They had already borrowed cast from other shows to try and go ahead, must have been borderline and then one more person went ill. I hardly think they would want to cancel

Karl Queensborough is back to play Alexander Hamilton today. There were a lot of covers on for the matinee yesterday, including borrowing previous cast from other shows as mentioned above. I would imagine the announcement of the cancellation didn’t come much after the decision was made that the performance would have to be cancelled.

Also it's live theatre, things will and do go wrong. To say it's disgusting is hyperbole.

Jay Perry returning as Aaron Burr too.
This is only speculation, but due to Covid protocols, a lot more actors are having to be taken off the show when they’d otherwise have tried to perform.

Wow they must really be struggling. They normally have 4 Hamiltons and 3 Burrs in the building or something along those lines!

I’ve not seen the current Hamilton or Burr yet (booked to go next year), but if audiences are getting to see Queensborough and Perry they’re in for a great show!

DISGUSTED cancelled without Amy notice STILLno txt overall NORHING. Only viewed via twitter. Anyone who thinks.build abridge or these things happen clearly we're not in the queue waiting. Chaos. Truly dreadful. Maybe they didn't know they would have to cancel until the last minute? Why are you waiting for a text if you already know it was cancelled? What do you mean? 'waiting for a text'? your missing the point entirely. Firstly, navigating around London, I do not expect to keep a watchful eye on Musks Twitter and bigbrother Facebook - both of which i have never subscribed too. BUT, had a 'text' or an 'email' come through - at any point in time - i would of received and noted that. MY Gripe is 'they' couldnt be bothered to email or text. Hence the large ( annoyed ) crowd outside theatre at around 7.15pm when we arrived. I have continued to complain. Im sure they didnt want to cancel...but odd that illness all up and running literally within 24hours where the show went on with full capacity!! Disgusted and will never ever watch Hamilton or attend that theatre. I've heard it's not that great anyway.

Not easy roles to step back into after being away a while.

I can't tell if garjobo is being serious or a wind up by saying that the actions of the producers of Hamilton and Delfont were disgusting. Actors aren't robots you know...

I assume he's saying the late notice was disgusting as people were only finding out while already queued.. which, fair enough I'd be pretty annoyed too. Cancelling the performance itself will be an absolute last resort, they won't have done it lightly, and having enough cast the following day bears very little relation to the previous issue however - any number of things can have changed by then, surely no one would begrudge the next days audience having their show go ahead.

I can't tell if garjobo is being serious or a wind up by saying that the actions of the producers of Hamilton and Delfont were disgusting. Actors aren't robots you know... Quick to comment slow to read. You jumped from 'producers' to 'actors'. My 'beef' is with the 'admin' of the theatre, whoever that may be. I'll spell it out for you. If a show is cancelled, then YOU INFORM all those down to attend via email and text heck even phonecall! that it is cancelled!. I NEVER had received any notification to say this was cancelled. Apparently 'if' you checked Twitter or facebook then they posted it there. Instead of 'having a go' understand the fustrations, annoyance, sheer selfishness, stupidy that in 2022 no-one can 'blindcopy' a simple email informing those attending who paid for travel AND TIME to get to the event. I suspect anyone disagreeing with my sentiment, has, (a) never been in that position and/or (b) are the type of annoying people who crackle crisp packets and the like throughout a performance. No need reply, as despite Hamilton not thinking so, but my time is prescious and not wanting to waste anymore time on it!

Theatres ability to communicate cancelled shows is pretty appaling in general to be fair. Its always at a ridiculous last minute when people can't make other plans or have already spent out on transport, and even then they don't have the decency to text and email people. It's customer service basics and there's no excuse in this day and age, especially for such major producers/theatre owners. They should have the systems and processes in place.
Putting things out on social media is not enough as not everyone has that, or if they do they don't likely follow the show. It's lazy.

The live nature of theatre means something can go wrong at the last minute. I would say some theatres are very good at communicating cancellations like the Bridge which was the only cancellation I had last year although oddly I was planning to exchange anyway due to illness the week I was meant to go.

I agree I’d have been very disappointed and frustrated to find the show I was due to attend cancelled at such short notice. I can only assume the late decision was down to something happening last minute, or them working through other options but finding none were viable. They don’t cancel lightly due to not wanting to lose revenue.
To defend the theatre / producers here though - they post these things on social media first and foremost as, like it or not, in 2022 it’s the fastest way to reach as many of those people who need to know as quickly as possible. Yes we don’t all check our socials every 5 minutes so they know not everyone will see it, but posting on Facebook and Twitter is much more time-efficient than sitting down with a list of bookers and their telephone numbers at 6.30pm and starting to make calls. Likewise the logistics of sending a mass text or email, whilst quicker than calling, will take longer than the social post.
I know from my own experience with Hamilton and other shows that when performances have to be cancelled with a little more notice, the communication from most shows / producers / theatres is excellent.

What do you mean? 'waiting for a text'? your missing the point entirely. Clearly they didn't cancel the performance until the last minute. They only posted it on twitter at 6.30pm. The show is amazing and the theatre is gorgeous after it's refurb. Watch it on Netflix instead.

Hamilton - the musical that was cancelled.
So - i am biting the bullet and WILL be seeing this show. Previously booked £100 seating, but as it as cancelled, and refunded no problem, i am not a position to purchase those seats again.
SO, my question to those in the know, who have actually been there and seen the show and sat in the seats is - Stalls - are they raised, unlike BTTF experience where the stalls are not really on much of a raise. And is there a decent place to sit, talking £60 - £80 seatings.
I see a few seatings saying, ' this view will miss walkway' - what does that mean?
The Royal circle from the side..or even a bit towards back. As I know, with Newsies, seating is EVERYTHING, but theres also the cost involved ( although Newsies is very reasonably priced and for front on the left/right side costs only £60 ) - so your thoughts on perhaps a good..but not expensive view. OR, pay the price - as it makes the difference? close up in stalls?

