Has anyone been able to get on the website this morning? I have, but not until about 9:50. It wouldn't work on my computer so had to book using my poxy phone instead. Ralph seems to be breaking their site, god help us when Hamlet goes on sale.

Booked a £15 for this. Going with my friend who isn't much of a theatregoer. She's going for Kit Harington's bum and I'm going to hear Jenna Russell sing Bat Out of Hell, so we'll both get at least something out of it.
Also flicking through my theatre book, turns out I saw Harington on a school trip to War Horse yonks ago - always nice to see someone before they become big.

What a bargain those £10 seats are, and because I booked for Cymbeline, Lear and Alchemist they all reduced to £8 each. Thanks for another tip off, this board really is invaluable to a thrifty theatregoer.

This one, in a year of big losses, has really got to me. My mum is/was a big fan, and I grew up with repeats of Dinnerladies and As Seen On TV on UK Gold as it was then. Seemed like a lovely lady in real life as well, proven by her often working with a same group of people. I also really respect her for not always giving herself the best characters (Mrs Overall, the Two Soups lady, etc) even though she created them.
A couple of choice lines:
"I once went to one of those parties where everyone throws their car keys into the middle of the room. I don’t know who got my moped but I've been driving that Peugeot for years."
"I know I've got a degree. Why does that mean I have to spend my life with intellectuals? I've got a lifesaving certificate but I don't spend my evenings diving for a rubber brick with my pyjamas on."
And of course the whole of Barry and Freda.

Busy week for me as well: Show Boat on Saturday, Of Mice and Men (in Brighton) on Tuesday followed by an intense double bill of Bug and People, Places and Things on Wednesday and capping off my week by schlepping over to Chichester for An Enemy of the People on Friday.

Soho Theatre May 14 - June 18, according to Mark Shenton. Trying for a double bill with this as a matinee ahead of The View from Islington North.... Thanks for the heads up, filled a spare Tuesday evening slot with something I wanted to see, and ticks off a new theatre for me. Not sure why tickets are £15 for 'Under 25s' and £10 for 'Under 26s' though.

Tonight's performance has been cancelled as Javone Prince has laryngitis. Considering I hadn't remembered that I'd booked for tonight this actually works in my favour.

For me it has to be 'Castle on a Cloud' from Les Mis. Anything with whiny kids always grates with me. Ah great, now that's in my head - at least it's only about 90 seconds long so doesn't affect the show too much. One that stands out from stuff I'm seen recently, 'Sadie, Sadie, Married Lady' from Funny Girl is beyond terrible.

Would LOVE to know what he was thinking when watching Wonderland tonight as well. Regardless, I keep remembering moments (that write up, Squire Sullen, is so complete I envy your memory, but more importantly is a lovely and superb piece of writing), questions he answered, lines he said, and just smiling; the man’s an indisputable genius with a brain the size of a planet and an encyclopaedic knowledge and great human understanding of musical theatre, and having him, even just for 45 minutes, telling even a fragment of what he knows, even a fragment of what he’s written, was wonderful. Last year I had the privilege of seeing Peter Brook in conversation, and it’s a worthy comparison – two genii in their golden years who’ve lost nothing of their youthful passion for their medium but gained a lifetime of insight they’re able to share at the drop of a hat. I really am a lucky bugger, we all are. Thank you Nicholas, your posts (like the one above) are always brilliant so that means a lot coming from you. You are so right, we really are lucky, I spent much of yesterday evening just beaming. And on the misty walk home from the station I listened to Send in the Clowns and Losing My Mind and I remembered all over again what this great man is capable of - complete genius.

Thanks, Snciole - I haven't made a note of any reference numbers, I'm a bit dubious about keeping on with bookings and then suddenly getting half a dozen confirmation emails (and a massive bill). I'd like to see this but I don't want to pay £95 or be sat right in the back of the balcony (or standing either) - I'll look at ATG's site on Monday (although if I go to Brighton, it's the August bank holiday weekend so hotel prices will be at a premium) Just had a look at the Saturday matinee in Brighton for you, hasn't sold much to ATG priority members because of the high prices I assume. Nearly all stalls £60, except for front row, back rows and sides at £50 and £45 behind the pillars. Same story in the circle, upper circle pretty much all £50, gallery all £35 and £25. I'm sure it will sell better nearer the time, and it'll be nice to have the Theatre Royal full for a change, but silly prices for a regional venue.

