This is very exciting, thanks for sharing the info guys! Is there any way to preserve this until after July 7? (it says on the site it will disappear from my library after that) I think the reason they're taking it down is because they have plans to give this a cinema release as well in the fall- that could be really fun seeing it on a big screen. I am glad however to have seen it, and I would imagine that after the cinema release it would go back up on the website at some point- as they can continue to make money from it there too. (Also I have a feeling someone will screen capture it and upload it to youtube as usually happens.)

I just watched the last few seconds to see whether this happened, hilarious! but that usher seemed really loud! I mean, I know the show is loud etc but it seemed like him yelling would of been more distracting than the camera!
One thing I absolutely loved in Moscow was the laser-pointer wielding usher. A girl in the row before me was fiddling with her mobile phone (don't think she was recording, just checking texts or something?) during the show and suddenly a red blast of doom hit her phone, which quickly disappeared. Yes, the laser-pointer was a bit distracting but it was a matter of seconds and definitely more effective than potential shouting or trying to get the girl's attention from the aisle. Would like to see this used in London (or anywhere really) both for people trying to illegally record something or just the phone addicts who feel it necessary to fiddle with their phones in the middle of a show. I think I read somewhere that this is a thing in Japan too apparantly? Yes i agree- it could be effective, as I imagine they see most phone users from the back, it would save the hussle of going up to the person and arguing with them.

I get annoyed if I see it in the theatre whilst im there, but yeah, I watch Bootlegs on YouTube regularly haha! Usually Broadway productions that I may not get to see (there is a now a full Broadway recording from an audience member of the Broadway production of School of Rock I am attempting to hold off watching!).
But then there is also historical productions that you may not get to see again! There is a full Bootleg video of Bernadette's Gypsy, and there was one of Patti's too, but I can't find it anymore. To name a few! This is so funny- that boot may or may not end before the finale with an usher saying in the background "Is there a camera here" and a voice going "no of course not" and cutting to black... Of course, I wouldn't know

I think that's what BroadwayHD is striving for but their selection isn't great either...

Sorry for the multiple posts but I have to add- a lot of shows and actors use illegal footage and photos for press and promotion (including many actors who openly condemn such footage, only to favorite/retweet/ use on their website's reel etc. moments later :/ ). To an embarrassing degree- you'd have to wonder what their real stance on this is, as they do also benefit from it to a certain degree.

I don't agree that the people who go looking for bootlegs are hardcore fans who've already paid. Some may be, but I know of quite a few people whose response to something being available is "Where can I get a bootleg?", and many of them are quite proud of themselves for taking without putting anything back. Some try to justify what they're doing by saying they're providing support, though it doesn't seem to occur to them that support doesn't pay the bills and if they're not spending money then in commercial terms they don't exist. Many don't even do that: they simply don't see a reason for paying for anything unless they're forced to. As far as audience recordings are concerned, I know many performers hate them because they have no say over the quality of the performance. They might be having a bad day or stumble over something, and then a performance they're not proud of gets shared all around the world. It's theft as far as I'm concerned. Same with film piracy and illegal TV downloads. If you wand to as something so badly, pay for it But sometimes there is no way to pay for it. I'm not enabling at all- it's illegal, takes away from the artist and sometimes distracts audiences. But I don't think it's the same as TV/ Film where you can pay in most countries to view something legally. Theatre is in one place in one time. sometimes the boot is of a production from 20 years ago. sometimes of a production halfway across the world. I'm in a twist about it myself- I'd be a liar if I said I never searched and viewed bootlegs before.

As far as audience recordings are concerned, I know many performers hate them because they have no say over the quality of the performance. They might be having a bad day or stumble over something, and then a performance they're not proud of gets shared all around the world. Idina Menzel has been quite vocal about how it frustrates her that there is an audio in circulation of a really terrible show she had. She really does sound awful in that clip of Defying Gravity (to the point that I question why she didn't call out that night- she sounded really sick). But I know from my end- it's usually the only way to hear certain actors in certain roles, and I get to see so many shows I wouldn't have if it weren't for boots. I've not been doing it as much recently (just got tired of the poor quality, and find my ways to see theatre live [saving alot of money for travel]) but in the past I found great joy in them, and knew I'd find a way to support the creators some other way. I know some choose to view something for free and not pay for anything at all- I have to wonder what's the percentage of those people are and if they actually make a dent in the theatre world's income. If there was no boot, if they'd pay money to see the production live.

