Nadim is very cute, and a lovely voice.
I’d like to see him in a show I want to watch please, (as in not Phantom or Les Mis)

That was absolutely super. Loved all the singers and the orchestra were fantastic.

I'd now like to really see Jamie Parker doing My Fair Lady at some point, though probably when he looks a bit older.

Higgins doesn't have to be much older than Eliza. Leslie Howard was in his 30s when he made Pygmalion, as was Harry Hadyen Patton in the last MFL on Broadway. It actually plays better when his objectionable attitudes can't be attributed to his age.

I would agree that he doesn't have to be that old but I think that Jamie Parker comes across as quite a bit younger than his actual age & is still quite boyish. Having checked it he's now 41 but to me he reads as more like 30. So I'd want him to have a slightly older "feel" before playing Higgins. Whereas some actors can seem much more mature when they're still in their 30s. I've not seen either Howard or Hadden-Paton as Higgins but having seen them on screen in other roles I'd say that to me both would come across as more mature than Parker if you could line up the three of them at the same age.

A younger Higgins and an older Eliza does change the dynamic somewhat.

It gets rid of that older man seeking to control younger woman which is never comfortable to watch.
I thought how old Jamie Parker was looking... and how he would be great casting for the ENO MFL.

The less said about Mr Peters performance of Luck be a Lady the better.
The BBC did everyone favour by hiding his final phrase.

Was the recent NYC revival of My Fair Lady due to come over pre pandemic, or did I dream that? That was no loss to the West End!

Gotta be better than Be More Chill/Heathers/Pretty Woman/The Lion Kiddy Popcorn Party etc etc etc.... Don't think I've seen it since the glorious Cam Mac/Trevor Nunn(?) Drury Lane version!

What a glorious evening, especially the Fair Lady section.

Agreed! Would love to see Katie Hall back on stage playing one of these classic roles. Cosette never served her well, and it wasn’t until I saw her as Maria in WSS that I appreciated her gorgeous voice.

That was no loss to the West End! It’s still coming. 2022 It better get a decent Eliza then. Laura Benanti is a good singer but she was not a good Eliza. Though frankly I'd take almost anyone who can do the accent properly! It's an unnecessary production though - there was nothing fresh or overly interesting about it, just a standard My Fair Lady I'd seen half a dozen times before, with fairly good sets.

It wasn’t a patch on the National Theatre Production.
Plus it will be a touring version so even the impressive Higgins set will be a much smaller event.

I’ve never seen MFL on stage so a classic production with a lovely cast would deffo get me down to London, or seeing a tour. I’m sure many would feel the same given that it’s an iconic film. I can appreciate that for those who have seen it many times that sort of production would be less appealing but I suppose that’s the reason OAT are updating Carousel? I’m sure there’s room for both approaches.

I'm watching this on the iPlayer now, but it's also on Radio 2 I think, with added Elaine Paige.
I'm a big FNIMN fan, so it's lovely to know what Richard Balcombe looks like! And see the instruments in the BBC Concert Orchestra. (And the rather handsome leader!)

I've just worked out why Katie Hall looked so familiar. I had a nagging feeling I recognised her!
She was in some of the early episodes of I'd Do Anything. She must have only been 16 or 17 then.

What has your ‘estimated time of arrival’ got to do with any of this? I think it has been lovely so far and the talky bits just give some background to the songs. Or perhaps this uncomplicated BBC2 viewer isn’t getting it? Not enjoying the pronunciation of meadow as ‘medder’ but it’s only to be expected on such a lowbrow channel I suppose. 😘 "Edited to add". I'm being driven up the wall by the talking between every single number. Why can't they just be quiet & let the music do the talking? I'm almost as much annoyed by the camerawork. Usually filmed versions of live events are marketed as giving you a better view than being in the audience. The Proms must be the only one that gives you a worse view, by keeping on having shots from up at the very top of the RAH! I'm currently listening to repeat of the first night on radio 3. It's a delayed start due to an artists cuff link. Now that is padding from the presenters, it's also sounds like a Victoria Wood sketch...

I once arrived for a conference in Bridlington without my cufflinks. I thought I was going to have to sew myself into my dress shirt, but thankfully Burtons came to the rescue. We'll miss Monty now he's gone.

Finally got around to watching this. Wish I had actually gone to see it now. It is so good. Jamie Parker would be perfect for Henry Higgins at the ENO next year. Some others on here have said they didn't like the commentary between musical numbers. I actually really enjoyed that bit and there were some interesting stories especially from Bonnie and all the people she has worked with. Was the event not sold to capacity or did it just not sell well as there were so many empty seats which you rarely see at a Proms concert. Maybe people are still reluctant to attend these things. Also it's great to see the singers perform without the score in their hands. I know they probably have autocue in front of them but it's great to see. I've attended so many concert performances where the cast have performed with the score and it does annoy me slightly that they haven't learnt the part to be able to perform without it.

Both, I believe. There were loads of seats available on the day, including the bargain price day seats. I was also very tempted but I just couldn't change my day around to attend. It came across really well on TV.

Well this was the perfect cure for my post-London blues.
I rather enjoyed the asides and anecdotes from Katie et al, but with all three of them holding a pile of cards as thick as a telephone directory, I suspect they were well rehearsed and far from spontaneous.
I'm even prepared to overlook the pumps being worn by one of the cellists, Neil Brand's 'brave' choice of jacket and the length of the trousers on both Nadim Naaman and Jamie Parker. Between them, they had an unnecessary eight inches! 🙂
With tickets so easy to come by this year, it's a real shame the audience in the Hall wasn't larger.
Five stars from me.
