Sadly I was, yesterday.
After going to the matinee of In the Lobby of a Tokyo Hotel at Charing Cross I was able to make it in good time to my football game but the excessive injury-time the referee gave, and the crowds, stymied my attempts to get to the Park Theatre in Finsbury in time to see Sket.
Botheration. Still, I'll write down the wasted tickets as a contribution to theatre.

The moral of this story is don't mix sport with theatre!!!  No, seriously, I think the only time I've missed a show is when I was forced to stay late at work. |

I haven't missed anything I'd booked for; my 2 perennial issues are, firstly, juggling bookings, especially when theatres announce their seasons at timings so slightly different that you book for one, only to find those commitments then prevent you seeing something else, somewhere else, on the only possible date. This happens a lot when touring productions only visit a local venue for a week, or I have to travel somewhere further afield, e.g. Chichester, so can't fit in 2 plays that day as I would in London.
Secondly, the constant battle to stay awake for productions I've booked, and how ghastly I feel next day, as I'm a naturally very early riser and a lifetime of theatre-going hasn't overruled my body clock.

I've got 30 minutes to get from the NT Temporary Theatre to the Soho Theatre on Wednesday. Google Maps puts the walk at 26 minutes. Hoping the NT platform doesn't run over. Unfortunately, Soho Theatre is unreserved seating, so resigned to being at the back... assuming I make it at all...

I've booked some things very close together before with the understanding that I'll only make it if public transport doesn't let me down, but I've always made it so far (though did once have to leave a free event early to get to the show I'd paid for).

I've missed things a couple of times by having a different date in my head to what was on the actual ticket. Cape Town Opera's Showboat being one of them. Still kicking myself over that.  I have all the dates and times in my iOS calendar now, along with two alerts programmed in for 1 week, and 24 hours before the show. And I set up electronic invitations for anyone who is coming along so it goes into their calendars and they get the same alerts. That way I don't have to text saying "remember we have theatre on Wednesday". Dear old caiaphas won't understand any of this, he's still sticking things up with turtle pins, bless.  |

I even did a dummy run recently to check that I could get from one venue to the next in the time the Walkit app claimed at the "fast" speed. It was correct, but I wouldn't often have the opportunity to go to those lengths.

I'm pretty sure I can do it as long as the platform doesn't overrun, it all depends how many school tour groups I have to take out as I speed past Leicester Square... |

I booked to see Billy Elliot after volleyball at Earls Court in the Olympics, I didn't initially realise I got two games! I decided to leave early to both beat the crowds and also secure transport in good time!

I've done a couple of speedy walks from an NT platform to the West End, never cut it too fine luckily! In New York over the summer I'd booked what I thought was a 'nice late Sunday show' on our first day with Sylvia at 7.30...and winning the Hamilton lottery (I know, I know woe is me) meant that although it wasn't a run it was a 'speedy walk while trying to eat a burrito'

I was 10-15 minutes late to Gypsy because I made the mistake of thinking I could check into my youth hostel (in Tottenham!) and get to the Savoy in the space of an hour.

I honestly don't think I could go in once a show had started... I couldn't bear to see something incomplete. I think I'd have to book for another night.

Peter Brook's three play production of The Mahabharata in the Tramshed in Glasgow at an overnight marathon performance.
To keep costs down, I travelled for hours and hours through the day on National Express coaches from Cardiff, with a change at picturesque Digbeth.
On arrival in Glasgow, with hours to spare and little spare cash, I walked the streets of Glasgow and out to the Tramshed.
I settled down excitedly in my seat for Part 1 of the theatre event of the decade at 11.00pm, and struggled to stay awake through it.
I then slept through the entirety of Part 2 and most of Part 3 before awaking refreshed around 6.00am at the end to walk for more hours around Glasgow before enduring the National Express coach journey to delightful Digbeth and home to Cardiff.

Not deliberately over-ambitious, but back in September my friend and I were going to see the Kerry Ellis & Louise Dearman concert. We've never been to the Prince Edward theatre before, so we didn't have much more than a vague idea where it was.
We ended up being very very unlucky in that the station we wanted to get off at was closed, I suppose we should have checked that in advance but lesson learned! Anyway, we got off at the next nearest station then quickly got the maps app open to navigate... 20 minutes walk. Which was great, except we only had 10 until show time.
Somehow, we turned that 20 minutes into 7, by literally sprinting the majority of the way and speed walking when we physically couldn't run. Quite impressive considering we were knackered after being in town all day, and I was wearing heeled boots.
At least we made it, even if we did quite literally collapse into our seats once we were in!

I've not double booked any theatre shows but I have twice double booked for gigs. The first time I did it I was gutted and wasn't sure what to do with the ticket. Then with luck on my side, one of the bands postponed their show for another date, happy days. The second time I did it, I had no such luck but I only lost £14 on a ticket.
I missed a Sunday mat at the Old Red Lion due to getting confused with the stations, my fault as I had been there before but when rushing everything goes against you. Tube being slow, over crowded, a long way up two escalators at Angel. I was 3 minutes late but they wouldn't let me in but did let me use the ticket for another day as I am a regular there. Good theatre. having time to kill on that Sunday, I walked to Etcetera for a 6pm show, so not a wasted day.