Such a beautiful recording of such a sweet show. My only (nitpicky) complaint is Laura holds that Bb too short in Vanilla Ice Cream! I want to soak in that gorgeous note longer!!!! (found this on YT, this was the reading for this Roundabout production a few years ago, with Kelli O'hara as Amalia. LISTEN to that NOTE!! Oh man someone write for sopranos again )

^ I had to google who that is. The Broadway casting has somewhat been consistent casting a Broadway's funny boys who have a very bright cross-industry career going on for them. Brian D'Arcy James aside (who was apparently also very funny), La Groff and Andrew Rennells have great things going on for them in TV and film, and Rory is a Tony Award Winner who got great notices in Mormon. The role is even funnier to watch than the already funny songs. They really need someone with a great sense of humor for this. Brian D'arcy James is a very established actor himself, veteran of 13 Broadway shows, 3 time Tony nominee, plenty TV and film credits (the latest in Oscar winning Spotlight). He's not a superstar by any means, but he's not an unknown in New York either. This isn't meant to attack at all- he's generally (sadly) very underrated by many :/

Bookdepository .com- free shipping worldwide and their prices are usually fine, depending on how rare thd book is. I get most of my books from them, theyre usually cheaper than my bookstore. (And they're owned by amazon so they're legit too)

I have to add that if anyone thinks the Tonys (and every other award show in the buisness of entertainment) aren't a game of politics they're delusional. There are so many stories from history of the Tonys and others to support this, I won't be suprised if some of this season surface at some point..
Was Hamilton the strongest overall show this season? Yes. Did it deserve all 11 awards? Not in my opinion. Is Hamilton a really fun inventive fresh show? Yes absaloutly. Is it the second coming of musical theatre? Nope- but it sure is made out to be in the media, that makes it overrated in my opinion... doesn't take anything away from the great show it is though
But are the awards given on quality alone? Nope no they aren't.

Yeah I get what you're saying. I also find Once registers very differently on stage and on the cd- and I like both but in different ways if that makes sense...

The only thing that can put me off a cast recording of a show I like is the actors featured on it. For instance, with Fun Home, I only listen to the off-broadway recording of when it was at the Public because I much prefer Alexandra Socha's voice to Emily Skeggs. However, both times I've seen Fun Home have been with Emily Skeggs and in person her voice doesn't bother me at all and she gives a terrific performance. In general though if I like all the actors/voices featured and I like the show, I will like the cast recording. See but I love Beth and her voice in the performance I've seen, but it feels like the cast recording just doesn't flow- I find it tiresome to listen to. But love the actors, score and book very much.. I feel like some shows lose a quality in the recording studio while others don't (and some even better as cast records - Lippa's Wild Party for ex.) Do you not find that? Maybe its just me

There was a discussion earlier in the thread about cast recording and t\how well they do justice to the show.
I get most of theatre exposure through cast recordings, and some are magical (the first that springs to mind in 2013 Cinderella on Broadway- MAGIC! I could listen to it again and gain and even though it's edited I get full sense of the show) and some just don't work (Fun Home, for example, is a magic, tender, beautiful show, but I couldn't get through the cast recording once)
I wonder what makes a cast recording a good one? is it the show that won't lend to an audio only medium? quality of the actors as reording artists (because Beth Malone is a terrifc actress whom I love, but I couldnt listen to most Fun Home tracks)? the editing of the musical to fit the recording?
Do you guys have different recordings that are better/worse than others?
(for the record I think the Hamilton's recording does the show justice- in that that it's fun and a good show, but not the best thing that ever happened to musical theatre)

