It has the highest average ticket price, but both Ain't Too Proud and Tootsie are outgrossing it. Tootsie could certainly do with shifting a few more seats but I think Ain't Too a Proud is turning into a true hit.
This thread is about Hadestown, which many people here have seen in a previous itteration. Not Tootsie or another show you reckon is doing better.
UM..YIKES?!

Are they actually using kids for some of the brothers then? That's such a terrible idea. Maybe for Benjamin yes but Joseph is supposed to be the second youngest so the rest of them are all meant to be older than him. Having thirteen year old kids plotting to kill their brother is going to feel very weird...I am SO here for this.

I did feel a bit sorry for Jac during his part of the routine when we heard a scream go up which was obviously for Jason coming on stage for his part in the medley. So that's what that was. Makes sense.

musicalmarge is on a roll! AMEN! I know we're all saved because she's giving us the gospel on musical theatre performance standards! I promise to remain silent because musicalmarge is doing the good lord's work.

Has there been an update on a cast recording?

I'd rather focus on her performance and not her size.
But not to single her out, everyone else seems awful. I actually stopped watching by the time Donovan appeared. Then came back a few minutes later because it was too much to take it all at once. The new kid is nothing to talk about, and the choreographer's idea of a dance number is jump jump jump clap turn jump jump jump clap turn.

If the person you cast can't sing the role, you have cast the wrong person. She wasn't even able to sustain the line at the lower tone. I agree in principal, but this show is always different, there isn’t necessarily “the way it’s written”. Laurie Beechman, for example, sang it lower again in C, because the arrangement was completely different. Just because SS sings it a tone lower, doesn’t mean she “can’t sing the role”. Transposition of this nature happens way more often than you might think. Sustaining the notes, I suspect, will come in time. This is only after 1 (or 2) weeks of rehearsals. You will NOT compare the late great Laurie Beechman to Sheridan Smith. I'm just amazed that people are finally starting to realize how much of an incapable musical theatre performer Sheridan Smith is. It took you long enough.

I was just watching an interview with the queens on AOLBuild Series and they talked about how *they* will go on the tour. Will the show at the Arts close or will there be a new cast? I thought this was an open ended run in London.

Hamilton is closing in Chicago early 2019. DEH did well in Chicago early in the year and it will come back for a return engagement. I don't think it's the kind of show that can sustain a long/open ended run a la Wicked or Hamilton outside of the two major markets. The Toronto run proved as much. TBH I was surprised at this announcement too. It must have been really bad to close it so abruptly than just let it run its course and close it at the end of its booking period.

^Why would it? We are a UK board. Broadway isn't a place most of us can afford to visit, the show doesn't contain a British star, and hasn't confirmed a West End transfer. Once it ticks those latter two boxes, I'm sure it'll be of interest. There was a lot of Dear Evan Hansen love before it transferred. People were also very familiar with Waitress before it transferred. Hamilton? I could go on with examples. The one thing I'll say is that UK interest tends to peak after a cast recording is released.

NOT the one Kristen is attached to. Kristen is attached to a version that is done by David Yazbek.

I would love Tootsie to be playing around the same time as &Juliet. Michael is now a Broadway actor (and not a soap opera actor like the film). The show he auditions for and stars in is a hip/woke version of Romeo & Juliet and he plays Juliet's sassy no nonsense nurse.

Glad to see it's going somewhere. There was a run at Berkley Rep a few years ago, and I read it was undercooked. It certainly didn't look good. Love the movie and its soundtrack.

It really is one of the best numbers in the film. I could swear it was omitted. I'll have to check. It's a real shame if it So I re-examined this matter. Based on the Silicon Valley production, the choir part of 'The Plagues' remain the same ('thus saith the lord, thus saith the lord, I send a pestilence and plague, etc') but the verses between Moses and Ramases are completely different. But I've also recently seen clips of another regional production in the US, and it seems they've used the original song as heard on the film and the soundtrack. So who knows what they'll do in London

People who are surprised this isn't good..you're surprised? Really? It'll do well in London..London audiences love absurd hyper-American musicals more than Americans do. 9 to 5, Grease, Hairspray, Legally Blonde..this will fit right in and run for a while because it looks dirt cheap.

Just saw the trailor..and it occurred to me. Children or teenagers will think this is bizarre. It's set in a time when FAO Schwartz was a child's dream (it closed its business but came back last year), and children toys and entertainment was so different. A teenager's life shown in this show based on a film from the '80s is radically different than the lives of children and teens these days. A strange choice for a revival...

Off topic for the American Production, but if it were to transfer to Broadway, we wouldn't get any f***ery with The Queens like we did last year at the Tony's, where the girls are jointly nominated? Because I don't think the Tony's usually do that and after Six, Our Ladies and The Girls, am kinda over it. I can see this going to New York, i.e.,Off-Broadway, but this won't and shouldn't play a Broadway house. It's not the type of show that would or should, not to mention that it's barely even 90 minutes. It's a brilliant production that needs a small house.

Have they announced what the fifth song from the film is yet? I hope to God it's The Plagues because that's my favourite song from the film; so haunting. I might be wrong but if I recall correctly The Plagues was cut from the regional run in San Fran.
