No, row C. One of the little groups of two. Looks great and certainly a lot closer than the back of the upper circle

Just asked them about "day seats." Not confirmed yet, but the plan is simply to sell a few tickets at full price, if available. So, no discount for waiting in line early, it looks like. Underlining that, row A of the stalls is now on sale at £105 at all performances, online. Well that's me out then. No matter how much I like Sunset, I can't afford full whack, and I am not sitting miles away for the cost of a ticket to something else. Unless this changes in the next week then my Thursday morning dayseat will be spent outside the Wyndhams for People, Places and Things

Not an outrageous price, no, but I like facial expressions in the theatre.
Interesting they have only now released the front row. I wonder if they did initially plan on holding that back for dayseats at a 'reasonable' price, but then decided they could make more money by whacking a pricetag of £100 on it.
It's a shame. I may regret not going in the long run, but I just can't justify such an expense sadly.

The way I look at this is that the opportunity to see this show, with that star, live on stage and at close proximity is unlikely to come up again. For me that's worth foregoing two or three productions and spending the £100 for row A. It's horses for courses naturally but if you're already thinking you might regret it then doesn't that mean this should get priority over something else?

Not really. If it's a question of seeing this or paying rent I think I know what comes first sadly

I meant priority over seeing something else. And you're absolutely right, of course.

I'll cry for a little bit and then pull myself together and move on. Too many other things that I want to see. If I hadn't just spent £300 for a music festival a couple of weeks back I would have more disposable income to throw at this, but I made my bed and will lie in it.
I should stop talking here or I'll talk myself into it and then spend April hiding from my landlord.

Hmmm, now, that would be a theory, wouldn't it... and not one crossing only your mind for sure... Definitely crossing a few minds. Nonetheless, they clearly can make more money this way. I had held out in the hope of dayseats but ending up booking dress circle last weekend. I just rang the box office and upgraded them to front row stalls. If I'm going to pay horrendous ticket prices, they might as well be even more horrendous for seats I actually want to sit in. (Thanks Theatremonkey for the tip!)

My friend knows someone who knows someone in the show. He told me a few things about it that I liked and a few things I didn't: -There's a young Norma that appears every now and then - Orchestra is on stage "in the mansion"-It's very orchestral, I think there is a boost in the orchestral sound and ALW involved -Glenn wears original costumes (as we all know based on the credits to Powell's costumes), but some of the costume changes have been cut out. I pray they keep the leopard print gown ("Today is the day! Max is going to deliver the script to Paramount. I've just spoken to my astrologer. She read DeMill's horoscope; she read mine. DeMille is Leo, I'm Scorpio. Mars is transmitting Jupiter and today is the day of closest conjunction." Do we assume that the stage has been extended out over the orchestra pit then?

I was only going to measure the leg room, viewing angle/pistachio throwing trajectory and murmur self importantly in the bar.

The only one who is on seating duties is Mr. Theatremoney whose site is an invaluable resource. The rest of yous put on your turbans, load your guns, and strike a silent movie pose.

Please don't ever put "Michael Xavier" and "enormous" in the same sentence again. It sets my man-o-pause off!

According to Michael xaviers instagram the first performance in front of an audience is tonight so I assume there is an invited dress. There's also a photo with a slight glance of the set and i think orchestra

I was there tonight also. It was an invited dress rehearsal so there were lots of friends and family in watching. Firstly the orchestra is stunning and it sounds beautiful. Such a luscious score and it's played to perfection. I also liked Michael Xavier, he sang it brilliantly and for those who were a fan of the finale in The Pajama Game...well you get more of the same here with the title song being performed mostly topless.
The set is completely static, with the orchestra onstage and lots of staircases and platforms to give the sense of a move studio backstage. To me it looked cheap and some of the awkward staging only heightened this. If I was paying £80 I would be peeved there isn't more to look at. Some of the props also looked really cheap and were awkwardly dragged on and off by cast members.
And then there is Ms Close... I hate to be the first to say it but she's simply too old. Her first wig was a disaster and will no doubt be cut by opening night. She was clearly very nervous in Act 1 but the endless amount of climbing up and down the stairs would scare and tire anybody. She definitely warmed up throughout the evening and both her big numbers were fun - if a little underpowered. I wish she'd have had new costumes as the Anthony Powell's only served as a reminder of the opulance from the original production that is sadly missing here. It's a new interpretation of the role, much more subdued and less campy than on the cast recording.
I'm not quite sure what the creative team were going for here but no doubt it will tighten as the run progresses and Ms Close will improve once she settled in - but for me a bit of a disappointment.

I plan to start a rival website "Theatre Donkey" where I assess the suitability of theatres to house Medium to Large livestock & working farm animals. Obviously the Shaftesbury is up first as there always seems to be so much room available, and the regular turnarounds mean that the straw/bedding will always be nice and fresh.

She seemed perfectly chipper on Good Morning Britain this week discussing the show, even telling a story about her once in the 90's stopping the show to tell someone to stop taking pictures... her and Patti have more in common than we think!