Hmm, I could be wrong here but I think the draw was more Sara Barellies than Jessie. Sara has been promoting the show heavily to her fans since before it opened and even had that album of her singing the songs. I also think the colourful, upbeat marketing helps. I didn't know of Jessie until Beautiful and I follow Broadway theatre fairly closely, so I don't see why tourists would know her name, especially as she doesn't do any TV or film. Sure having a Tony winner as the lead tends to bode well but I don't think this is similar to Audra, who I think has managed to make herself a star from theatre alone which is great in this day and age. That's to be expected though considering Audra has been doing Broadway for much longer and has the most Tonys for acting out of anyone. I'm not expecting to see a huge drop for Waitress after Jessie leaves to be honest. This is not to take away from her performance which is wonderful. I agree, it's predominantly a Sara Barellies thing, though having Jessie Mueller gave it some credibility. And as for the show itself, I thought it had lots of touches of great pop craftsmanship in the lyrics, but I was less enthralled by the score and rather actively disliked the ending. Mainly, I came away hoping Barellies tries her hand at another show in the future as she's a rare songwriting talent. Yep yep agree with all this- i think Sara was more of a draw than Jessie (who I adore, so that's nothing to say of her), and also that while the score had a few gems (Ogie's song and She Used to be Mine) but as a whole it sounded like one long song, reptitve and borderline boring (and the book didn't help)- but I think it was a great first attempt and hopefully Sara won't be scared to try her hand at a musical again in the future. That said about Jessie- I think marketing her in London as "Tony winning actress Jessie Mueller" could be a draw for British audiences, even if no one has heard of her before (hint hint PLEASE bring Jessie over)

Yes to R&H Cinderella- the 2013 Broadway production was magic, and I feel like it could work especially well at Regents Park Open Air

So impressive! Well over 100% of potential gross and seating capacity! I really hope they will find a theatre, I think it would do well in the West End, it's just a very approachable show with great music. Though I do think Jessie Mueller plays a big part in the succes, she's just unreal. So I'm interested to see how that will work out here as I don't think she will come over.. Any super early casting ideas? I think Rachel Tucker could be an amazing Jenna! I really want Leanne Jones as Becky and Zizi Strallen as Dawn. As Jenna, I'd love Rachelle Ann Go, Jess Daley or Evelyn Hoskins. Danielle Hope, Emma Kingston or Carrie Hope Fletcher would all be amazing too.Isn't Jenna supposed to be trapped in loveless marrige for years though? The character needs a certain gravitas to her, and utter despair of life and love from years of abuse- those three are so young, and lack the life experience/ acting maturity to carrie the role I think. (also with the book being so dull, a really strong actress is needed to elevate the material a few times over- Jessie Mueller is a revelation on B'way right now.. I'd prefer a stronger actress to a big voice)

Has anyone on this board argued that it's going to be a hit in the UK with the same fury as in the US? We've been fairly reserved in our predictions here IIRC. And one upside to "hype": it's a sign that a work of art has spilled over into broader culture and is attracting the attention of writers and audiences who might ordinarily have missed out. People can like or dislike Hamilton itself but a show that's bringing in new theatre audiences based on the strength of its music and writing rather than big name stars or special effects seems like an unmitigated good thing for the stage. /social media game... Yes, but introducing new people to the world of theatre is a great thing regardless.

She's very pretty, at least there is that... (I haven't seen her perform so can't comment on that) She opens tomorrow so there is a chance some YouTube clips will probably pop up not too long after haha. Boots are so rare in the West End though - I imagine it's a mix pf British culture and stircter ushers, But I can't find a single audio of Sheridan in FG for example... Not that I'm looking anyway...

EDIT: Michael that video is hysterical. I remember binging OBSSESED! videos years ago- they were so good (and Nicole's was a standout) I wish he'd do more. I'm not sure how much of Seth Rudetsky I could tolerate in lengthy portions, but the videos are great. Have you seen the hour long one he did live with Megan Hilty, Ramin Karimloo and Ana Gasteyer? I was sure he was gonna do more of those but I guess not. those and Side by Side on Broadway.com I used to watch all day long
