What sort of seats were they offering in the NT Friday rush? Debating whether to try for that or the £30 TodayTix rush

Won the £30 lottery today, got an amazing seat in row E, rake is excellent and the people in front didn’t get in my way at all. I did also spot a few hours before the show that there were a bunch of seats left on the seating plan when trying to book regularly that had all been reduced to £30 including seats which are usually top price.
I thought this was fantastic, probably the most engrossed I’ve been in a play this year. The performances were outstanding. I’m glad I haven’t replied to the ‘top 5’ thread yet, this is definitely going to be in mine.

For anyone entering, my lottery ticket tonight was right in the middle of row J of the dress circle.

Looks like there’s a new Facebook advert featuring some clips from the show going around since yesterday, now includes ‘strictly limited season’ underneath it, so presume that confirms no extension which is a big shame.

Conversely I saw the show over a week ago and haven't been able to get the songs out of my head. Hoping they'll release the rest of the cast recording in time for opening night tomorrow!

Really disappointing selection of seats available for £10 this year. My queue number was in the low hundreds so I got in after 10 minutes. Most of the stalls and stage stalls were still showing as full price. Managed to get some £10 seats in the dress circle, but only those mostly behind pillars with rail in eyeline or on the sides were £10. Previous years it seemed that pretty much the whole auditorium was £10, and I've managed to get amazing stalls and on stage seats (including the little individual row right in the middle of the stage) in the past, but those are all £70+ today.

I echo all the praise that’s been shared so far, I loved everything about this. Wonderful cast, effective staging, beautiful lighting, quite a lot of proper belly laughs and a really heartwarming story. I don’t think there were any dud songs for me too - I loved them all and can’t wait for a full cast recording. I sobbed throughout but left with a big smile on my face.
If I had to be really picky I think they could do with covering up the lift mechanism for the central part of the stage, it was a bit distracting.
I know there are some people on here that ask about loud noises - there are some towards the end of the second act which I was not expecting at all and really made me jump.
(Anthony were you wearing a green shirt? I was going to say hello but was on the opposite side)

I’ve also booked for Tuesday based on these initial reviews - the producers should be giving you lot commission!

Was also there on Friday for the abandoned performance. I made the smart decision to get some rain ponchos on amazon in advance which were perfect for the drizzle which they powered through for about an hour of the show. We were probably 90% of the way through before they had to abandon, and I was actually secretly thrilled. I loved the 90% we saw SO much I am very excited to see it all again for free next week thanks to the weather exchange policy! I wasn’t sure if they had a limit where if you see ‘most’ of the show the policy doesn’t apply, but it doesn’t look like it - our tickets were rebooked with no hesitation.
Definitely one of my highlights of the year so far, and one of the best things I’ve ever seen at this theatre.

Well out of the 10 times I managed to see this new run the audience last night was probably the best - it was obvious the entire theatre was full of super fans! Extended applause after every song, and a standing ovation that felt like it went on for 10 minutes after everyone left the stage at the end. My tinnitus was going crazy when I was trying to get to sleep last night!
Andy was noticeably emotional during Seeing You which resulted in me having to mop my cheeks when that snow started falling.
I’ve loved having this show back in town and achieved my mission of taking all of the friends and family that I’d promised to take since 2016. I don’t want to tally up how much I’ve spent (glad to have played a significant part in contributing to the box office record! 😂), but it was worth every penny. I genuinely can feel that my mental health has improved over the summer after having spent sharing so many evenings sharing something I adore with the people I care most about. For me, this show is perfect and represents everything I love about theatre.
Was slightly disappointed there wasn’t any announcement at the end, but I’m keeping hopeful they’ll announce a tour or a transfer soon

Worth trying the lottery on TodayTix too. I entered recently for the first time in years and won first time, might have just been very lucky or there might not be many entering these days

New trailer just dropped on social media - not sure why they didn’t release this weeks ago! Some weird choices made with regards to editing of the music, but this is much better than those rehearsal videos to try and tempt those handful of friends I have left that I haven’t taken to see it yet!
Regarding prices every day is totally different, but they do tend to drop prices a couple of days in advance, then sometimes again first thing in the morning, and then later in the day. As an example a seat I sat in front stalls for £39 on Monday 2 weeks ago is currently £65.50 today. In my experience in person at the box office don’t offer anything different to what you see on the website.

Tried on 2 devices, initially I was shown queue numbers but then the numbers disappeared after a few seconds. On one was over 3000 and the other I was number 150 in the queue, got to the front at about 12:20. Friday and Saturday were sold out, there were a few singles dotted around rows F and G in the stalls and royal circle for dates earlier in the week. Didn't end up buying any, I'm going to try again for the next few weeks and hold out for can can seats - it says in the email that can can seats are included in the lottery.

