I really don't get it with the constant changes in Elphaba. In the good old days the cast were pretty reliable from memory and those in leading roles did by and large do most of their shows that were scheduled. I await to be proved wrong by those who know better than me, I just know whenever I saw it I saw who was scheduled to be on in leading roles. In those days we weren't living through a global pandemic though.

Ten years is nothing.
The same shows seem to go round and round again every single year.
I really hope this does well.

Literally said a couple of days ago to someone that Laura Pick was going to come back to cover within the next couple of weeks. I think I have actual magical powers. Not really. Wicked were down to their last Elphaba cover. It was pretty obvious a previous cast member was on standby backstage. Although if you want to give us the winning lottery numbers feel free Also everyone feel free to judge Alexia at the end of her contract, but also give the girl a break. Life gets in the way sometimes, as it does for us all. If Wicked thought her anyway an unreliable performer they would not have asked her back for her third run.

I am very surprised more theatres do not offer loyalty schemes, especially those that have had the same show for a long period.
Ten visits to Wicked and you can claim an exclusive Chistery pin
A hundred visits and you get a money can't buy photo with Elphaba on stage (well, if any random B list visitor from a soap opera can then why can't a super fan?!)

Let me guess, an immersive version where the audience act as Eva's crowd?!

Is this a not-so cryptic hint that this may very well move theatres and extend?
The account is always posting tweets with that emoji. It is kind of their thing now

I kind of feel bad for Amy at this point. By now, it must be a bit embarrassing each time you call out when you only show up to work your shift 50% of the time, yeah? You have to remember that Amy has just gone into her second London contract. If the powers that be weren't happy enough with how last year went then she wouldn't be. Theatre is a demanderating mistress, after all.

The Sunderland Empire tour on selected Saturday mornings is very interesting. Depending on the production you can go into the backstage areas and see props and costumes.

It is very early in a contract for a "4th Elphaba" to have four shows under her belt already. Makes me even more mad that Jennifer Tierney and Amy Goodwin (and perhaps others too) did not even get one

What’s interesting with Alexia and Lucie is they sound 100% when they are on, they are not struggling on stage, but still feel like they can’t go on for whatever reason. Different to someone like Kerry or Idina who had good attendance mostly but sometimes sounded tired and probably suffered vocal damage. I bet the company manager is wishing there was no UK tour so they could have hired Laura Pick for London and not have to manage all this absence. Yeah but in Kerry's case she missed shows because she was doing a UK Tour of her own album at the very same time she was in Wicked.

I really do not remember that being the case at all.
Ashleigh herself was off quite a bit when she was the lead on tour if we want to carry on playing this little game...
What IS clear is that Elphaba is a very hard sing and really should have an alternative for at least a show a week.

GBNews are talking about whether lockdown has resulted in a reduction in etiquette now (Don't judge me, my parents have it on) They are fine ones to talk about reductions in etiquette! 🙃

That news article is hilarious for all the wrong reasons
"A woman has claimed three security workers 'dragged' her partner out of the Palace Theatre after he 'waved his arms' during a performance in The Bodyguard musical"
I'm sure the real story is a little different!

“Unprecedented levels of violence that asking them to stop (singing along with the show) caused” People scroll through social media feeds absent mindedly while doing other things and just read the snappy click bait headline that people were thrown out for singing. They don't read the whole story. I imagine some reading that will be going intending to sing MORE. "I've paid for my ticket and nobody is going to tell me what to do. I am enjoying myself and they're just sat there". Just sat there taking in the experience is seen as not enjoying in some people's eyes. I think it is statistically more likely that people around them won't return. I remember my one and only trip to the Thriller Live tour where a gang of very drunk women ruined the show with their constant standing up, singing, frequent loo and bar trips and spilling drinks over people around them. This culminated in a loud verbal fight with front of house staff during "Billy Jean". None of us behind could hear or see a thing. Lots walked out. However, what I have noticed that I do disagree with is the huge pile on that seems to be happening in the comments section of these news stories, where anyone innocently questions why they cannot sing along. Not everyone is in the frankly privileged position of having attended musicals before and may be completely unaware what as good "theatre etiquette" (I really hate that phrase). I think the theatre community need to politely try to explain rather than say "just don't go then". That really is not helpful.

I went last night to see the new cast for the first time and was very lucky to catch Kate. I was really impressed. She really hit those notes and put her own little touches in there too. She really worked well opposite Lucy, who I also thought was great. Such an incredibly beautiful voice. Her scenes with her two friends really made me laugh, especially them all talking about hot Fiyero was in the dancing through life scene.

I had a standing ticket booked for yesterday but was feeling very tired and thought it would be a real struggle so optimistically entered the Today Tix lottery in hope I wouldn't have to.
I got a notification shortly after 9.30 that I'd won so gave my standing ticket away and went down to the box office to pick up my ticket. I haven't read the whole of this thread so don't know if this is a regular dayseat allocation but I was shocked and also very happy to be allocated a seat in the front row of the stalls. The view was incredible and barely restricted at all.
I felt so mentally drained afterwards but also that I had witnessed something very special indeed. I thought the cast were fantastic buttery, admittedly, it was very hard to watch at times dues to the subject material.
How they manage to perform this twice a day I do not know.

From the clip it looks like the problem people were up in the Grand Tier. It’s horrifyingly steep up there. How anyone could be safely removed if they didn’t want to be I have no idea. With great difficulty it seems...

I was at the Friday matinee too. Surprised more shows don't add one as there are very few on. It was sold out.
I thoroughly enjoyed it. Definitely Come from Away vibes in there and I really love one act shows.

I am sure that is the case for some of the behaviour but I doubt the "ladies" literally screaming the lyrics out were influenced by that. More so from excessive bank holiday drinking.

It’s not clickbait by MEN, this is happening on a regular basis and someone is going to get very hurt or worse very soon, The paper have been very much going down the This Morning route of blaming the theatre for being killjoys and not letting people enjoy themselves, rather than reporting accurately on what really is happening.

I saw a video on Twitter. Someone was literally screaming "I will always love you" like they were at the pub karaoke. Awful. I feel so sorry for anyone who was sat around them.

I was there tonight and I thoroughly enjoyed it, primarily because Rachel Tucker was her usual insanely talented self. It really was a pretty magical performance.
"I can do anything better than you" with Oliver Saville was so much fun.
The supporting characters were very much underused. Not sure who the couple really were or what their story was, but symptom of a staged concert I guess.
Hearing the songs with the orchestra was a joy.
