"Overboard" could work. Although probably not a big enough film to be marketable.

There was PP Arnold in Starlight Express. Petula Clarke in Sunset Boulevard.
Also I remember the double of Kid Creole and Bernie Nolan in "Oh What A Night". She sang really well. The less said about every other aspect of that show the better.
And then of course there's Marti Pellow.

I saw Grease on the independence Of The Seas this summer and it was very good for a cruise ships production which basically means it was better than any of the other in house theatre shows but still not that great. Mind you, the behaviour of the audience could fill the bad behaviour thread all by itself! The show was abridged down to 90 minutes and was sort of like a set of highlights rather than the full show.
The other in house shows were basically karaoke, and not that great. Some talented singers and dancers but bizarre ways of telling stories using contemporary ish pop hits is the way forward clearly.

The more I've seen I find that I get less excited about the prospect of seeing different shows than i used to, but still get the same buzz when I see something I really love.

Yup, agreeing with anthony here... It was cut from the Craig Revel Horwood production. It was also cut from the original UK tour back in 1990 and then the version which toured some venues in 1996. Guess which three versions I've seen....

That is exactly why I didn't end up going. I was tempted by some of the names in the cast, but I figured that a) I was not one of its target audience and b) (more importantly) the story has been done to death and it no longer interested me.
Maybe after this it will be "Calendar Girls - On Ice"

If the celebrity is up to the job then fine. Have seen many examples of those that are and those that shouldn't have been within a million miles of the stage...
I didn't see this in Leeds when it was there but I was impressed with the cast they assembled for it. Loads of my work colleagues went and unanimously raved about it - all would fall into the category of middle aged and female, not making any comment about this other than the show clearly struck a chord with them.

When I went to it in Sheffield somebody came dressed as the bit of the car the nuns remove at the end! It is a wonderfully silly night out.

I'm so pleased she has clarified this. Now is it ok not to enjoy something that has had great reviews? I don't want to take this independent thought thing too far.

I cringe when Javert sings about "garbage" in Les Mis. The Americanism doesn't sit well with the language used in the show up to that point.

"All That Matters" is one of my fave MT tracks ever. Thanks for the tip - have just listened online, fabulous. And what a wonderful performance by LMK!

Have never paid anything above standard ticket prices, which admittedly for Madge is a lot of money. Just struck really lucky I suppose -the ones for Rebel Heart in Birmingham showed up on general sale weeks after the majority of tickets went - couldn't believe it was the very tip when I got to the seat. I won a place in the triangle through the fanclub and got catwalk side seats for S and S at the O2 when unsold VIP seats were put on general sale about 3 or 4 days before the concert. So have never paid VIP / premium etc prices for any of them.

Not suprised so many people thought it was a let down, stadium pop shows are often poor unless you are up front. Beyoncé at Manchester arena was stunning though.
I suppose every time I've seen Madonna in a stadium I've been lucky to get in the gold circle so have felt very close to the action, but nothing has beaten the indoor shows- especially being in the mdna triangle and the tip of the heart for Rebel Heart (Madonna threatened to spank me for dropping her maraccas) . For this type of show where so much focus is on the performer and the dancers, you need to be up close. Saw Bruce Springsteen in Manchester city stadium a few weeks ago and he was fantastic - that really suited the space.

How long before the show do they send tickets? I'm going in a few weeks and they haven't arrived yet When I booked over the phone I was told about two weeks before.

I remember being sat with approximately 25 other people in the 1951 capacity Bristol Hippodrome for a performance of Lettuce and Lovage. Both other levels were closed, and we were spread liberally around the stalls. As a result, I think its fair to say an atmosphere of jollity was hard to create. Slightly mortifyingly, my mother fell asleep.

I would totally agree with One Day More.
I'd give my life for you from Miss Saigon.
Anthem from Chess.

On the subject of returns, just picked up a very good pair of stall seats for October by phoning Nimax. Absolutely wonderful service. Very little availability for the times I could go, but if you can be very flexible about dates you might strike lucky.

I think for me it was attending the Mamma Mia 10th anniversary night. It was a combination of things - I hawked the ticket site and box office for ages beforehand and even arranged holiday dates on the offchance , so (after some fabulous customer service from the BO team) I couldn't quite believe we were there, in prime seats. Add to that the champagne and celebrity spotting, we had a fabulous night even before the show started. As a lifelong Abba fan, a big part of wanting to go was just in case any of Abba turned up - which of course they did. I have been lucky enough to see so many megastars perform but have never been so star struck as seeing Benny and Bjorn on stage at the end. The show was on top form too, Linzi Hatley in particular was fabulous. So even though this is not my favourite show, the combination of events and circumstances made it something unforgettable.

Ok then...
I wish Id left the revival of Miss Saigon at the interval and just kept my memories of act one. The hotel scene needs a huge rewrite / scrapping for something else and "the American Dream" just gets on my nerves. The Fall of Saigon was well done though!
I enjoyed Elaine Paige as Norma Desmond far more than I enjoyed Patti Lupone.
I can't wait for Master Of The House to end in Les Mis - the comedy jars with the rest of the show. The same goes for Herods song in JCS - most productions I have seen have played this for laughs, in my opinion out of the ones I've seen for myself, only the Lyceum production got it right.

I love the adaptation of Hairspray - it just makes me smile!
I also love Evita - even the fact the Madonna really cant act doesn't ruin it!

I have a question which may have been answered on the previous forum but I can't quite remember... {Spoiler - click to view} Does Mary still fly out over the audience in the finale for this tour or does it depend on the venue? I can't quite imagine the Mayflower being able to do this...? I can only vouch for Leicester and Manchester but it happened at both of those venues.

Cats is the most pointless thing I have ever seen on a stage. I just don't get it and how it is still going, despite being so dated. Sorry Cats fans.
Totally agree!

I went past the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang stage door last night in Newcastle and there were about fifty or so teenage girls there from the Carrie Hope Fletcher fan club. All, that I could see, waiting their turn, being polite and respectful, with maybe a little squeel of delight with their friends after they had met her. It was all quite sweet! This is lovely. Very different to the highly entertaining couple of hours spent with friends and alcohol overlooking the stage door between performances when Nick Jonas was in Les Mis..: very entertaining watching how the passive aggressiveness built up as time for him to come out got closer. Then of course he didn't come out at all!

Agree the first 5 minutes are wonderful. After that, there are some fabulous moments but also some toe curlingly awful ones. For me, the moments that are more "African" and less cartoony are easily the highlights. Don't get me started on the dialogue. And that bizarre jumping action they make Simba do every other line really started to annoy me!
