Is this a show you would recommend to someone who knows NOTHING about the TV series? Depends how much you hate them - IN MY OPINION ONLY 🤣

I may have missed this in the other review(s) but is the show one large rehash of old sketches linked together by songs but out of chronological order? There was a 'Del Boy' diary published a few years ago which was essentially the plots from old episodes which was a big con. Is this on par with that? Not quite - it’s based primarily on ‘Dates’ (special from 1988) and ‘Little Problems’ (series 6 finale in 1989). It then includes gags, jokes and all sorts of dialogue from across the entire run - it’s hard to explain, but they’d just be sat in Nelson Mandela House and their conversation is made up of parts of different conversations from different episodes. Visual gags are there though - Trig’s suit, Del touching Marlene up every time etc. One of the last scenes even has Rodney dressed up in a replica of his costume from the first ever episode, so it’s all a big jumble. In a good way though. The timeline is skewed though - it’s set in 1989 but Grandad died in 1985! IMHO the whole thing is skewed but if we are going for timeline being an issue they establish it being 1989 mere moments before Del makes a "Robin Hood" reference and recites the lyrics for "Everything I Do (I Do It For You)". That's the theme song from "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves which had it's cinematic release in 1991. The whole show, to us, felt like the ultimate dodgy deal. Like we'd been sold a product down the market that Del himself had promised was going to solve all our problems only to find when we got it home it wasn't quite as described, to say the least, and ended up burning our house down. If you care for our opinion - avoid this show at all costs.

Has the run time for this settled down now?
What time is an evening show coming down, roughly?

Hi lovely people!
Prior to hitting the returns queue for this can anyone that's seen it tell me which side of the stage the car is on?
If offered RV seats on either side of the stalls is there a recommendation as to which side to take?
Many thanks 😁

Lovely portrait of a lovely man. Much more about politics and Brexit (the real one not the film) than I was expecting. Someone RT a sweet blog post by one of the emerging Sketching writers about what it was like working with James this morning. You get the feeling it was a better experience for the writers than the end result suggested. I wonder what he meant in the docu talking about not knowing how much time projects take. I know what the musical is, it's an adaptation of a popular film and going to be opening on Broadway first. All I can say is it's completely different from Graham's previous work in more ways than one. Can you throw us more of a crumb? He said "musical with a pop star" in the programme and he already has Finding Neverland under his belt with Gary Barlow. One is still pondering!

Newbie question, what time does the queue for returns for matinees start? I see a lot about 6pm for the evening shows, so is it a case of 12.30pm for the matinees? Thanks for your help This would be great to know when it becomes apparent as planning on heading down on Feb 2nd (against my better judgement and the opinions of you trusted lot!)

I was just wondering if anyone could confirm if understudies are listed in the programme and, if so, who they are?
Many thanks. 😇

Caught this last night and have to say - I hated it.
For me it was the worst thing I've seen at the Almeida and possibly one of the worst things I've seen EVER.
The script was senseless, the production on the whole was boring, the accents were sloppy and it all felt around 4days long.
I considered walking out but was trying to convince myself I was missing "something" and perhaps it would become apparent at some point.
It never did.

Is anyone with priority access able to provide any information about pricing tiers?
Need to know how many punters I need to get in before noon to be able to afford a half decent seat 😜

Tamsin Grieg was 5th row, centre stalls this afternoon for Girl From The North Country at the Noel Coward. Also saw her in The National audience for Angels in America a few months ago.
Her height and hair make her an easy spot!

Inspired by Imelda Staunton's stance when performing in Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf earlier this year we are, as the break a leggers, launching an initiative called #woolfwhistle
We are starting by asking all major theatre companies to immediately consider limiting consumption of food & beverage to pre-show, interval & post-show areas outside auditoriums. We believe noisy guzzlers are distracting actors & audience members and even making audiences to consider staying away from the theatre rather than have their experience ruined (and ultimately money wasted) by poor theatre etiquette.
Also we are calling on YOU to report ANY bad behaviour - mobile phone use, talking, noisy jewelry etc here on twitter using hashtag #woolfwhistle & tagging the theatre in which it occured & what you did about it (if felt able to).
We are also encouraging theatres to hold a couple of "relaxed performances" during runs for people who cannot go without consumption during a show, need to use their phone, talk or feel that they wouldn't be bothered by any of these things.
Together we know we can improve theatre etiquette!
Join us! #woolfwhistle

Due to family commitments, I had to leave at the interval. Sorry to leave as I would have enjoyed finding out what happened to most of the characters (exception being the unlikely girl/writer relationship). Now the play is nearly over please can someone post a summary of the action in the 2nd half? It would be much appreciated. The playtext is available to purchase. Actually 20% off over on Nick Hern right now! www.nickhernbooks.co.uk/albion