Looks like I need to book my 11th visit to catch some of these understudies! Oh, don't.... I've basically moved into the Old Vic since May... Hope you’re making good use of the new OV loyalty scheme! A couple of my visits so far have been free, and I’ve got enough points saved up now for another free £50 ticket!

On Monday Billy Nevers got injured in the first act and was replaced for the second act. Looked pretty bad and looks like he’s still off. Also looks like the understudy for Nancy was meant to be on tonight too.

Really enjoyed this last night. Some really catchy songs and the cast were all excellent and bursting with energy. Nothing particularly groundbreaking but a fun and nostalgic evening.
Even though it’s 18 years since I stayed in halls of residence (yikes!) I recognised every character and every plot point mirrored my uni experience almost exactly.
We were out at 10pm, though it did start a few minutes late.
The staff at this theatre are also always delightful and make it a pleasure to visit.

Thanks for the review darreno. Might check this out tomorrow. I can’t see a running time listed anywhere, can you share how long it was? Thanks!

Really enjoyed this tonight! I thought it was well written and had a good pace. The performances felt so natural and the chemistry between Mckellen and Allam was believable. Quite a few belly laughs but also very touching. They’ve both obviously found their stride as this felt very slick. Simple but effective set.
I could see this having a short run in the West End provided they scrap that awful artwork - it really didn’t represent the piece well at all.
Only disappointment was that though there is a ‘theatre dog’ listed in the programme they don’t make an appearance on stage.

African accents are used all around except for 1 American accent. There weren't any references that I didn't get. It's set in 1986 and the only one that might be missed by younger viewers is knowing who Bobby Brown is, but it's not really that important.

Still no day rate, but they've just dynamically priced all seats down for tonight. Big chunk of the stalls now £39

LOVED this tonight. Wonderful characters and loads of belly laughs.
Even on a relatively cool day like today the theatre was unbearably hot - thought I’d chance it and break my rule of never visiting the Lyric in the summer, but I don’t think I’ll be breaking that rule again.

In the Empire film podcast from 8th June Tim, Danny & Matthew talk extensively about how they made this new production specifically so that it could tour, and their ultimate hopes are for an extended West End run, a tour and international productions (Tim said there are Australian producers that are interested). They also discussed how initially they can't imagine anyone else playing Phil but they are sure they would find someone else, similarly to how they never imagined anyone else could ever play Matilda but there have since been hundreds.
Would definitely recommend giving the podcast episode a listen!
In other news, looks like the £40 'day rate' is no more ☹️ They weren't offering it on any of the days I checked last week, and it's not available today despite about a quarter of the stalls still being unsold.

For those wanting slightly cheaper tickets, they seem to have introduced a "day rate" at £40. Pretty good considering the normal prices. Where do i find these? Couldn't see them on the website this morning. If you choose any seat it gives you a list of prices for that seat (full price, under 16s, senior citizen), for todays performance one of those options should say ‘day rate - £40’

Anyone know if they reduce tickets on the day like they do for other productions? They’ve been doing a lot of dynamic pricing nearer the time of the show. For example for tonight’s show the premium seats in the stalls are £72.50 instead of the usual £150. I picked up a front row centre ticket for tonight for £50 instead of the £90 it is later in the run.

I think I’ve listened to the 1 song they’ve released about 30 times so far today. Very catchy! However if you’d told me this was a cut song from Dear Evan Hansen I would probably believe you.

I'm going to book this but I'd love to know {Spoiler - click to view} Do they still have the guy in the Groundhog suit appearing during a dance sequence playing on a drum kit during the second act? Yes! It gets a big laugh every time

With the car chase it doesn’t help the puppet section when they play it so far down stage, you can see everyone doing their thing, sticks and everything. It used to be further upstage and harder to make out the actors, the theatricality of it was tighter as a result. That fairground waltzer scene is completely unnecessary without the revolve now, before it really made sense, now it’s just 2 minutes of “oo look fairy lights and these chairs spin” there’s no real choreography to it. Cut it and restore the full ‘There will be Sun’ at the top of the show. I have to disagree with the waltzer scene. I think they’ve improved it throughout the previews - last night when I was watching it I could really see how they had lit up Phil’s face from within the ride car, and you could see how he was staring at Rita with admiration with a big smile on his face while she was enjoying herself. It really felt like at that moment he had fallen totally in love with her. It’s probably the most beautifully staged scene in the show too with the curtain lights
