That’s a big venue, I’m a little surprised! But with his DEH fame I’m sure it’ll sell well or sell-out. I’m personally not a fan of Ben’s voice (his vibrato is so OTT for me) but he’s a talented guy and deserves all his success 👍 Horrible vibrato. I cannot listen to him.

Love that it has sold that well. It’s certainly one in the eye to the neysayers. It is my absolute favourite large venue to see people in and I’ve no idea why people are being so negative about it. It has a great bar and is a five minute walk to the only central London ‘hostel’ style hotel I’ll stay in. I mean there are still a lot of tickets available, but I’m sure by showtime it’ll be v well sold or sold out. I wasn’t being negative, but I just didn’t know whether Ben Platt was a big enough name over here compared to the US to fill such a large venue. Well I guess I was being negative about his vibrato too 😄 but even though I don’t like it I am happy to acknowledge that he’s v talented, lol!

The album is great though, so I’m sure enough people who have heard stuff on radio 2 will be interested. In the grand scheme of things, there are five people listening to his album.

I obviously have a masochistic streak as I seem to enjoy things that the average board member does not? Everything is all ‘inclusion’ ‘equality’ etc but as soon as someone enjoys something off of the Board mafia’s approved list the digs and bitching start. I shall just sit in my corner rocking (with BP on in the background obvs).

I haven’t listened to his album either, but I did see DEH with him in it on broadway and he was superb in that role! I’m sure the concert will be great 👍

What I meant was that in the grand scheme of things, he's mostly well known in theatre circles in the US, and to a far smaller theatre audience in the UK. Of the people who know him, even a smaller fraction listened to his album. I was not making a jab at his album, him or your preference.

I liked his voice on the DEH recording but I just cannot listen to his album - the vibrato gives me a headache. I’m surprised he’s not been coached to tone it down. I'm going to have to eat my words. Yes, I still find his vibrato too much but I'm currently goint through a very recent break up that has left my pretty heartbroken. One of Ben's songs came on on my Spotify and it's led me to listening to his album again and I've found it really comforting.

Along with a load of people I've never heard of, Ben Platt is one of the guests on Sunday Brunch tomorrow on Channel 4.

He was very good tonight. Great vocals, stories that informed the writing of the album etc. Good band too, but it was a little rehearsed & disingenuous at times. Still my favourite venue, and gobsmacking that it’s the only date outside of the US.

Still my favourite venue, and gobsmacking that it’s the only date outside of the US. His tour has sold amazingly well. I was dubious when he announced it how he’d sell out the larger venues but he seems to have managed it. Show’s how much of a phenomenon DEH has been .... I know this is Ben’s personal album and he doesn’t sing any DEH songs, but his popularity has come from being in that show.

It was a shame that it wasn’t a genuine sell out (as evidenced by the available ticket collection windows) but not by a lot.

Ben's album has become one of my favourites of the year. I wasn't in the country for the gig, alas, but pleased to hear it was good.
My other half likes the album but has an issue with Ben's oversinging throughout. He DOES oversing and needs to tone it down a bit but I just love his voice and, in a current pop climate of looped vocal samples and deliberately downbeat vocals, it's nice to have a singer with a penchant for DRAMA!
Really fantastic songs. It's got to be the most assured pop debut of a musical theatre star, ever???

I've literally just finished listening to the album whilst doing the ironing. I love his voice but the album is just not for me. I think it might be an age thing but a whole album of ballads is just too dreary to listen to. Need to listen to something now to cheer me up.
