Saw this tonight and I absolutely loved it. The score was really great, especially the first song (I'm an Islander i think) and the pilot song. Jenn Colella really stood out. It was much funnier than I expected it to be, and definitely not a musical about 9/11 as some people described it to me. The house was full and everyone leap to their feet at the end, probably the strongest audience reaction I've seen to a Broadway show since Color Purple last year.

I agree with her that it's disrespectful to ask someone to step out of their role and allow a bigger celeb to come in, but at the same time the producers have an obligation to investors to make the show as successful as possible, and she knows that.
Anyway I have tickets to Oak's last show on August 13th (at a huge discount) which could also end up being closing night too. The atmosphere should be special, but I have no idea what to expect of the show itself.

Interesting that Cynthia Erivo is now getting a lot of hate from the Broadway community for implying in her tweets that this was race related and contributing to the backlash. She really is destroying her reputation on both sides of the atlantic now.

Sounds like there was a lot on non-financial issues on top of this. The MD tweeted that he was left responsible for printing sign-in sheets for the cast so it seems like a very poorly organised tour.

Sara Bareilles pretty much confirmed a Spring 2018 transfer by quoting someone saying she was thrilled and seconds later deleted the tweet. I have a screenshot but don't know how to post it here.

I wonder how Willemijn feels today after almost 10 years of playing Elphaba she's leaving. She's also 42 now so this is probably (?) her last time playing the role.

Saw it this week. Stalls was less than 75% full and upper two levels closed, but it's a big theatre. I thought it was a fun, enjoyable show not to be taken seriously and if you can get a cheap ticket it's worth going to. The book was awful, like a pantomime (but not funny) and horrifically cheesy, to the point where there was no way the cast could deliver some of the lines without sounding ridiculous. But I was impressed with the score, sets and cast. Kerry Ellis did keep tucking her hair behind her ears. She also needs a longer shirt in Act 1 because she spent a lot of time trying to stop it lifting up and showing her stomach. But her voice was incredible and she got huge applause on some of her money notes. Michelle Pentecost as Mad Hatter was great, would have liked to see Natalie McQueen too as i've heard good things. And I was presently surprised by Wendy Peters. She really has a great voice and I'd love to see her take on more theatre roles.

Does anyone know who is playing Alice next week in Dublin? The posters and twitter have Kerry advertised but she tweeted that she'll be doing West End Live next Saturday in London. It will be Michelle Pentecost. On the website, it has a list of the venues each of the leads is performing in and Dublin is not on Kerry or Rachael's lists. Thanks for that. Bit unprofessional that the official Wonderland twitter tweeted out that Kerry would be doing it. Looking forward to seeing Michelle though.

Wow, she was awesome! She also reminded me a lot of an existing Elphaba, but I just can't quite put my finger on which one! Sounds like Dee Roscioli to me.

I loved that they filmed Les Mis in London as the setting was appropriate with the time period, so we got loads of west end cameos. Sadly I imagine Wicked will be filmed in a studio in LA or something so we won't see our favourite performers appearing as citizens of oz.

I know others will disagree but I think Lady Gaga would be better than Nicole. She's a huge name, has a Golden Globe for acting, and can sing live:

Lovely smooth check in with @british_Airways @heathrowairport. Shanghai bound for a little reunion with my green friend 💚
Can anyone explain? Is she coming back?

There has been rumours for years that they never got along, but Kristin said in an interview she basically got along but had very different processes. Here it is, if you want to watch it:
Ooh brilliant thank you, will give it a watch. What i've read on Broadway world board (pure speculation) is that Idina said in an interview before the Tonys that she hoped the voting committee will take into account the fact that some performers (her) rarely miss shows. This could have been seen as a diss at Kristin who had missed a lot more than Idina due to her injuries. She then said to Kristin before the show that she said something in an interview which could come across as shady towards Kristen and Kristin wasn't happy. I remember the poster saying they had a screaming match before the start of the show. This should all be taken with a pinch of salt obviously. There was also whispers at the time that Kristin was furious at the Wicked producers as she felt they were pushing for Idina to win the tony rather than Kristin. But again this is all speculation.

I can't believe they'd say someone would definitely go on to be lead. Would depend how they got on and the audience reaction etc. They'd say the potential to get that role is there but any more than that before they've even started? I can't see it. They did it with Kerry Ellis in 2006. Either way I'm hoping for someone new. The last exciting Elphaba was when we found out Louise was making the switch from Glinda to Elphaba.
