I'm quite pleased it is extending. Particularly on matinee days, I find it helpful to know that a lot of overseas tour groups are safely caged up in the Lyric for a couple of hours, rather than wandering around causing havoc for residents on the streets and tube. I applaud your ability to find a silver lining to this particular cloud. I couldn’t see a single one!

I understand from a friend involved with the Lyric that Thriller Live has stopped turning a profit these days and it's West End run will be coming to an end sooner rather than later. Would expect it close September-ish after the main tourist season.

I usually love a Jukebox musical but I just can't stand the music of Michael Jackson, and as I understand it this is more of a tribute concert. The Lyric and the St. Martins are the only West End theatres I have never been in.

Did it not extent its run until April 2019 within the very last week? Interesting turn of events. Could have been done to try kick sales up but seems strange to announce a years extension if its not turning over a profit.

The Lyric and the St. Martins are the only West End theatres I have never been in. 'Showstopper! The Improvised Musical' is in the Lyric once per month on a Monday. It's fantastic and a good opportunity to see the inside of the theatre!

I really really hope there’s truth to this, when people find out I’m interested in theatre one of the first replies is often ‘have you seen Thriller?’ or ‘Oh I loved Thriller’ and it drives me up the bloody wall

It's not unusual for shows to add a another six-seven months to their booking period but they normally do it 2-3 months before it's due to run out.

I've never seen comps for this in my two years of blogging, to put this in context I've had comps for Wicked and The Lion King. It's safe but the tour option might kill a lot of ticket sales if a lot of the audience came from outside London to see it.

Everything about "Thriller Live" just screams TOURIST! I wonder how many of the people queuing up at the TKTS booth in Leicester Sq every day are watching it?

Hello lovely people. Does anyone know (as I've never seen Thriller Live), is the band on stage on in a pit?

Ha. I'm not sure I could sit through it. I'm just looking at hiring the theatre for the afternoon.

I know it gets slagged off on here, and for that reason I've never seen it in London, but I chanced the tour and really enjoyed it. Rory Taylor's interpretation of She Out Of My Life was exquisite, the best I've ever heard to be honest. No plot of course, but I knew that before we went but a very enjoyable, feel good evening for us. All the cast worked their socks off.

At the back centre underneath the raised walkway. Either there, or in the pub, as usual with theatre bands... As a west end musician myself, who doesn't drink... please feel free to update your generalisations.

I've heard of you. In response to the post above, yes, I think we can be a little harsh on it. Rory Taylor, for example, is a very talented performer and there have been many other talented performers in this show. For me, it's the fact it really is a tribute show and I just really dislike that sort of thing. After three (double) G+T's i'd see it again.

It’s a tribute show/pop concert filling a prime West End theatre, where Dear Evan Hansen or Something Rotten could possibly reside instead...is all. I think that is my objection to it.

Reminder Theatre And particularly the WE Is not a charitable institution Designed to respond to the personal tastes and fantasies and whims of the forum Thriller is presumably still running at a very good profit Which is why it is still there The two shows you mentioned Will likely not be a guaranteed success in the WE anyway And it doesn’t make sense to close a profitable show For an unknown risk

I actually saw half of this show on my last London trip, I will explain. I made friends with some other tourists on a walking tour who had an extra ticket for this and they invited me to go with them, which was sweet. It was a Sunday and I wasn't seeing any shows that day so I thought why not, really how bad could it be??? Well... Believe everything negative you have read about this show on here, it was so so bad! 😱 We all left at the interval and went to a pub instead which was a much better choice.
I think this show is good for people who don't speak English and are huge MJ fans, since there's no storyline. In my opinion it's a waste of time and money but the theatre was full. The audience was super casual in their behavior. People were talking, singing, drinking, eating and constantly getting up to go to the bathroom. If I was offered a free ticket again for this I wouldn't go. This really has to be the worst show I have ever seen. 😂
P.S: I made sure to buy drinks at the pub for my new friends to compensate them for the ticket they gave me. Seemed only fair but so this show actually did cost me money, grrrr...

I’m not allowed a personal preference? I didn’t ask to see it’s accounts, merely stated that I think it’s clogging up a valuable site. (But thanks ever so for the lecture...)
