I'm beginning to think that I'm old fashioned...
Every so often on here we get a request. Someone asking for recommendations, that sort of thing. They might be asking for advice about restaurants near to a particular theatre, bed-time reading suggestions, travel tips, or just some reassurance that they've bought the right seat in the auditorium.
And because many of us are helpful souls we respond: we Google Map the little tapas bar we visited as we can't remember its name but it was very good; we go to the bookshelf in the spare bedroom so we can check the author of the superb History of the Musical we read some years ago; we trawl Tripadvisor for the name of the canal we wandered along in Paris, off the beaten track. And good old Monkey climbs to the highest branch to scratch his head once more and informs us that there is a pillar but it's only a little one.
So if someone bothers to respond to your request, isn't it only polite to say, "Thank you"? Just to acknowledge it?
In the words of Mr Ebb: "Whatever happened to 'Please may I?' and 'Yes thank you' and 'How charming'...?
Like Velma and Mama Morton, perhaps I'm just old fashioned.

Keep your zipadeedoodahs to yourself Mister Monkey!
And I must say that while obviously we get a few rude types on here, the amount of DMs thanking me or generally making supportive comments about something (here or in life or whatever) far, far outweigh the negative.
Of course it's polite to say a thank you to folks who help out. I've not noticed people not doing so, but of course it's the decent thing to do. I think between us regulars who know each other a 'like' is shorthand for 'ta very much' to a fairly benign request like 'what time does x go on sale' or whatnot. Obviously a proper thank you is decent for more in-depth stuff, but hopefully we mostly manage it?

Alas, Mr Ebb didn't mention a "like" in his witty, pertinent lyrics so I couldn't quote that. No, not even a "like"... (And I bet they don't even say oops When they're passing their gas... )

So if someone bothers to respond to your request, isn't it only polite to say, "Thank you"? Just to acknowledge it? I permit you to live after I have no further use for you. Is that not enough? More seriously, I think that when there are many potential readers of a message it's sometimes better not to post a message that means nothing to all but one of the recipients. It shows up for everyone as an update to the discussion so they rush off to see what wonderfully exciting addition to the conversation has been made and ... oh. One message of thanks to everyone after a suitable interval is OK, but it starts to annoy me when someone makes a point of individually replying to every single post.

I feel bad, because I started a topic asking for advice and haven’t replied to it since and if I’m honest, I forgot I started it because I asked the same on Facebook and I get notifications for that.
Apologies all.

It's never too late to say 'Thank you'...

I love this song. It is very velvety. Everything apart from the line about passing gas. Also, it has Bebe Neuwirth.

It is a fine song indeed, but what's your objection to the line about passing gas? I mean, we all do that. (And I always remember to say, "Oops!")
I could understand it more if you didn't like the touching privates for a deuce line. (Only a few of us have done that!)
