I adored the show. I adored Dean and think he is an absolute feast for the eyes and ears, the tone of his voice really appeals to me. I thought the whole show was an amazing spectacle full of humour and great songs. It was always my favourite Disney animated movie so it had a lot to live up to for me. Genie was fantastic and Friend Like Me is an incredible production number. I didn't think Jafar was too pantomime or anything, but my one issue is his really rushed ending. I felt I had the same issue with Ursula in Little Mermaid on Broadway, in that their demise is just so understated and quick! I wish they used some theatre magic to make Jafar a bit threatening Genie/Snake and it would have added something amazing to a great show.
I will definitely revisit the show if I can and I'll do anything to see Dean in something anyway, right from From Here to Eternity, Sister Act, Songs for a New World, Miss Atomic Bomb, and now this.

I wish I could get up there again before it closes. It's such an extraordinary show anyway but this production is equally extraordinary and jam packed full of emotion. I had teared up many times and it's a show that always has a huge impact on me, leaving me gutted, especially in All The Wasted Time... A gorgeous song that paves the way for the devastation. Amazing cast and production and I really wish I could get back up next week!

I think they're avoiding the word "theatre" so 'The Other Palace' can refer to the OTHER Victoria Palace and the OTHER Buckingham Palace, both around the corner.

It's not just news sites, Disney have announced this yesterday officially (see their Twitter etc). Looking forward to this, 2.5 years to build anticipation!

I've booked for next Friday now, can't wait. I adore this show and can't wait to see this production. I was hoping to train back to Nottingham but I don't think I'd make it, so will need to drive! Thanks for the seating tips, I'll head for the long row. I don't think I've ever been as emotionally gut wrenched by a show as when I first saw this show. The music couldn't be more perfect for each moment throughout.

I hate asking this boring question... But what time were you out of the theatre? I'd like to book a train home but may end up driving if I can't get one late enough. Thanks.

Surely you're joking? That Katharine McPhee who has such a thin and breathy voice? That Katharine McPhee who can't act? Who has dead eyes? Who is outsung by Megan Hilty each and every time? I'm still gutted that her version of Don't forget me made it to the Smash soundtrack. It's so painful to listen to that version. Megan's was so much better. Why would anyone want to see her in anything? Not even if they paid me. I actually think she outsung Megan Hilty Seriously?!

For a touring production I'm actually really impressed with the car. It's the interval in Nottingham now and I thought the Act 1 close was amazing. Yes it's a little jittery when people are getting off and on, but it moved perfectly in sync with the projections and music. Looking forward to Act 2.

I apologise for the tedious question, but as I'm trying to book trains... Can anyone let me know what time they were out of the theatre for an evening performance? I normally book latest train back from London but the website does says it is a 2hour 15min performance?

I'm going to have to try and get up to Manchester as this is my favourite show and it doesn't come along very often. It's also quite a hard sell as a show so I hope it does well.

No need to be scared. It was handled really profesionally. You wouldn't have noticed there are usually three girls if you hadn't known it. I saw the show many times in London, just a bit worried it won't be the reminisce I'm looking for, with all the changes For me, it wasn't the changes that limited my reminiscing of the west end show, rather the bland energy and flatness of it unfortunately.

I really enjoyed myself with the show. As for positives, the production looked great and had some great casting (Jon & Jamal most notably). Although Lucie had a great vocal, I didn't feel she had the comedic chops and didn't laugh once at her / with her performance. I was not a fan of the Paulette casting choice either. Or Callahan. The feeling I was left with was "flat". The whole experience felt flat and like something was missing. Maybe I was spoilt with the westend production, but I also preferred the touring version and the production at Kilworth House last year. The Curve stage is fairly epic if you don't fill it, and I think this version could do with a smaller stage. I just didn't get much chemistry between the cast. In fact, just seeing Jamal made me long to see Bend It again! Although that all might sound fairly negative, I did enjoy it and hope it does well and hope the cast grow into the show.

It may have something to do with the fact the show is closing next month, but when I saw Billy yesterday it was the most I've ever enjoyed it and had the biggest impact on me it ever has. It somehow jumped into my top bunch of shows yesterday despite me having seen it a number of times already. The boy playing Billy was INCREDIBLE, as was Michael. It got me tearful quite a number of times. Can anybody answer how different the touring set is or how they do the house/bedroom etc? I'm guessing that and the miners descending might be the only things that would need to be done differently?

