The trailer made me really sad because as I mentioned almost two years ago I had a tiny chance of being able to work on this and it didn't happen. Even worse was when I found out a year ago that if I'd sent an email at the right time I would have had the job, oh well, not sure I can watch it in the cinema, too depressing.
However it did make me laugh seeing the location they picked for Mary to land, the bridge should be familiar to people who have seen a late 1960s musical film also aimed at children.

Well the full trailer is out - I don't know if I'm allowed to link it so I wont.
Really exciting - vibrant and full of life! Exactly what I was hoping for if I'm honest (and Emily Blunt looks just wonderful!)

Just watched the new trailer. Magical. Dumb question and the anseer is probably here somewhere but is it a musical or just a straight film?

Had to close my mouth after watching that! It looks magical indeed! That cast too. Really can't wait for this.
Time to rewatch the original and Saving Mr Banks again...

I think it'll be as much a musical as the original was. Enough songs to keep us happy, but not so many that non-musical fans who've been dragged along will be losing the will to live by ten minutes in.
I do have some questions about Emily Blunt's accent though... (But I have no questions about Lin-Manuel Miranda's accent, which he has cheerfully admitted will sound like nothing else on god's green earth and can probably be passed off as some kind of homage to Dick Van Dyke.)

I really like the trailer although it's interesting that it starts dark and gloomy then brightens as soon as Mary appears.
They seem to have kept the elements of the original like the 2D animated sequence.

think i am the only one quite underwhelmed from the trailer looks like a remake from the original, but without the hits will there be a smashing song in it? why not show a bit of it in the trailer? was waiting for a song but nothing really in it

Lots of warming nods to what we expect, but with variations. That's quite an accents she is sporting. What or who is Meryl dressed up as, and how does Angela Lansbury fit in. I'm sure they will get a passing nod to Julie A in somewhere. And have they used a bit of Stiles and Drewe?

In the trailer, there's a moment at the end of the animation section which hints at it. Here's hoping!

Atleast 7 songs have been "heard" on set. screenrant.com/mary-poppins-returns-soundtrack-song-titles/*Can You Imagine That - is Lin's song (or one of atleast). Likely to feat a tap routine.

Just watched the trailer now. It looks great. Hopefully LLM can pull off a decent cockney accent. Hopefully he hasn’t asked dick van dyke for coaching lessons. The animated sequences look really magical and in keeping with the original animation.

Was quite determined to not like this (in a don't want childhood memories spoilt kinda of way) but forced to admit looks good, nice nods to the original and ohh Ben Wishaw AND Emily Mortimer. That is one odd accent though.

It looks good, Emily will be fabulous I'm sure. I'm not looking forward to Lin just because I'm kinda over Lin at the moment, but if he delivers the goods, this could be the thing that brings it back around for me! Also glorious to see Angela Lansbury on screen, and Dick Van Dyke literally looks exactly the same as the original film aged him up to look!

Dame Angela says she's only in it briefly as the balloon lady but she sings (part of?) the final song of the film.

I liked the trailer, aside from the very odd things going on with Emily Blunt's accent - not sure why she's dipping her voice the way she is. Sounds neither natural, nor anything like Julie Andrews, which is odd because I expected one of those things, though both was always too much to hope for.
Lin's accent made me smile, because it was exactly what I was hoping for - a full on bad Cockney like my beloved Dick Van Dyke. Who has sold me a ticket based on his cameo alone!

Meryl doesn’t count as she’s the queen of accents.

I'm sure they will get a passing nod to Julie A in somewhere. I wonder if she would do a small appearance in the film or is that just wishful thinking?

It’s a great role to play and as you say, the focus should be on Emily and her interpretation of the role rather than on JA. Though I must admit, it would of been great to have seen them in the film together.

Yeah it would be great if Julie Andrews was involved at some point. Maybe she could voice one of the animated characters which wouldn't draw too much attention away from Emily Blunt. I'm really interested in hearing the music they have created for this. The music for the original is iconic so they have a lot to live up to.

I really need a Julie cameo in this, but understand why she wouldn’t (if she hasn’t). The best cameo would be surely to have her in the mirror staring back at Emily, especially in the context of the trailer saying she hadn’t aged.

DICK VAN DYKE RETURNS AND I AM ALL FOR IT. And did somebody say something about ANGELA LANSBURY BEING IN THIS? Oh my HEART!
But as gracious and humble as Dame Julie was about not appearing in it to give Emily all the glory, uuuuuuuuuuuuugh just to see the tiniest wee glimpse of her somewhere or just to hear her voice for a second would be the cherry on top.

How about at the end, we just see Julie fly past Emily. No words, just a wink, with no context as to who she is as Emily is Mary. 😂😂

Meryl's role is actually the female version of a male character in the books (Arthur Turvy who is Mary Poppins's cousin) and Angela Lansbury is the Balloon Woman. Both come from chapters in the second books of the series, Mary Poppins Comes Back.

I really hope Meryl Streep isn’t in it much.
The trailer looks quite good. I will wait to see it in its entirety until I judge Emily Blunt’s casting.
