Totally agree with Jenna’s thoughts. What makes Twilight Zone any more of a commercial success in the WE than Fun Home? I would love to have an answer to this question.

If a potential Fun Home transfer was the reason Jenna had to give up a role in Follies, and now it's not happening, that would be criminal!

I'm assuming you mean she would have been Sally in 'Follies'? Why would she turn down a lead role for the potential of a supporting role?

Set design is a bit more complicated than that unfortunately.
Um, yes. I know, but thank you so much for your condescension. I also know - and pointed out - that the Young Vic design wasn't precisely the same as the ones they used at the Public and on the US tour, which were also not the same as, well, each other. Your post suggested that designing it "for an end-on staging" required a huge amount of adaptation. Designing it for different wingspace, a different stage depth, a different flying system or whatever might have required a certain amount of adaptation, but it's not as if the show had only previously been staged in the round, which is what you implied.
I was very rude and didn't thank you for your condescension. Apologies.

No thanks necessary. You earned it fair and square.
Now did you have anything substantive to add to this conversation? No?
Thought not.

To be fair, if she passed up a role in the gloriousness that is Follies to continue in this average musical where all she really gets to sing is a dirge about her awful husband, then it's on her

(sorry for bumping this up, it isn't any exciting announcement)
For anyone in the know, how close was this to getting a quick return to London ? It's clear now it wont be making a fairly immediate return as was predicted due to the cast saying they were 'on hold'. It was my show of 2018 and even though there's still a chance of a West End transfer, the longer from closing of the previous production, the less likely.

Sorry to dash hopes of exciting news but maybe not all is lost with this association with SFP 🤞

^So from what I hear, SFP were all lined up to transfer it in, but Sonia Friedman didn't like it, and so they never did.

Sadly don't think that was the best performance to show it off, unfortunately.

Sydney Lucas gave a showstopping performance of Ring of Keys on the Tony's when Fun Home won its five awards. This attempt to do something similar at the Oliviers fell terribly flat, maybe because the show's no longer running and the actress has forgotten how to tell the story of the song. She sang all the right words (in the right order) but it just lost its narrative somehow. Fun Home is still a far better show than Come From Away though.

Well that's a strange way to go about things. Not above highlighting their involvement when it was up for some awards though i see.

To say Sonia didn’t like the show and that’s why it’s not transferring it, is rubbish. She CHOSE to produce the show as she loves it.
However, she is a businesswoman and selling out a limited run at a theatre already with a built in audience , like the YV, to transferring a show to the west end that isn’t commercial are two very different things.
And.. they didn’t spent lots of money redesigning it for the YV- that version is basically a carbon copy of the US tour.

She has taken commercial risks previously though, possibly none riskier than transferring The Nether to the Duke of York's. There are still rumours, aren't there, that Fun Home *might* still transfer?

I love me some FH obviously, but much like Caroline or Change, it's not an EASY sell, and as we saw with Caroline, having a sell out incredible run at a venue in London does not guarantee but maybe even hampers your WE audience.
In the right house/with the right cast FH could have a nice little limited run, but honestly now if I was producing it I'd let it lie a year or two and bring it back again fresh.

Irish premiere at the Gate Theatre, Dublin, in Summer 2023. Don't tease us like that Rory! Was hoping a WE run might have been announced! I still think about this show and get a bit teary, one of my best ever nights in a theatre. Very pleased that Ireland gets a version even if it wasn't the news I was exactly hoping for.

I see live theatre all the time- I mean ALL OF THE TIME- it's actual one of the many (many) reasons that I moved to the London.
Whilst I have a personal preference for musicals, I do occasionally enjoy a great play.
I saw this show at the Young Vic a couple of years back and (genuinely) not knowing anything about this show cannot remember the last time I was so moved by a piece live theatre.
Every person on stage, young and old, were just sensational. I never forgot it. And I'm not even a lesbian! Lol!
When it came to Sydney, I told everyone I know to go and see it!

I am the total opposite. I saw it on Broadway and hated every single second of it. It's the first time I have ever walked out a show without even clapping at the end.
