Makes sense to open a short run of a well known piece as a filler in August. Good for tourist and school holiday trade and the venue is then free again for a new piece in the autumn season.
The production is serviceable and The Vivienne does good work.
There are worse things out there

Let's not forget that many will never forgive her for dragging this on for years and wasting the valuable resources of Curve and her former agents.
She ruined her own career through being a homophobic bigot. Simple as that.

FFS
it is time to block her father's organisation from the courts.
They waste the precious time of the courts seeking to entrench their bigotry in our society.
Enough is enough

Better than quite good!
The lyrics are very well put together and the whole thing has a good flow.

Good theatre should provoke all kinds of feels.
It is not there to pander to those who put feels above theatre.

I would imagine they haven't announced more cast as this is about to get pulled 👀 People are being booked for the band...

Almost certainly c or a variation among those lines.
They may not have one person in charge of keeping on top of submissions so it might just have slipped through the net. Or they get so many that keeping track is hard.
Don't get too disheartened. But open submission is a tough route

As long as the theatre and the agency aren't out of pocket, I don't honestly care where the cash comes from.
If it happens to take money out of the pockets of bigots, I can live with that.

I could cope with some of the ideas. But I haven't heard Shakespeare so badly delivered since the infamous Troilus and Cressida.
Macbeth mumbled too much. Lady M just chopped up her speeches.
It was nothing to do with their accents and everything to do with poor text preparation and badly conceived sound design.

Just home from Oxford press night.
What a mess.
No sense of the world of the play.
Sound design was appalling.
Diction was dreadful from some actors.
Cut of the script made no sense.
Video only effective the banquet scene.
The house was about 50% school kids of various ages. I hope this wasn't their first Shakespeare as it would have put me off for life.

Maybe. But tackling Shakespeare for the first time is something that requires proper support and training.
R&J is particularly verse heavy and has a higher than average number of rhyming lines. You need to understand how to navigate that to fully get to grips with it

Not sure that playing Billy is much use as training to play Romeo

Laura and Marcus were the heart of the show and they were pitch perfect.
Murray Bartlett came close to being a worthy replacement in the most recent version

They really shouldn't be promoting this as "Birmingham Rep presents the world premiere stage adaptation of iconic comedy Withnail and I." Given that it received a stage adaptation in 2013 link
It is the premiere of this version but not a first ever stage outing

The original C4 cast felt so perfect that they are who I will always think of in the central roles.
Maupin was on R4 this evening and he wasn't very engaging on that either.

Audiobook is just over 5 hours. So it is little more than a novella. But it is still a Maupin and we don't have that much of him

They could do with announcing more casting on this.
Given how absent Romeo is through the middle of the play, it would be interesting to see more details

I my have stated this before, if I have, it's Wirth relating- what a mess! I can't help but wonder if there are really any winners here? Just a thought. I hope the she receives whatever support is necessary to move on. Given her family background, that seems unlikely. Even if she does break away from that influence, I still wouldn't welcome her back on stage.

Her father will keep spreading his poison if he can. But we can hope it is the last time we need to hear of her.

It will mean a series of rolling closures. I hope they find other spaces to keep the number of productions/performances in line with normal.
