Shame about the duds in there Michael . Especially when the ticket prices are so high. To quote Meat Loaf, "Two out of five ain't bad". Oddly, my two favourite shows were the two shows I expected the least from and now I do hope both Mean Girls and Pretty Woman (with Sam B, please) will transfer to London quickly.
But yes, ticket prices are crazy. When I first went to Broadway, I always booked the least expensive seats, side and/or back Mezzanine and was in general disappointed with the view. Also, despite 40 or even 50% discount, TKTS is still crazily expensive. So some time ago, I decided to visit Broadway less often or stay shorter but get at least resonably good seats. Lottery is not an option, and many shows either don't offer rush tickets or just too few seats. I did queue up for Come From Away last year. Got there 5h before the box office opened and was 7th (IIRC) in line, and when it finally opened, they only had a handful rush tickets and were then offering standing room to everyone else in the queue. So I did queue for 5h to stand another 2h... Good report! The more I read about Frozen, the less I wanna watch. Ditto... everyone I know who has seen it says the same. It’s just not right and they didn’t nail it. This was the show I was most looking forward to see and I so wanted to love it, but it did disappoint. The new songs are boring - with the exception of Monster, which is amazing and IMO better than Let It Go (similar to Wicked, where I prefer No Good Deed over Defying Gravity) - but my biggest criticism is the entire set. Again, not (only) the ice castle (or lack thereof), but just in general. I do hope they work on it before it eventually transfers to London. At least the two leads were amazing.

No idea what this show is about, but I just booked a ticket for the Hammersmith Apollo solely because of Ashleigh Gray

Flying back home today after spending a long weekend in New York seeing five shows. Since New York threads seem to be en vogue, here's mine
1. Friday, 31st August 8pm, Avenue Q @ New World Stages, Orchestra B119, $59.00 + fees My original plan was to get a rush ticket for A Bronx Tale, but since this show closed a few days ago, I was left with an empty slot. On Friday morning, I headed down to the Southside/Seaport TKTS to see what the got on offer. Wasn't interested in most of the shows so I decided to see Avenue Q again, which they offered with a 40% discount. I've already seen the show at NWS and am aware of the small band, but this time, something lacked. Can't put my finger on it, though. Also, the lady playing Gary Coleman must've been sick as she spoke-sang through her parts in the first act and was barely audible. In the interval, I did wonder what they'll do with Schadenfreude - guess what, they've cut it completely
2. Saturday, 1st September 2pm, Pretty Woman @ Nederlander Theatre, Orchestra J22, $139.00 + fees Haven't seen the movie. Yes, really. I only went because of Sam Barks and she did not disappoint. In fact, she was amazing - and looked absolutely stunning in that red dress. The score is instantly forgettable, after I had left the theatre, I couldn't hum a single tune. Still, I really enjoyed this feel-good show and would happily see it again. It was also my first time seeing Orfeh on stage - what a voice.
3. Saturday, 1st September 8pm, Frozen @ St James Theatre, Orchesta J22, $152.50 + fees
The show I was most looking forward to, but I'm sad to report that I didn't particularly enjoy it. I did listen to the cast recording before so I did know that the new songs - apart from Monster, which in my opinion is even better than Let It Go - are not that good, but during the show I noticed again the difference between old and new songs. And Hygge is really weird. The set looked cheap (not only the ice castle, which was done OK-ish, but in general), the view from my pretty expensive seat (three seats in from the wall) was quite restricted and the audience was horrible, worst audience I've had in quite some time. The two leads were amazing though, Caissie Levy sang the hell out of the songs and Patti Murin is pure fun to watch. This show could have been so much better. Admittedly, maybe my expectations were just too high, but still...
4. Sunday, 2nd September 3pm, Mean Girls @ August Wilson Theatre, Orchestra B9, $139.50 + fees Again, haven't seen the movie and only bought a ticket out of a mood. I think this was my favourite show of the five I saw. The score was OK with two great songs - Apex Predator and I'd rather be me - but I haven't laughed that much in a theatre for quite some time - this show is pure fun and I do hope it transfers quickly. Also, quite unusual for Broadway, I had covers for all three Plastics. The view from my seat was great and I did remember sitting in the very same seat for Groundhog Day.
5. Sunday, 2nd September 7pm, Wicked @ Gershwin Theatre, Orchestra H28, $99.00 + fees Booked this ticket long ago, mostly to see two new leading ladies. So you can surely imagine that I was slightly miffed when they announced that the two tour leads - Jessica Vosk and Amanda Jane Cooper - were transferring over to Broadway as I had seen both on tour in Orlando and, to be honest, didn't particularly enjoy their performances. I was at least hoping to see a cover, but wasn't lucky. Both were OK, but nothing special, and I just can't understand why so many fans seem to be so impressed by Jessica Vosk. And once again, I noticed that I've seen Wicked way too often and need to extend my hiatus.

