BurlyBeaR Is that a photo of a relation of yours or is he too small to be a member of the Burly clan?

That’s cousin Erik. Odd character. Goes out every night at 7, comes back covered in candle wax.

Certainly the first UK tour (which was the original production) did have the chandelier in Manchester and Bristol. That tour did very long sit downs at each venue. But anyway, taking the chandelier on tour is certainly possible. Very interesting that while the new productions of Les Mis/Miss Saigon etc are now worldwide and the originals have been retired - Cam Mac (or ALW!) seem to have ditched the new version of Phantom and returned to the original. The original is much better (and I am very pleased) but the new version was easier to tour and did sell out everywhere - so for once it looks like producers have gone with quality rather than quick profit. Unusual!

Between them CM and ALW have a reported net worth of approx $1.9 billion so you would think that to preserve the legacy of this show, they would be able to stump up the cash for touring the ‘original’.Money no object and all that!

Unusual! We've not seen the ticket prices yet... Perhaps they'll have both. Also, I dare say ALW is a little less amenable than CS & AB - especially when it comes to Phantom - so maybe Webber is the driving force in the decision to revert to the original.

Erik, BurlyBeaR, with a kicking k! What sort of ridiculous affectation is that? If you want to retain any kind of northern credibility, you need to break off all contact with that side of the family. 🙂

If we're going off the world tour for production then it seems like we might be getting some SIA Sorry, what is SIA?

If it's the original production they're touring, they will have the chandelier falling. As Dom said, both the first and second UK tours in 1993 and 1998 were replicas of the London production, with the chandelier. It's interesting though they are still touring the US with the new version.

@theatremonkey is your Uncle Gerald going for an audition? Or has he finally hung up the cymbals? (not before time some might say!)

I'm not sure that the last tour did sell out everywhere -- I saw it 2 evenings in Milton Keynes and on one of the evenings I literally had about the 5-6 row in the dress circle to myself (genuinely no exaggeration, the entire row and only me...).

Also, I dare say ALW is a little less amenable than CS & AB - especially when it comes to Phantom - so maybe Webber is the driving force in the decision to revert to the original. This is pretty much about right. ALW never really liked the restaged tour and said publicly soon after it opened that the Hal Prince production hadn't been bettered. And ALW does call the shots ultimately on this show. If Cameron had his way, Phantom's huge orchestra would have been replaced by computers and no doubt he'd have tried to ditch the show and replace it with his awful SPECTACULAR new production as he's doing with Miz. A certain well-known Phantom alumnus told me not longer after the restaged tour closed in the UK that it would never be coming back to Britain, even though it's still doing the rounds in America. I wasn't sure whether to believe that, but it looks like that was about right. Thank God.

Front row of the stalls looks the best value at the Palace Theatre in Manchester.
£65 (£70 Friday/Saturday) standard price or £70 (£75 Friday/Saturday) premium for most of the stalls and circle apart from the extreme sides, with the front row of the stalls £52 (£56 Friday/Saturday).

Quite surprised at the pricing on this in Manchester. Saturday Nights, Pink seats, best premium £75, £70 majority, outer stalls £40. Even with ATG add on nonsense, nothing seems to go over £100. Much more reasonable than Mormon and Les Mis.

Yes, Couldn't help but snap up a £52 front row seat for the opening night.

Prices not as awful as I thought - did wonder if was gonna set a new ATG regional high, but fortunately came in cheaper than Wicked, Lion King and Back to the Future etc. Also only a fiver difference from top price to premium (£70 vs £75 for the weekend) so broke my usual principle and actually went for the latter.

No discounts for opening night or early booking though. Bit stingy!

No discounts for opening night or early booking though. Bit stingy! But still, £5 off most seats except premium with the TheatreCard March - Mon 30th/Tues 31st/ Thurs 2nd Mat. April - Mon 20th / Tues 21st / Thurs 23rd Mat. April - Mon 27th / Tues 28th / Thurs 30th Mat. etc. Seniors get a good discount with the card too, £42 front row mid week (£47 otherwise!)

I’m definitely happy at the ticket prices. Booked front row stalls for £56 for a Saturday matinee. I’ve combined this with the opening night of WSS at the REX for a nice Manchester theatre weekend. Just waiting now for something decent at the Hope Mill for a Sunday matinee.

I think the pricing is odd. Yes the premium tickets may not be bad but they have subsidised with higher cheaper bands.
E.G ATG start prices at £13 for nearly all shows nowadays - even for Mormon. Whereas for this it's £30 for right at the back of the grand tier.
Great for attracting the middle earners but this won't do anything in the way of attracting a new audience.
With this and Les Mis touring next year, alongside Lion king it wouldn't surprise me if we saw sales drop across the board. All similar pricing strategies, all appealing to similar markets, they don't have unlimited money to spend and so something will have to give.

The £13 tickets only came into effect half-way into Mormon's booking period, same for Back to the Future and &Juliet. I dare say the same will happen to Phantom. By-and-large pretty much every seat in the house is cheaper than Mormon when booking opened. I think the pricing is a savvy move. Theres a hype about this I hadn't expected, non-theatre goers in work talking about this and wanting tickets having not mentioning a word about Mormon, Les Mis, Matilda or Wicked.

Booked a Thursday matinee at the Curve, Leicester. £62.50, perhaps a little more than I expected but acceptable. It's one of my favourite provincial theatres. Huge stage, great acoustics, comfy seats.
I booked a central seat in stalls D which is currently the front row. There's a warning that row C may be added later. The last time that happened at Curve they contacted everyone with an offer to exchange for the "new" front row which I thought was excellent customer service. Hopefully that will happen again if necessary.
