Looks like this is touring next year. I can find dates so far for Manchester, Birmingham, Torquay and Folkestone: www.atgtickets.com/shows/dreamboats-and-petticoats/This is the third instalment in the series, but I didn't see the first two musicals so I don't know how easy it will be follow! But quite an achievement. There aren't that many musical trilogies out there. |

Happy to see this, the show/series is a guilty pleasure of mine!
Elizabeth Carter and David Ribi are on the new artwork on ATG so that may be a clue as to who will be playing Bobby and Laura. Elizabeth has played Laura in both previous Dreamboats shows (and the lead in sister show Save The Last Dance for Me) while David has performed as Bobby before in the original show.
Tickets booked for Manchester.

Thanks for clarification. I've seen the concert with Marty Wilde before but it didn't have a Dreamboats and Petticoats tag. Bound to cause confusion as it has for ATG whose listing includes two tour weeks and two Marty Wilde one nighters.

Confusing indeed! I hadn't even realised that as well as a concert version, there had already been two of the musical. One I saw and enjoyed in London some years ago but now I don't know whether it was the first or the second. I don't suppose it matters so far as seeing the third is concerned but now, of course, I'm wondering which one I missed and why. Though if there's no way of telling from the title, no wonder and I'm probably not the only person puzzled.

As I recall the original show had music from 1959 - 1962, the Miniskirts follow up mainly 1963 - 1966 and this one looks to be set in the late 1960s as Bringing On Back was a hit for the Love Affair in around 1968.

This show is at the 633 seat Theatre Royal Windsor from Wednesday 23rd February until Saturday 5th March. Bill Kenwright manages that theatre and it's his show so I'm guessing this is the first venue for the tour. 13 performances over 11 days which adds up to over 8000 seats to fill.
The title is taken from the latest CD in the Dreamboats and Petticoats series. It's a four CD box set with tracks from early 1960s to the early 1970s but the show info refers to "songs from the golden era of rock'n'roll" so could be set any time in the 1960s.

Saw this at Windsor this afternoon. Storyline is implausible and just there to lead to each of the musical numbers, which are very well performed creating a great atmosphere at an almost full auditorium. Very much like the successful That'll Be The Day show which tours almost constantly. Music from 1959-1969, all well known hits.The four CD set with the same title might be expected to include all the tracks featured in the show but there are actually only about half.
Mark Wynter has a leading role as Larry the wealthy promoter and also performs a medley of his three biggest hits. He's looking and singing well at 79. Bobby and Laura are indeed played by David Ribi and Elizabeth Carter.
Recommended if you like 1960s music. Tour dates for the next few months have now been confirmed and put on sale but they are still combined on some booking websites with one nighters starring Marty Wilde in a completely different concert show - though in which Mark Wynter also appears !

That list will hopefully be updated soon. It's scheduled 11-16 July at the Churchill Theatre Bromley so there are probably other venues booked after April. |

An enjoyable show last night in Bromley with a busy audience. I haven't seen any of the previous tours, but that didn't matter. This has one of the weakest plots I've ever seen (a band end up in Butlins and relationship hilarity ensues) and a horrible script, but the cast of actor-musicians just keep playing, smiling and dancing.
The lead, Bobby, is played by reality TV star Jacob Fowler (looking very different to his recent role as JD in Heathers). We had Chloe Edwards-Wood covering Laura, who was fine, but doesn't have that much to do. Joseph Lukehurst stands out vocally as Norman, but everyone is good.
The highlight, really, is the always excellent David Benson as Kenneth Williams, complete with audience interaction and all the mannerisms. And, of course, somehow they find a role for Mark Wynter to sing his hits (with everything sang and performed live, as the voiceover at the start of the show announces). But, it is easy to work in any songs they have the rights for here, since these just happen to be what the Conquest band is performing during their shows.
I expect this will never tour again (although there may well be D&P 4, 5 etc, as long as they can find new songs to release), so catch it while you can!
