And I've hoped they had finally cast their first British Elder Price - Mark Evans... Still: I do wonder when the full cast will be announced. I really can't imagine Mark Evans in the role at all, I'm not sure why, he's a decent actor although I've only seem him as Fiyero in Wicked. I saw Mark on the US tour and he was a great Elder Price!

Going by your experience, mine, and others on here, it does seem that the production really matters, yes, wickedgrin. Thanks dgjbear and mallardo for the advice, will do. So it's the 1998 cast CD with the Statue of Liberty on the front, right? Yes the OBCR has the Statue Of Liberty on the cover and is 2 cd's. I saw this on Broadway with the original cast. It really was an amazing production and, pre broadway.com, etc., I didn't fully appreciate the magnitude of all the "names" I was so lucky to have seen until years later.

Got mine too and somehow missed it yesterday so thanks for the heads up! I 13 changed to I 18. What I didn't like is "tickets will be posted to you". Meaning I prob won't get them before my trip to London. I had "Box Office collection", why couldn't they leave it like that? Probably it was just a pre-written email but to be sure you should send an email to the customer service. I agree, you should contact customer service. The same thing happened to me with Show Boat. I didn't get an email, but unexpectedly received a ticket through the mail just shortly before I left for London.

It's funny you say that, because there has been an outdoor drama running every summer in Kentucky (where I live) for almost 60 years called "The Stephen Foster Story." Not that it is ready for Broadway, but maybe it's the oldest jukebox musical LOL! Check it out:

For Broadway, I also like The Ensemblist, which is a little bit of a different format in that they will usually talk to several people in one episode and focus on ensemble cast members.

I loved this show and was so lucky I got to see it when I came to London in April - my highlight of the year! I hope they all have a great last day and am jealous of any of you going to see it!

How is it determined if there will be 4 or 5 nominees in a category?

Those were limited runs though, and both are expected to transfer either to Broadway, West End or both. This was designed to be a long runner that didn't make it unfortunately past four/five months. It would of lost investors a lot of money. I wish it would get nominated and it will no doubt get a couple here or there. But I think, particularly the supporting cast, could get overshadowed by this. Also, it is a pretty packed list of nominees already, they could definitely be overshadowed by other performers. Show Boat was meant to be a limited run, wasn't it? Correct - it was originally a limited run only to January.

The original Drury Lane opening had the spectacle of the curtain going up a little way, revealing a long line of lovely lady legs all tapping in time. I guess that's why they are doing it in the same theatre - it's quite a start to the show. I think that's a "thing" for 42nd Street. I saw it on tour in the US 10 years ago (or more-the memory fades!) and they did that, too. I agree that it's a great start to the show! That's basically all I remember about it.

FYI - Simon is going to be in the 2 show only reprise of "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change" at The Arts on Monday, 15 August. I haven't seen this mentioned on the board anywhere I don't think.

Monday are one of the best selling days. Tuesday the worst. It's a similar performance schedule to Mrs Henderson Presents. Shrek also had Tuesdays off. That's interesting. I would have thought Mondays would be the worst selling. In the US, most of Broadway and the tours are dark on Mondays.

It's not a good recording.. Obviously recorded live. A studio receding would be good Well, it is good (meaning I'll take it!), but no, it is not studio recording quality. I suppose it must have been done to use as background audio on the promo videos. Which might mean Ol' Man River exists somewhere, too.

Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man on Graham Norton's Radio 2 show just now. It sounded incredible! Didn't it! Still holding out hope for a cast recording.

Quick question for our American members (or those who know): As I'm currently in the US (California), I'm planning on watching this year's Tony Awards ceremony live. However, I'm slightly confused by the announced starting times: The official website says 8/7c, so if I'm not mistaken, that'd be 5pm pacific time (PT). However, it also states "delayed PT", i.e. 8pm at the west coast after all? Correct - it won't be shown live on the West Coast, but will start at 8 pm Pacific Time on CBS.

I saw this on tour in the USA years ago. The only thing I remember about it is that at one point some characters were playing basketball and the ball went into the audience. Everyone cheered when the audience member threw it back. Pretty sure that was the highlight.

I'm going to the matinee tomorrow, I really hope that at least Gina, Sandra and Rebecca are on! Most likely they will. Rebecca posted on Twitter that she is on holiday next week. Gina rarely calls out of any show she ever does and recently responded to someone on Twitter that she has no holiday scheduled at this point.