I was at the final show this evening. I do really love the show, and it was my third time, so not particularly objective about tonight. It was an emotional one. The cast, specifically Jamal Andréas, were very emotional and crying towards the end (impacted vocals a little, but that's forgiven for me!). Gurinder came on before and after the show, and Howard Goodall at the end. Guru see face a heartfelt speech about "People Like Us" song meaning something and her family and dad being the inspiration for the show and that song and philosophy. She felt "People Like Us" can't have shows in the west end (as easily) and that there have been many requests for the show regionally and internationally, so is intending on travelling the show. I for one think it's a real shame this has left the west end now. I know many on here disagree, but I think it was a little gem and I also love playing the score on my piano too. It was a shame Preeya wasn't on as her replacement didn't quite have the comic timing and attitude she did, but still good. Really engaged and responsive audience full of creatives too.

Is it worth seeing now the Glass Lift has been 'toned down'? I still had a decent time at the show, but it was more than the elevator that disappointed. For me it felt much flatter in terms of energy as a show. If you do go, be prepared for a really underwhelming elevator that makes you wish that moment wasn't even in the show! It feels very amateurish but this maybe because I'm comparing it to previous incarnation.

That link doesn't bring up a site for me... What did/does it say about the production or venues?

It really left me flat last week after I'd enjoyed it so much three years ago. It seemed to have lost a lot of energy and that elevator... I can't quite get over how underwhelming that "new" elevator is!

I needn't had worried about all the role swapping. There's no way I would have known as the performances were incredible. I didn't know the graffiti role was supposed to be male at all. I guess if it was a male, the supporting cast would have been more balanced with two females and two males dancing as ensemble? I loved this show. The energy was great and I now want to own the music and see it again! The only issue for me was my neighbour dancing heavily in her seat which caused mine to bounce throughout which was somewhat distracting! Glad she enjoyed it but a little frustrating for me.
Not sure what the half hour delay was for, but I want to revisit and really liked the theatre set up too.

So just out of Charlie tonight...
Firstly, it was packed. I was in the balcony and that was completely full. Trouble with the balcony is EVERYBODY leaning forward!
I saw Charlie when it first opened and really enjoyed it.
I've got to say I'm completely underwhelmed this evening. It was pleasant and I didn't dislike it, but some things that have changed left me deflated. Particularly the elevator. I could hardly tell if the elevator went up more than 2 or 3 feet, but other than that just clunkily went from left to right, then back again. You can see the platform it's wheeled out on throughout it's "flight" and the elevator doesn't angle at all. It's just upright and moves slowly across and back again. I really liked the elevator when it opened and it was somewhat momentous for the second act, but now it's a non event. It also sounded like Wonka's songs were modulated down a couple of keys and notes that were written to be held or belted, were definitely not.
There was an Oompa Loompa missing, the grandparents' bed didn't move around like it used to. Crew came on a couple of times to wheel things that used to be automated (from my recollection). Some glitter fell before Violet's song even starts.
I do really like the TV scenes of golden tickets being found but the lyrics are very hard to hear for most of them.
I almost wish I'd not gone again so I could preserve my initial experience. Still enjoyable but it's come down a few notches for me.
And that elevator?!!

I'm waiting to see this right now and they've announced a delay to the start due to "unforeseen circumstances" and there are five roles being played by other people than listed. I love the theming and ambience around the bar / waiting area.

I'm there tomorrow matinee too (Tues). Just had a quick look on the ATG tickets website and there aren't a huge number left at all, only a handful. Maybe half term means bigger audiences. I'm really looking forward to catching the show as it's not often I see something I'm unfamiliar with.

I can't find anything about a UK tour for this year. I can see the Blackpool dates but I'm assuming this is just a local production, like the many others that are being produced. If I'm wrong, signpost me to the right link or info as I would love to see another professional production but I'm doubtful this is it.

Where are you seeing that this is a BK production? I can't find anything about this tour. I know there are a number of amateur productions but I'd love to see a professional production again.

Sorry if this is a really simple thing... Is there a setting I need to change to make sure when I click on a thread that it takes me to the last reply I've read? At the moment it goes to page one each time for each thread. Thanks. There's a "New" label marking threads that have new posts since your last visit. Clicking on that label takes you to the first new post. That's great. Thank you for that. But if I want to look at a thread from where I left off and there aren't any new posts since I last looked...? Thanks again.

Thinking back it probably was a thinner sound than ideal for the orchestra, but nothing too jarring considering the style of music. First time at the Lowry and really liked the theatre and the whole area really.