I REALLY wanted to love this show but I think the accolades it's been getting are more of a result of people not wanting to seem homophobic or being negative about original British theatre. Either that or the producer has paid for them. This show is average at best and hasn't transformed enough from the Sheffield staging to warrant a West End transfer. The book and direction are clunky and apart from the opening number lacks energy. There are some good one-liners but a lot of the show falls flat. The entire section in the drag dress shop (also for a small town it's slightly astounding that there would be a such a shop - I wouldn't know where in London to go and get a good drag frock in men's sizes) literally drags and the actor playing the "legendary" Loco Chanel just looks uncomfortable. The big moments of the show fail to ever materialise. We never actually get to see Jamie in drag as Me Me Me and the second act gets taken over with a confusing arc to go to the prom in drag but in the end lets you down as well by confusing drag with transgender issues. I really don't want to hate on something that I really enjoyed and shouted about in concept album stage and the show is a story that should be told in 2017 I just didn't think it was good enough. John McCrea is an excellent actor but a below par singer, the staging of the ballads in act 2 just become samey and dull and if you're going to have contemporary dance in one part - make it a part of the whole show or it just feels like a lazy way of filling the stage when you don't have any interesting set. Also pick a finale and end on it - don't have three lack lustre ones that never get a WOW factor. When this closes early (and sadly I think it will) everyone will be talking about how audiences don't support British writing and the West End is doomed to be filled with a plethora of Jukebox musicals - when actually that isn't true. If something is TRUELY great people will go and see it, Jamie just isn't it. Great to see this has caused some conversation. I agree with all of this. Some aspects of the show I REALLY liked, including some of the performances (Mina Anwar is brilliant) but a lot of it felt like a wasted opportunity from a creative team that lack experience. Some of the songs, for example, completely lack musicality. We say as much in our review as The Break A Leggers over on YouTube and it's clear from our like/dislike ratio there are some vehement defenders of the show. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, of course, but I just don't feel like the 5* reviewers are rating the show completely subjectivly. At least, not the same show I saw.....

Hmmmmmm,
If the Whatsonstage review can pass comment such as "It's not a perfect musical, with perhaps a track too many and the first half taking a little time to get where it needs to be" and "The grey, box-tower set occasionally feels clunky - the slightly jarring projections get a little lost within it all." and then gives it the maximum rating of 5* - what is the metric here?
Thoughts?

Saw this last night.
Act 1 is superb already and, by the time they get out of previews, I've no doubt that act 2 will be also.
It's funny, it's moving, it's shocking and all in all, it's very Chekhovian.
There's no new ground being broken in the topics covered and the format but it's bang up to date and thoroughly compelling.
Victoria Hamilton is sensational and her performance (along with a scene at the end of the first act) are worth the ticket price alone.
I believe the critics are going to love it, prediction 4 to 5 stars, and you should book a seat sooner rather than later!

I guess someone has to ask, where does mr Whishaw fall on the O'Connell to Mckellen scale? Or does he not get that much kit off? He's not particularly toned just very, VERY skinny. Gets down to his pants but this alone isn't worth sitting through this abysmal play.

Actually I found this quite interesting, though ultimately it didn't lead anywhere, which was a little disappointing. To continue the image, however, I enjoyed the journey whilst wondering where it was going. It was probably longer than it needed to be (and certainly than I could have done with), but I wasn't in the least tempted to bail. I'm not sure what the author was aiming for but for me it was at least a worthwhile experiment and I particularly liked the sly potshots at the culture of political correctness in academia, which produced most of the laughs. I think they had a supportive crowd. And the limited laughs certainly, at least, woke up the woman sitting next to and the woman in front of me.

Play is utter tripe. Whishaw gets his kit off. That's it. You know or you think? Just an opinion following to tonight's performance. We hated it and are really disappointed that we did. We spent a good time trying to find some point to it all but it totally eluded us.

It is pretty much the set that causes the restriction, and the viewing angle.
There is a WHOPPING great dining table in the middle of the stage. This means that you are practically underneath it in row AA. Not much better in BB.
Angle of such means that if anyone is sat behind it, which happens a lot, Thier faces are often totally obscured.
This is my opinion I suppose and I'd be interested to see if others agree.
For the price they are quite acceptable, however.
Do report back everyone!

Quick question: if I book balcony seats via TodayTix, what are the chances of being upgraded to somewhere lower? I was hoping to get the good half price deals they were doing on TT but they seem to have disappeared now, and I seem to remember that the balcony and sometimes even grand circle are closed due to low sales? We considered this but glad we didn't as all levels were open at today's matinee.