Booked.
Only took half an hour. repeated error messages like the one posted above, making a new account and a fair bit of foul language on my part - but have one of the £10 side seats so relieved, although considering heading to The Understudy for a drink to calm my nerves..

Thought I'd begin a thread on this seeing as the show has now started in Leicester with Pixie Lott as Holly Golightly. Also it's been announced that Verity Rushworth has had to withdraw from the production as she is pregnant and expecting this summer (congrats for her!), meaning Emily Atak will take over in her tour dates. She tweeted that the venues she was meant to perform at are offering refunds for those who wanted to see her. People booked this just to see Verity Rushworth?

Seeing this in a few minutes The perfect Mothers Day play! Shame that Cleansed isn't playing on Mothers Day to cater for the more discriminating mothers. I went a screening of Psycho yesterday if that's any consolation.

I don't really have much of theatre memorabilia collection to be honest, just many programmmes and playtexts (I guess I could grab my Stoppard-signed copy of The Hard Problem). So I'd probably go for my big purple photo album, as it has all the tickets from the shows I've seen and a handwritten cast list for each. I regularly flick through it every time I update it, jogging my memory of a particular performance or a first time at a venue.

I feel like Amanda Lawrence should have been eligible, 'cos Roger Allam won for Falstaff at the Globe. But I guess if the awards are looking to publicise shows and sell tickets, then people are going to want to see the actress who won the award rather than the one who played it last summer and has moved on. If I remember rightly Nell Gwynn only played a dozen or so performances at the Globe? Therefore it wouldn't have been eligible in any category for its run there.

I've had a bit of a theatre break and filled the gap with films so hope it's alright to discuss them on a theatre board! Anyone staying up to the watch the overlong, whitewashed ceremony like myself? Looks like Thw Revenant will likely sweep the major categories and the Internet will go berserk when DiCaprio finally takes home the trophy. Personally I'd like to see Spotlight nab Best Picture instead. Saying that, my choice would be Room - but sadly that isn't going to happen. This year I finally managed to watch all the Best Film nominees before the ceremony (which meant an intense afternoon watching Sootlight and Mad Max on Friday) and I've ranked them in order of preference with my thoughts on each if anyone fancies a read: squiresullen.wordpress.com/2016/02/27/and-the-oscar-goes-to-my-thoughts-on-the-2015-best-picture-race/

All works for me, predicting a bit of a scrum for Angels. Tempted to see Chekhov Trilogy again as it has added Geoffrey Streatfield as Ivanov and in The Seagull this time.
Plus Ralph Fiennes as Antony. In 2018.
Oo - and Rosalie Craig in The Threepenny Opera, and a new Lucy Kirkwood. This is the most exciting theatre announcement in some time for me.

Besides "The Threepenny Opera", I remember that they had also announced "Sunset at Villa Thalia", written by Alexi Kaye Campbell and "The ploughman and the stars", written by Seán O'Casey and directed by Howard Davies. I would've thought they'd try and schedule The Plough and the Stars for Easter to fit in with the 100th Anniversary of the Easter Rising, as they're doing at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin (which I'm seeing, and will no doubt end up being ashamed of British history once again).

My bad, I haven't explained myself properly - I meant the first time the West End took a real hike in prices. The price (on a weekend) was £65! Oh I see (back in the days when £65 was a shock rather than the norm), I'll take another stab at it: The Producers?

Alf from the old forum (may it rest in peace), decided to change my name to something appropriately theatrical for the relaunch (and to match my blog that I'm trying to start up). Student in Brighton at the moment, but will be heading back to 'near London' soon sadly. Mainly see things in London, but in Brighton and Chichester too.

Seen him in three things now (The Same Deep Water As Me, Mojo and The Red Lion) and he's always been the best thing in each play by some way - so really looking forward to seeing him in The Caretaker.
