I am From New Zealand is it over the top to go to Broadway/ West End every year? When there are so many other places to see?

Not if it is something that gives you pleasure. If I could use my holiday time doing that I would do so.

Nope it's not normal.
How many friends and family think I am out and out weird because I love theatre. I should be going to a football match with a scarf around my neck or watching Eastenders, please!
However I am happy to be not 'normal' and 'weird', if it means I am doing something I love.

Not if there is something you want to see. I'm in Sydney & travel to London most years for shows, usually for about 2 weeks. Off again in a few weeks. And I was in NY this time last year specifically to see a show. If you have the money & time off work , why not use it doing something you enjoy? Having said this, I have already been to a lot of other places in the world (other than London & NYC). If you are concerned that you might be missing out on other things, maybe combine a trip to NYC/London with a stopover along the way ( Asia/Middle East/Africa/Europe). Or you can always take side trips to Europe from London or Canada/Mexico from NYC. Just a suggestion.  |

I ask this because I want to see Harry Potter. I went last year to (Broadway )thinking this season would be a bit of a dud. I went to see a small show called Hamilton!!! with the OBC . I a questioning going next year to see Harry Potter and Dreamgirls next year. Or going to see Singita in South Africa or Thailand.

I live in Germany. I am in London about once a month (sometimes more) and travel to New York 3-4 times a year. So to answer your question: No, I think it's perfectly reasonable. ;-)
Obviously this does limit me in terms of other holidays. My last non theatre related holiday was in 2014 (Maldives - dreamy). But then theatre is my number one hobby and I would choose it over a "regular" holiday every time.
Sometimes I do get to combine visiting a new place AND watching theatre. For example, I'm off to Shanghai at the end of the month. Never been to China so that will be exciting. Plus I'm going to see Punchdrunk's new production of Sleep No More so that's theatre sorted as well.

I also travel the UK every month but then I do see theatre more often than not. In these circumstances I try to schedule the visit to coincide with something I really want to see.
I agree that: a) it's not normal and b) if you enjoy it, sod 'em!

Shanghai is amazing - I was there in 2010 when there was an Expo - you'll love it. Sadly didn't get to see any theatre.

Shanghai is quite great indeed - when it isn't smoggy. I didn't bother going up the Oriental Pearl Tower because the view from up there was nil anyway, but there's a nice exhibition of Old Shanghai in the basement. My China trip was mostly planned around Beijing and sights like the Forbidden City and the Great Wall, with Shanghai and nearby Suzhou a nice addition.
If I want to see a country, I travel for the country and don't care much about theatre there... I get my theatre fix in London from time to time, but I have plenty of other interests that want feeding too, especially history.

I agree, most holidays aboard that I take are for the location first and foremost. If, however, there is theatre to be seen then it usually features. I'm on my third trip to NY in two years, because I fell in love with it. I think that subconsciously Broadway has played a large part in that. Also going to DC for a tour of Ford's theatre and a performance of Ragtime, hopefully.
