifal was performed, but highly unlikely I’d say for this season ☹️

If I were a performer I’d also feel a bit upset that I wasn’t recognised if I had covered a certain role.

I’m not a ballet expert at all, but surely it’s time for a revival of La Fille mal Gardee 🐓

It's good that Bart has a much better record at doing musicals than opera, given some of the bores (in my opinion anyway) he has produced at The Met.

One of the complaints I read about West End Theatres is the foyers are cramped. Let's choose His Majesty's Theatre for an example. The foyer is rather small, yet all ticket holders use this as their entrance. The reason is that when the theatre was first built, this was not the case. There were separate entrances for each level of the theatre, thereby ensuring the different types of audience didn't mix. Many West End venues are like this.
Also interesting about His Majesty's Theatre is the Balcony (the highest level) is not placed above the Upper Circle (the level below) like in many theatres, but rather it is above and totally behind in an alcove. Can you think of any other venues you have seen this? I can't off the top of my head.

Hopefully this fits into the topic and is deemed to be acceptable.
Do actors receive sick pay if they are not able to perform (either the odd performance or slightly longer term)?

Judging by the timing of last year's announcement, we are about 1 month away from an official announcement.
In the meantime, have you heard anything about what may be in the season? Or any guesses/rumours?
I anticipate La Traviata will be in the first period as it's 30 years since the production was new. Obviously Die Walkure will continue the Ring Cycle, but it will be interesting to see who will be Brunnhilde, Siegmund and Sieglinde especially. I also feel Les Contes D'Hoffmann will make an appearance in a new production.

Thank you for setting up this topic fiyero as I share your view totally! I feel it is very disrespectful if the theatre does not announce who is performing, unless they are the main cast...regardless of what the show is. As for front of house staff not knowing either, that is totally inexcusable. Cast screens should be in every venue and an announcement also made before the performance starts. For me, cast is very important and I appreciate how different people can add to a role. It's the variety I greatly enjoy (and very much a big part of opera as well). Sadly, some audience members don't seem to care and it adds to a wider topic of why people see shows. Some people will just want to see the show and won't know or care to know who they see. Others, like me, want to appreciate each performer. In respect of BurlyBeaR's comments, absolutely agree. This should not be an opportunity to spread negativity but embrace the diversity of theatre. Out of interest in a longer runnnig west end musical (6 months or more), what are the chances of seeing all the main cast on? I'm convinced the changes are very low given holidays and sickness...intrigued to see if others know more.

Have they pulled the remaining Sunday shows? Finton is tonight, excellent as usual. The row behind me has two different sets of annoying people who can’t stop talking. Try the death stare! 😂. Finton is excellent, I hope you enjoy the show despite the cabaret in the row behind. When was the last time Ivano performed?

Any substantial rumours for Theatre Royal Drury Lane yet? It'll be empty in late September. I was wondering that too. Are there any broadway shows that may transfer?

If anyone is interested, I noticed this clip online. It features Elliot Evans as Marty and Stephen Leask as Doc. It’s great to see them in the roles. Starts about 5:22 into the clip.

Going much less & waiting till I'm sure there won't be a train strike on that day. That’s a good point, the ticket prices don’t reflect those who want to wait until they know what the travel arrangements are like. In my case, I like to wait until I know what the weather will be like.

Couldnt actually stand up in the gents at the Fortune. It was like being in a plane! I have to say the worst offender for me is the Victoria Palace - after the renovation it looks absolutely stunning, but was a massively missed opportunity for comfort. Legroom in the stalls was impossibly tight. After experiencing the generosity of the space in the Prince Of Wales after refurbishment I had hoped for something similar. I appreciate its a balance between number of seats / comfort / revenue but this could have been the Rolls Royce of theatres in London but once you get past the decoration it is sadly lacking. I find this harder to forgive than the theatres which haven't (yet) had money spent on them. Surprisingly for a Frank Matcham theatre, I’ve always disliked the Victoria Palace from an architectural perspective as well as comfort. I totally agree.

There were tix available for the Dorian whatsername play and I would have liked to see it. But clicking on every date and performance the tix were too expensive. So I didn’t book. Sitting behind a screen which was a cheaper option isn’t my idea of going to the theatre. So yes the tix prices have affected my choices. I’m not looking at West End now when we used to go regularly. I’ve done the same. I tend to buy tickets close to the date and often feel like these ticketing systems are biased against me. Does dynamic pricing work the opposite way? Seats getting cheaper if the show is not selling too well? Maybe wishful thinking! Also, if the tickets are silly prices…does it matter to the producers if it’s not sold out, but they’ve made profit?

I suppose this invites an interesting question. Could you argue that the opinion from those who have paid for tickets is of greater worth as they have no obligations?

Salisbury Playhouse has comfortable seating and legroom and there's not a bad view anywhere Agreed, it’s a shame the theatre is so very patchy with their productions.