Does anyone know if there have been any understudies on recently? Dale Evans was on as Frank while Danny Collins was doing Jekyll & Hyde. I saw on Twitter one day last week that Victoria Hinde went on as Julie and Linda John-Pierre went on as Queenie. Also, Alex Young was out for a few days recently with an ankle injury and Georgie Ashford went on as Ellie.

It's always seemed to me that pretty much everything in Phantom requires accepting that Christine is the least intelligent person who ever lived. And that it is actually Ramin under the mask and not The Phantom.

Yes, it is only the fixed middle blocks in the stalls and circle, plus the "permanent" parts of the side stalls that are currently on sale. In the stalls, it means that row C for "Show Boat" is row I for "School of Rock." There is a plan on theatremonkey now, for those interested, and it will update nearer the time. The official statement on the Really Useful Theatres web page reads, "Please note: Current seating plans are not true representations of the final auditorium layout. Whilst we try to ensure accuracy as far as possible, we cannot guarantee that seat locations will not change when the show begins installation in October 2016. In particular, please be aware that some seating may end up closer or further from the stage than currently shown. Customers with specific requirements are advised to discuss these with the theatre prior to booking to avoid any confusion." I booked an early ticked for Show Boat that changed to a few seats over once they actually got in the theatre and set the final configuration. I had booked an aisle seat and they kept me there, even though the seat number changed when a few seats were added to the row. My friends got notified by email, but See Tickets actually mailed the new ticket to me.

I would love it, because I think this is the most "modern" sounding "Show Boat" there has ever been, but I'd say there is no chance unless R&H Theatricals (the rights holders) want to put the money in to have this orchestration recorded. It is my understanding that the point of this "Goodspeed" version was to allow "Show Boat" to be presented in a manageable fashion, with a reasonable size cast and band, so that it continues to be performed. With few exceptions, cast recordings don't make money. At least on Broadway, usually the only reason even shows that aren't successful or have short runs get a cast recording is to fuel interest in future productions (regional, amateur, etc.). In this case, its not like there aren't a million versions of these songs already out there. But I will keep my fingers crossed just in case! Is it up to the right's holders or the producers of the production? I'm no expert, but I would think that the only people with anything to gain by doing it would be the rights holders, who would have to grant permission in any event. Somebody is going to have to fund it.

I so hope this cast is recorded. The score is played beautifully! Seeing it again this afternoon and cannot wait! I'd like to echo this. how much weight would an online petition have? The more I think of it, the more I realize just how flawed the entire show is simply by story-telling means. Gaylord returns decades later and all is forgotten and forgiven. Girl, please. Magnolia starts off feeling like a secondary character, but lo and behold by the end of the show you realize that she's the lead. Julie La Vern, by far the most interesting character in the show (with the best songs), is written off at second two, runs off into the wings and we know nothing of what happens to her. So unsatisfying. Spoiler Alert! A lot of people say this and, of course, who wouldn't want to hear more songs from Rebecca Trehearn? But I would argue that we do know what happens to Julie. Deep into alcoholism, she walks away from her "last chance" job. To my mind, she's not long for this world. Others may have a different idea and I think its fine to be left open to other interpretation, but there is certainly enough information there to know there is no happily ever after for Julie. The take-away is that Julie knows this when she makes this sacrifice for someone who loved her unconditionally back at the last happy time in her life. I would also note that Julie disappears in similar, if not identical, fashion from the original novel. I agree that the ending with Gaylord is hard for modern day audiences to accept (me included), but I think this production does the best job I've ever seen with how it is handled. We are shown with a very subtle gesture that Gaylord has conquered his drinking problem when he refuses the beer offered by Captain Andy. He's obviously a broken man. But what I commend this production for is that there is a lot more ambiguity at the end than I have seen anybody mention. I've seen productions where Gay and Magnolia embrace and are arm-in-arm at the end and Magnolia tells her father that "this is a nice surprise." That most decidedly does not happen here. There is 20 years of hurt on Magnolia's face as she sees Gay, and they never get closer than several paces apart. And while everyone signals Kim that it is okay to go to her father, at the end Magnolia is alone on the upper deck of the boat, which reminded me of Parthy looking down on everything at the beginning of the show. The innocent, carefree young girl Magnolia was is long gone. Maybe a little is forgiven, but not at all forgotten.

1. I think the use of "board" is an attempt at a pun, as in "all aboard." Show BOAT.2. All the songs were not recorded in Sheffield. Just "You Are Love" recorded for play on Elaine Page's radio show. Really? I dont! LOL-I didn't say it was a good one! But you might be right
