We've just had to return two concession tickets for the February 4th 3pm matinee. As at 12.50, they're still avaiable

(Slighty) off topic. We saw The King and I on Broadway with Faith Prince probably 25 years ago. There was definitely a boat. We saw the same production with Elaine Paige at the Palladium. More a suggestion of a boat. And on tour in Norwich. By this time the boat had more or less disappeared (as had most of the sets to be replaced by an awful lot of red curtains)!

What I'm wondering is, how distinctly Dave Malloy-esque is this? He has such a recognisable and unusual approach to musical theatre which would seem at odds with a big family musical. I'm not seeing this until January and I want to make sure I manage my expectations so I'm not disappointed. I can hardly expect it to be another Ghost Quartet, but is it evidently by the same songwriter? Are there any elements of that approach here? Me too. I was lucky enough to see Natasha etc a couple of times, once in the tent (superb) and on Broadway (great but not as enjoyable). Distinctive composer with an ability to write different genres..and some great tunes. So I've been a little surprised that some people who've seen the show have commented on a lack of memorable songs. We're going on my birthday in January,so fingers crossed!

Looks like a UK tour next year. 101 Dalmations playing Norwich next July. Not many details at the moment, but must surely be this production. Sorry. Error post!

There's a few videos on line from the theatre: the sitzprobe
and a clip of some scenes:
Big orchestra.
Lots of questions!! Japanese cast? Surtitles? Same staging? Orchestrations?

We've booked for this in November. It's advertised as being with a "full orchestra". I'd be interested to know from any attendees on the current leg of the tour what that means. I'd hope 22 musicians......

All I know at the moment!
"As our Friends and Supporters, we wanted you to be the first to hear about this bold new musical co-produced by Buxton International and Norwich Theatre.
Built around the songs of Ivor Novello, it is loosely based on incidents in the early life of feminist and pacifist Vera Brittain and the intriguing lives, loves and motivations of those closest to her.
Vera is determined not to become a traditional young married woman. Her brother, Edward, must hide his secret love for Bobbie. Roland wants to become an esteemed poet, and Bobbie, forced to follow in his father’s footsteps, would rather search for a new way of life that would include Edward.
The war in Europe shatters all their hopes and dreams, and Vera embarks on a life-long campaign for peace and equality."

Murderous Instincts. A so called salsa musical. It played in Norwich at the Theatre Royal for maybe 2 weeks as a tryout. The best part of the evening was the argument between the director and someone else at the front of the stalls at one point in the evening. It was just puerile, little salsa, or anything engaging or memorable (apart from the attempted conga through the embarrassed audience). It went to the Savoy for a while, and I'm pretty sure the title of the show changed at some point. I don't know why, but we've not had any more musical tryouts in Norwich since!

Great news!!!
So have the Menier still got their premises? Or are they going to be elsewhere? Others on here have said that they'd lost their building.

Love Theatre has discounts on some of the Sunday 4pm shows, which I've not seen elsewhere. Better for us travelling down from Norwich!

We're booked for a mid week matinee in Norwich (along with at least some others!), last week of the month. The week's still on sale (unlike this week's Wuthering Heights which has just now cancelled because of a covid outbreak). Could well be the last week of the tour. The following week in Eastbourne seems to have gone off sale.

An hour into the pre-sale and there are no decent seats left for the Palladium date next May. Hopefully they've held plenty back. (Correction, that was Ticketmaster, LW Theatres have plenty) I'm amazed. She's booked into Norwich's Theatre Royal as part of this tour. Top price tickets are £100.50!!!!!!! I've never seen such pricing at the TR in over 30 years. And even more amazing (to me, but hey, what do I know), appear to have sold half the stalls in a couple of days.

Last night's opening performance in Norwich went ahead with 8 (yes eight!) understudies. Tuesday's performance cancelled. They say the rest of the performances will go ahead as planned.(I'll double check before we leave the house for the theatre tomorrow!!!) Was anyone else (who wasn't off during the live broadcast) off last night? Sorry. I wasn't there. (Hopefully) going tomorrow. This is the local paper "review" which has some info. www.eveningnews24.co.uk/things-to-do/days-out/rocky-horror-show-norwich-theatre-royal-review-8457598As the Theatre Royal seems to have abandoned programmes since reopening, not sure I'll have much more info, assuming it's on, tomorrow.

Hopefully it’ll show up somewhere else. Whatsonstage says also says it’s not happening at the Old Vic but “a future life is expected” Could well be and the wording of the e mail says not happening at The Old Vic rather than just cancelled or not happening. The statement on their website (according to BW): The Old Vic and co-producers Scenario Two have mutually agreed that the production of Into the Woods, scheduled for spring 2022, will not take place at The Old Vic. All ticket bookers will be contacted directly. The Old Vic wishes the show well for its future life. definitely seems to suggest it's going to turn up somewhere else.

We're in Norwich and attend the Norwich Theatre Royal probably 15 + times a year. Their programmes have always been decently priced and informative. Occasionally, when they have a big musical, or say Glynbourne, they only sell the show's own programmes, but the vast majority of shows have TR programmes. We saw Bedknobs & Broomsticks yesterday, the sort of show you'd expect to have a TR programme. But no programmes! An email response talked about new staff and sort of said they hadn't got around it. Anybody else's local theatre reopened and not got around, as they say, to sorting out programmes?

A Carousel Instagram thing (story? I'm confused by these modern things..) states that they're trying to do a cast recording, and seemed pretty hopeful it would happen.

Had an email through from Open Air Theatre today with a nice £10 discount on top two prices (£65 and £45) for this, as below: Book by 10 September using the promo code JCSAB10, the offer is valid on all performances, excluding Saturday evenings*. Even better... Regent Park's Open Air Theatre's "phenomenal" 5-star production of Carousel runs until 25th September. Popbitch readers can get tickets for £35 & £25 instead of £65 & £45. Book before 10th September and quote POPBITCH. Discount will apply in your basket; subject to availability.

We're booked for the last week in August. I'd hoped/assumed that we'd be back to "normal" by then. I've just had an email from RPOAT saying that they're reallocating seats for our performance on a socially distanced basis. I'm not sure how it's going to work. It's an oldies Thursday matinee, so looked pretty fully booked.

Don't know if this has come up before, but apparently Harvey Goldsmith (longtime rock/music/event etc promoter/manager etc) has plans to build a theatre in Birmingham specifically for a new production of SE. Planned for last year, but obviously postponed. Mentions it in passing towards the end of an interview on the Bob Lefsetz podcast

In the tent you got vodka shots before it started as well!
