This show suffers from being massively overhyped on this forum and elsewhere. I wish them well but it did absolutely nothing for me.

It is a much more enjoyable listen than watch. I think Burly summed it up perfectly with the word ‘turgid’.

By the time we got halfway through act 2 I was just wishing the damned thing would sink.

This show suffers from being massively overhyped on this forum and elsewhere. LOL. nothing to do with the 5 Tony awards it won, including Best New Musical, Best New Score and Best New Book? No, its overhyped on this forum... Maybe its not overhyped at all. Maybe other people enjoyed it and you didnt?

It is a much more enjoyable listen than watch. I think Burly summed it up perfectly with the word ‘turgid’. I find the Broadway cast album (mostly) fairly dull and had always assumed it came alive in performance. Still might give it a go - though none of the current tour dates are particularly close…

Really? I love the massive bombastic passages of choral stuff especially, and the stokers song…the rest is quite dull, and theres zero suspense in the story. 🤣

Hi there - was just wondering if anyone has seen the Titanic musical? There is a UK tour soon, which will be docking (geddit?) in Sheffield, which is near to me, in July. Nothing makes me happier than live theatre and I would literally watch *almost* anything, but to manage my expectations, just looking for some feedback from fellow theatre lovers.
Is it worth the £50 ticket fee? Am I likely to feel a little disappointed, or alternately over joyed (as much as you can do, given the inevitable outcome!)
Cant wait to hear your thoughts.....

I’ve only seem amateur productions of it, but loved the CD back in the day. Some gorgeous choral singing and The Stokers song is a thing of baritone beauty.

I saw the first UK tour of this production and I loved it. I've been listening to the CD for over 20 years and I am a Titanic history buff so I may be slightly biased, but it's one of my all time favourite musicals. It's fairly historically accurate and very moving.
I think the trailer is a good representation so if that appeals then you should like it

I absolutely loved the previous production and went several times. Hunted down the CD too. Funny, because I nearly didn't go. I'd had a couple of frustrating days, and problems were lining up on the day of my first visit, so much so that I had to give myself a strict talking to and make myself go. Several hours later and I had completely fallen in love with the show!

Several hours later and I had completely fallen in love with the show! I had a similar experience with Newsies, all be it my first was not live! I saw the US version at the cinema but was heavily pregnant and very nearly didn't go....by the end I was dancing and whooping so much people thought I was in labour (although that may just be my dancing!) I have watched it a million times now on Disney plus, (not to mention thousands of Jeremy Jordan YouTube videos) and my 5 year old son is mesmerised by the dancing. I am off to see the UK version at the end of this month and very much looking forward to my first Newsies live experience. *over share alert* I suffer from some very debilitating mental health issues and find day to day interaction very hard. However, as soon as I enter a theatre I feel alive, and truly happy. I was encouraged to join this forum to connect with like minded people, on a subject I could talk about forever, without the fear of anxiety or rejection! So far, everyone has been wonderful!

I saw Titanic at the Southwark Playhouse a few years ago and really enjoyed it. The music is really good, would happily see it again.

Cant wait to hear your thoughts..... Congrats on your first thread 24601. We already have one for Titanic so I’ve merged. Don’t let that put you off starting threads in the future!

With a lesser-known musical like this I do wonder if people out in the regions who book to see it might be somewhat confused by the absence of Jack and Rose...
Coincidentally, the musical first opened on Broadway in 1997, the same year the movie was released!

If you like big choral singing and fantastic voices, then you should definitely go see it. Maybe have a listen to the cast recording beforehand, or buy a cheaper ticket, so if its not for you, you havent lost so much. I think its a wonderful show and very moving.

I remember hearing stories at the time about people complaining that 'My Heart Will Go On' wasn't in it, or asking who was playing Jack and Rose. And if I'm remembering rightly, Forbidden Broadway had a field day with both film and show.

When I saw it at Charing Cross, there was a teenage girl sat near us who, when informed it had nothing to do with the film, was disappointed that her world wasn't about to be rocked by the musical theatre equivalent of a young Leonardo DiCaprio. "Sorry dear, this one's about all the middle-aged people on board".

"Sorry dear, this one's about all the middle-aged people on board". There are young couples and persons - e.g. Lady's Maid. But, you can have quite the male beefcake in Barrett's Song which would rock a young person's world more than Mr. DiCaprio.

Saw this last week and it's just as powerful and moving as ever.
Excellent cast all round but special mention to Adam filipe who is an outstanding Barratt. I can see him having a big future ahead of him. Strong powerful voice and good acting. Leading man potential for sure.

I remember loving this at Southwark and scary to think that was ten whole years' ago!!
We went last night in Nottingham. I loved it once again, as did my partner who had never seen it before or heard the music.
I do think a few parts drag slightly and could be condensed, but the songs are fantastic. The cast were uniformly excellent imo, although I agree with the comment about the stoker who was fantastic.
It was nice to see it on a bigger stage but then I actually think I was slightly less overwhelmed in the second half than at Southwark where the small space felt suffocating and added to the tension.
I was wondering if it wouldn't sell well in Nottingham but looked not far off a full house. Audience much better behaved than at Sister Act last week, albeit a few left halfway through the second half.
If anyone is hesitating, it's definitely worth a watch in my humble opinion!

Saw this tonight at The Lowry thanks to a half price ticket offer and wasnt overly impressed. I thought the first act was over dramatic with far too much staring off into the middle distance moments and overuse of clichés. In the words of Dolly from Dinnerladies "the iceberg couldn't come soon enough" I considered leaving at the interval but stayed and thought the second act was better. The song "we'll meet tomorrow" was quite moving especially as the cast came out into the audience, although for some reason the girl in front of me thought this was hilarious and wouldn't stop giggling which kind of ruined the moment.

Deserves to sink and never be recovered. Awful. Totally disagree! I loved this in Cardiff. I went in knowing nothing about it (apart from the obvious…) but found it incredibly moving and effective. For me it’s one of those musicals which is almost wholly driven by the music and the atmosphere that creates, and it stayed with me for a while after I left the theatre.

I can't remember if I've commented yet.
I saw it back in March or April. Really enjoyed it. Liked the characters and thought it was very well written. Moving and measured in tone.
The music was the biggest letdown for me. Nary a hummable tune in the whole thing. But after reading up about the deliberate influences for the music (Britten, Elgar etc), it makes sense as to why there was little that felt like a showtune in the piece.
I think it suffered a bit from lack of set - but apart from that I rated it. 3.5 out of 5!
