Would anyone be able to help out a fellow TB member? I've booked a ticket for opening night (21 March) at 7pm in the Circle Row B in the side block that I can't use any more. The Monkey considers this a good value ticket as it's only slightly restricted by the bar. I paid £32 for it and it has a face value of £29.50. I have the PDF ticket already. Would anyone be able to take it off my hands? Will accept £30 (or best offer) for it and can deliver instantly. I would but can't afford it til end of next week so if anyone else takes it between now and then fair enough

I didn't know much about this show so watched the trailer and knew all the songs! Booked the Saturday after opening (extreme side of the front row), seems a bargain.

Not sure which trailer you watched... had a peep and found lots and lots. Have to say that this looks exquisite! Really looking forward to it.

I know there's a thread in the Musicals section, but it's the dance factor that has got me interested in this - Christopher Wheeldon directing and choreographing, and starring Robert Fairchild (New York City Ballet principal dancer) and Leanne Cope (Royal Ballet former First Artist dancer). Has there been such a large-scale dance-musical of this Gershwin era recently in the UK? It sounds like something I'd regret if I missed it.

When I saw this in New York, I thought it was a straight play, what do I know!

I know there's a thread in the Musicals section, but it's the dance factor that has got me interested in this Threads merged. Even if you want to discuss the dance elements, it's still a musical.

I was eager to see this just because of the dance factor too. In the end only two bigger dance numbers stood out to me, the pas de deux at the end of act one and the big production number in the second act. Between those there's way too much dialogue and mediocre bits and far too little dancing.

See AAIP - it's far and away the better show - and fresher, in any case.

I saw AAIP three times in Paris and really enjoyed it - most especially the 17 minute ballet in the second act. Cope and Fairchild (I'm a longstanding and great NYCB fan) were brilliant in that ... and it was wonderful seeing the show with a Parisian audience; almost entirely French. They were enraptured.
I have a ticket for the first preview (Sat night March 4th, 7.30pm) in the Dominion's Circle Q28 with a full view - (which is certainly best for watching the ballet). I cannot now go and wondered if anyone might like this ticket. I paid £16.50 for it but will happily sell it for half price: £8. It is an e-ticket so I could forward it to you.
If anyone is interested please PM (private message) me.
Much thanks for your kind consideration.

Glad to see the first performance is pretty much sold completely, its only single seats left pretty much! Only 39 seats left according to the website, but of course some could of been sent for comps or deals.

You're right theatremonkey - a most misleading email!

The previews are already reduced by that amount, it isn't an offer, you can get it on the show's website. There is a slightly bigger offer at londontheatredirect.com, though, on second and third price seats. God I can't see this show lasting very long

Now doing £20 Rush tickets on TodayTix, probably a wise move!

Whoever thought it was a good idea to book this show into the huge Dominion with all those seats to fill, needs sacking. Right. Now.
It's going to be one expensive folly. Even if the reviews are raves, I just fail to see this having mass appeal, which it will really need. Made worse by the arrival of 42nd street which I think may actually appeal more.

Really? I personally would of thought American in Paris would have more appeal than 42nd Street to a general audience? But I think both are hugely risky in their respective theatres. I can't see either making it past a year or so, unless the reviews are spectacular or they do something more regarding promo.

Well this is absolutely stunning. I want the interval to end so I can see more!
Edit for the fuller verdict: apart from a bit of a clunky script (some bad bad jokes especially) I absolutely loved this. There was a lot more dance than I was expecting due to an earlier discussion in this thread - and what amazing dancing. I'm a fan of Wheeldon's other works so I knew what to expect on that front but it was all performed wonderfully. I loved the fluidity of the design and the use of projections and lighting, and the costumes were beautiful. Full house tonight and what seemed like a very receptive audience. The music is just lovely, really special to hear it played like that. I can't wait to go again.

And the roar from the audience at curtain... I'm surprised the roof didn't come off. Quite exquisite

I think it wasn't just the cheers but also the rapt attention that you could feel from the entire audience.
And whoops, booked for next week already.

I meant as in every musical production that's has just opened, not new New Erm, almost every new musical does. It's not a new musical.

I'm gonna wait to see reviews from both AAIP and 42nd Street, I'm really in doubt between those two as my ''spectacle musical'' of my trip to London in April.