I also just found out that the tour is visiting Berlin's Admiralspalast from 4th to 9th December 2018. Couldn't help myself but I just had to book a trip to our capital to see the tour again - which will also be my first time seeing Jodie as Sherrie. You’re going to see this in Bromley/Dartford Michael on the UK tour? Bromley, Manchester and Birmingham so far. And Berlin, of course. Most likely can‘t do Wimbledon next year because of a clash with a business trip. I’d love to see the tour in Edinburgh, but I‘m not booking a trip to the UK after March 2019 until a decision about Brexit has been made.

I do find the pairing of Sophie and Alice visually bizzare because of the age difference and we are lead to believe they were both in the same year at school. Aren't actually G(a)linda and Nessarose supposed to be of the same age? Elphaba is introduced as the older sister who was only sent to school to look after her sister.

Just wondering whether the posts about eating should be split off into their own topic? They’re liable to not be noticed once the Lehman Trilogy has departed There's already a thread on this, so if our members want to post their restaurant/eating recommendations there (again), feel free to do so: theatreboard.co.uk/thread/1566/best-show-eateries

Two favourite comic strips of mine are PhD Comics, phdcomics.com/, and FoxTrot, www.foxtrot.com/. While I don't have a PhD, I am very familiar with many of the problems depicted in the comics by friends in academia and of course from my own time back at university while writing my diploma thesis and tutoring students. And for the latter, Jason Fox, their yougest son, does remind me of myself. I also have all of the books both creators have released at home. And for the comic books, or bandes dessinées as mentioned by viserys, I am a huge fan of André Franquin, in particular his Gaston series. More of some kind of nostalgia, I also continue to collect the more recent Asterix and Lucky Luke comic even though I think they should have ended both series quite some time ago. That said, I just can't get used to Mangas and don't like their style at all.

For reasons beyond my understanding, Incredibles 2 isn't released in Germany until end of September. But as I happen to be in Rotterdam this weekend, I did see an English version (with Dutch subtitles) here yesterday Evening. Firstly, how adorable is the short film Bao? It had me close to tears, well done Pixar. And for the film itself, I loved it and think Pixar excelled themselves. Incredibles 2 might easily become my new favourite Pixar film. Mr Incredible as stay-at-home dad, Elastigirl as working mom and the kids saving the day .

Really happy to see this transfer as I hadn't have a chance to see it at The Other Palace. Just booked my ticket for late October. Haven't been to the Theatre Royal, Haymarket before so that's another bonus for me

I have no interest at all in football and never watched a single game. Most likely I'm even the only German not watching the German team playing right now - and not even caring about the result.

Already booked for Bromley, Manchester and Birmingham. Looking forward to seeing Jodie Steele as Sherrie as I've missed her Elphaba, but I do hope Lucas Rush gets a few adlib lessons from Simon Lipkin and Nathan Amzi.
Zoe Birkett seems a bit young for Justice, though.

Jessica Vosk is taking over as Elphaba on Broadway? Seriously? Seen her on tour in Orlando ~18 months ago and her performance left me unimpressed. Too bad that I already booked a ticket for early September. Maybe I’m lucky and her standby is on...

I'm confused, has it posted closure or are we just speculating? The closure announcement is hidden in the tour annoucement. UK tour announcement and a cheeky West End closure announced in there too!

"Kick It Like Beckham" just makes it sound like they're attempting to dodge copyright, such as the chap who opened a Portuguese chicken restaurant called Fernando's, or the Morrisingh's/Singhbury's supermarkets. Kick it like Beckham is the official German title of the movie: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kick_it_like_BeckhamMost likely because the German verb "kicken" can be roughly translated to "to play football"

Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I for one would love to see Simon Lipkin play Phil.
