Yes, just saw. What an absolute disaster. Fine when its a couple of people but when it is the whole lead cast it seems like a bit of a piss take. I totally respect that people get unwell and that people go on holiday, but a decent company manager can normally mitigate from it all happening at the same time. Hey ho, will just have to get drunk instead.

If one person gets sick and has been in contact with someone else they can easily spread it, ie the common cold, flu, covid… how can a decent company manager stop people getting sick? And if someone is on holiday when another lead gets sick, should the company manager order that person to come home from their holiday?

Saw & Juliet for the second time last weekend with a few covers on. Grace for Juliet, Ivan for Shakespeare, Chris for May, nobody covering Lord Capulet. Particularly enjoyed Chris on as May and certainly was not disappointed by Grace as Juliet, she was great. Really it's Melanie La Barrie who steals the show though!
Thought the show was in great shape and enjoyed it more than my first visit in early 2020.

Because it won’t all be sickness. It’ll be people being approved the same holiday days years ago and nobody having the balls to have ‘the conversation’ with them for the good of the show now where it is unexpectedly still running.
It doesn’t matter because the people that have turned up have really TURNED UP! Alex Tranter is hilarious and one to watch. Grace is miles better than the last time I saw it and Kirstie Skivvington is very good too. It just all looks very thin and sounds one dimensional yet very very loud to make up for the missing voices. Fair play to them for carrying on. They must be at the very edge of possibility though.

I saw Alex Tranter as Shakespeare back in November and he was brilliant. Had no idea he was the second cover until I looked at Twitter after the show.

Having seen Ivan as Shakespeare, and heard clips of Alex's Shakespeare, I prefer Alex in the role from a vocal point of view. Ivan is brilliant as Lance though. Alex had a period end of November/beginning of December where he was being thrown on for a different cover every day. I think he did all 3 of his covers within a week at one point.

I think Ivan as Lance Is probably the one cover in & Juliet where there isn’t much difference between the principal actor and cover. Though he has been on loads as Lance and been able to finesse his performance.

Alex was Romeo today. Looked a touch old occasionally but he was cheeky, posh and daft with a good voice.

Everyone is entitled to their holiday! Your post is remarkably inconsiderate towards a cast you seem desperate to see!

I would wholly agree that everyone is entitled to their holiday, however it is not always handled fairly, competently or equitably in the workplace.
I was/still am feeling thoroughly aggrieved that, yet again, I would be getting on a pre-booked train to travel for 3 hours to sit in pre-booked theatre seats to see a Russian roulette of a cast. Certain performers seem to get sick on a Saturday an awful lot. I’m sure there is probably a venn diagram in it somewhere. Yes performers get sick, performers are allowed time off. I’ve bleated it all myself. It doesn’t hurt any less when you spend £250+ on a day out and the element you were really looking forward to (for the 7th time across 2 different shows) is still a Saturday matinee no-show.
I had a great time, thoroughly enjoyed most of the experience and thank the cast for their enthusiastic performances.

The original Manchester cast which was then transferred to London was the ultimate. Perfection. In early 2020 (pre lockdown) they had already started switching the leads and it was to the detriment of the show. They’re doing it again now by the sounds of it.
This show treads a fine line. The wrong cast could make it bloody awful.

Ivan as Will didn't seem to fit for me.

Ivan as Will didn't seem to fit for me. He reminded me very much of Dominic Littlewood off of Rip Off Britain and all of those consumer shows. He was serviceable at best, vocals all over the place.

His voice isn't right for Shakespeare for me - Shakespeare's songs are too high for him. I'd get why Ivan is first cover as he's probably more age appropriate, but I think Alex (2nd cover) is a better fit for the role than Ivan.

God I wouldn’t compare my worst enemy to that Dominic Littlewood. Making a packet out of bbc shows where he goes round spying on people who leave their rubbish in the wrong place and standing behind the jobsworths who give people fines in the street. Horrific.

THAT’S why he was checking tickets at the beginning!!! I thought it was odd, especially when he started ranting about Viagogo and StubHub and holding the government to account. T’would appear that they DO have emergency swings at ‘& Juliet’ 😂

I was also at the show last Saturday afternoon, first time seeing it after becoming obsessed with the cast album during lockdown. Personally I love seeing understudies, so I was actually really excited when I walked in to see the cast board showing the four covers on for the leads.
I thought Grace was excellent as Juliet. I liked her in Six, but she is on completely another level in this show. I liked how she played Juliet as sweet, bubbly and innocent compared to Miriam's more sassy and defensive portrayal from listening to the album, it made the character appear more vulnerable. And her vocals... wow. She's seriously improved since Six and I think she has a long and healthy career in theatre ahead of her.
I wasn't too sure about how Kirstie was playing it at first as Anne, then TTWII happened in act 2 and that completely changed my opinion as her. Brilliant voice and stage presence. I personally liked Ivan as Will, thought he and Kirstie worked really well together.
Really enjoyed Alex Tranter as Romeo, lots of cheers for him when he first came down at the end of act 1.
Alex Thomas-Smith was excellent in Rent back in summer, and they were equally as amazing here. I'm Not a Girl... Not Yet a Woman was a showstopping moment, and as a non-binary person it really means a lot to me seeing representation both on stage in both actors and characters.
Melanie La Barrie completely stole the show in every scene she was in, with all the comic timing, one-liners and facial expressions. Completely to be expected as she was fab in Wicked.
Would definitely go back!

I also hadn't ever been to the Shaftesbury prior to this. It really is a maze, isn't it? I was in the royal circle and finding the toilets, bar and even the exit took a lot of effort.

pre- covid time i wanted see this musical but as far i remember i was in London week/ 2 week before it started run .. Now this still on my list! and i wonder ticket in ticket rush for it looks like for Six musical aka zero chances to catch it. better to buy cheaper now at Grand C matinee shows (looking at the April musicals and overprice they are i look at you mouline ro or don't tempting me ) and these are interesting for me and tickets are affordable. Also anyone try "catch" ticket in daily seat one?

If you’re in London at midday they do day seats at the box office and they’re always good seats.

I notice a lot of people have tweeted them saying the same thing so I'm guessing it's a glitch, but no sign of a fix or announcement from them yet.

That looks like a great ensemble. I will miss the original ensemble. Interesting that so many of them have left in comparison to the principal cast.
Benjamin Terry will be a swing and 1st cover May
Aaron Shales will be a swing and 2nd cover May.