The walkway is probably referring to the raised level along the back and sides of the set. You can see it in pretty much every set picture: image.cnbcfm.com/api/v1/image/105166097-_DSC0005-revised_PEOPLE.jpg?v=1524859089&w=929&h=523&vtcrop=y. Plenty happens here but nothing vital to my recollection, although it's been a long time since I've seen the show. I think I prefer Hamilton, as I prefer Newsies, from further back. A lot is happening and it's difficult to take in the scale of the ensemble numbers from the front of the stalls. Front of the upper circle/grand circle (whatever they call it there) would probably be my choice to balance cost and view here.

My first time seeing Hamilton was from the stalls. Next time was from Grand circle and apart from the awful legroom this was definitely my preferred experience. I think the sweet spot where you're not too far but can see all the cool lighting and get the full experience is from Royal circle. I've sat nearer the back to the side of the Royal circle and this still gave an excellent view and didn't feel too distant from the actors on stage.

thank you both for your reply. Ok the Grand cirlce is it i think. I want to see Hamilton but its not a must-see so to speak, obviously if i love it then thats a case of purchasing again i guess.
Whats this 'fly' newsies from afar..you gotta be joking!!!! yes you see the Spot Collins gang ( who are the weakest element in the show, not the performers of course - certaintly not- but the girl gang just not really given anything to do )

Yes, thirded! Sat front row centre of the Grand Circle when I went and although there’s not much legroom, it’s a great view, and I didn’t feel too far away from the stage. I think we paid about £65/70 so quite cheap by Ham-standards!
Just avoid the centre aisle seat and the next one in - there’s a rail at the foot of the stairs which TheatreMonkey says could intrude on the view a little.

I've had the seat immediately right of the centre aisle and found it didn't really affect my view at all. I'm 5 ft 8 tall though. If you're shorter it may intrude a little.

Dress circle is my go to to appreciate the set and lighting design. I've sat in the Grand Circle once, perhaps row C/D, and that was perfectly fine. Also a central aisle seat and railing didn't hamper my view - 5 ft 5 here. Have they changed the size of the magnet? I picked one up around 2018 and have since passed it on. I've no inclination to see the show again any time soon so I ordered one online (site linked below, not sure if legit though I have purchased from the Creative Goods Broadway shop before) and the magnet feels smaller and lesser quality. westendmerchandiseshop.com/products/hamilton-magnet

Along with the UK tour announcement, looks to be extending for London. Had the DMT+ email for early booking for performances through to 2nd March 2024.

Don’t know why but I just had a feeling this would be touring and would be the palace Christmas show when it was added to the big night of musicals next week. http://instagram.com/p/Co62oPfNaNV

I went to see Hamilton for the first time since the cast changed last summer (late I know), and let's just say I had a...'chaotic' night. I thought I might as well share my experience as my misery might bring others some entertainment.
The show wasn't very well sold tonight being a random Monday, so I got a pretty good stalls seat for £30, about an hour before the show. Unfortunately as little as the audience were, it became quite apparent early on that those who were there had seemingly all come together on a special coach trip for nuisances, who should all be banned from theatre.
I was siting in the aisle seat, so was happily getting out to the aisle to let people into the row before the show started. I didn't have time to eat before hand, so bought some crisps from the bar to eat while I was waiting, and sat them under my seat whenever I had to get out.
It was all going well until I got out to let a couple in, and when the lady got into the row turned to her partner and said 'Oh look, CRISPS!' and proceeded to kick my tube of crisps down the theatre for no reason whatsoever, rolling down about 5 rows. I was absolutely livid, so I ran down and caught them before they hit the orchestra and came back and said 'Is there a reason why you kicked my crisps away?' to which she just replied 'Oh, sorry about that' and started laughing. I've genuinely never experienced anything so ridiculous at a theatre in my life! I thought I had seen it all before, but obviously not.
Unfortunately for me the good times kept on rolling, and about a minute later a lady asked to be let in, but when I got out she walked up to my seat, took off my jacket and started putting all of her stuff down. I pointed out really nicely (But absolutely over it inside) that it was my seat to which she was about to argue with me, before her partner jumped in and said 'Sorry, we're actually a few rows down'. She was apologetic but I suspected she was slightly drunk, and had another pint of beer in her hand.
This couple sadly became more of a focal point than the actors for the rest of the night...They kissed each other repeatedly with the loudest and most horrible smooch sound I've ever heard every two minutes, kept talking extremely loudly and laughing to the point where the steward had to approach them and tell them off four separate times. Every single time they were told off though they found it hilarious and the lady turned to her partner and said 'OOOOooohhh SHHHHHHHHHH' extremely loudly, which was even more distracting. Strangely they weren't asked to leave during the interval and continued to be annoying all night - I just don't understand how some people can have such a lack of respect?
To top it off, a man behind repeatedly kept whistling random tunes during the show and often at quiet times, I was starting to wonder if I was unknowingly taking part in an Ant & Dec wind up for Saturday night TV.
The actual show was great though! I didn't see the cast board, but I'm pretty sure it was the alternate Alex Sawyer on as Hamilton and he was absolutely fantastic. I felt that Shan's voice was slightly tired, but she still sounded great and her version of burn brought the house down.
One person that I wasn't really blown away by was Joel Montague to be honest. I know the king is typically a comedic role, but I found his portrayal slightly panto at times. I just felt that it really clashed with the stellar serious acting that everyone else was doing, but maybe that's not entirely Joel's fault.
Overall the show was in great shape, it's just a shame about the audience!
