I was saying to Manchester-based friend, who was envying my various London trips, that he gets to see Maxine Peake all the time.
"Yes, exactly, ALL THE TIME" It makes me wonder why more actors don't live in the regions and dominate their theatres.

Hahaha!!! Did they blow the budget on her dressing gown? What a mess!! Is it trying to be the Young Vic one (and failing?)? What's with the skipping ropes for rooms? Cripes. Seeing this in 2 weeks.

I can usually tolerate colour blind casting because as BME I know we don't get that many opportunities but this does feel a bit "Oh. Wow. Okay" I hadn't paid any attention to this production (I just don't like Peake these days) - but the casting does seem to raise more questions than the text is able to answer.

Caught today's matinee (if u where there I was the one who whistled) and thought it was marvellous. Nearly shed a tear (although that could have been the comedown).
Just a question for anyone else who has seen it - 3 times in the first act and once in the second a flash went off, we thought was someone taking a pic but came evident it wasn't. Does this happen every performance? The flashes wernt at any specific points

I was at Friday's performance and no noticeable flashes/flashing.
Unless you count when Stanley changed into his pyjamas.

Just surprised me

Just back. She's very good isn't she? The accent was a bit odd though.
Hated the set (what set?) and the unexplained silent characters on stage at various points, I assume these were some sort of ghosts of her past? I was reminded of "other Norma" in Sunset pacing around with pointed toes without explanation. In fact I disliked several of the directorial choices, including the constant one-note music buzzing in the background. I know this is intended to heighten the drama and it succeeds to some extent but it was continual and very distracting.
3.5 stars.
