As much as I love French & Saunders, I would much prefer the Saunders and Lumley to be the stepsisters.

Have to say Count Arthur Strong makes me tempted by this

How about Count Arthur Strong and Phantom of London as the Ugly Sisters?
Then, Russell Brand as Baron Hardon.
I stick to Dame Joan Collins as Fairy Godmother and Scarlet Moffatt as Cinderella.

I like the idea of Saunders and Lumley as the Uglies. Or David Walliams and Matt Lucas.
Perhaps Pixie Lott as Cinders. Or a West End actress like Danielle Hope (who has done panto before)? Another name that popped into my head was Sam Barks.
Babs Windsor as Fairy Godmother? She's a link to the last Palladium panto and has been in EastEnders again recently. Though Amanda Holden does sound plausible.

I imagine Cinderella will be played by a strong singer because her and the prince will probably sing a duet and it be unfair on her to sound considerably worse than Lee Mead. Cant see Babs as the fair godmother. Her Eastenders scenes were filmed over a longer than normal period to accommodate her age and also her poor memory. Cant see her therefore being capable of 12+ shows a week. Is the Stepping Out tour finished by December? Cant see the sisters in drag as well.

I'm sorry everyone but this cast isn't good enough end of. We have seen Hollywood actors grace the panto stage in the past few years and none in this? Why should we bother then? David Hasslehoff to Pamela Anderson but not in this? Very odd..
The performers are great of course, but most of us have seen them all before and paid half the price!!

Love how people are talking about how unimpressive the cast is, like this is everything and not one single other cast member is yet to be announced, and like most pantomimes don't have just the one major name, maybe a couple of local favourites, and the rest of the cast made up of jobbing actors/dancers. XD

Perhaps the London Palladium will follow the practice of this year's RSC Xmas show and have a hologram as the Fairy Godmother.
By the way, isn't Lee Mead traditionally played by a woman?

Seriously... Do the kiddies even care who's in it? As long as it's bright, loud, someone with a boat/string of washing/bowl of fruit on their head throws sweets at them, invites them onto the stage to sing a song they've never heard of, then all's well, isn't it? Oh, and a puff of smoke comes up somewhere. And they can eat as much popcorn as they want, talk all the way through it, and get up to go out and reappear whenever they like.
(Just realized this sounds like a typical West End audience for quite a few shows actually...)

I'm sure more cast will be announced which is huge. Baz has said that the Ugly Sisters are very good casting. French and Saunders or Lucas and Walliams would really be amazing! I also think Amanda Holden, Babs Windsor or Joan Collins would be great addition as fairy godmothers. Then I think Cinderella would be an American actress. Exciting casting still to be announced!

Hence the dirty jokes and pop tunes. And the parents will want a name to justify the price, when we can all go locally to a panto that is a lot cheaper.

Really? Well the parents don't seem the least bit bothered about the casting judging from they way they flocked to see the likes of Elf last year. And that cost a fair bit, didn't it? I reckon it's more the words "panto" and "Palladium" (together) that will sell most of the tickets, not who is cast.

I think casting defiantly helps as the prices are west end prices to get people to come to their panto in London and not a local one

Plus for rather a lot of people, the Palladium IS their local panto. By the time you factor travel to an out of town show on top of ticket prices which, even regionally, are in the £40-60 bracket at the larger venues, there's not much to choose between them on an attendance cost basis... but a lot in terms of show budget and that can make a huge difference to the end product!
Personally, I booked a ticket for this as soon as it was announced - just the concept of panto back at the Palladium was enough to draw me in. Now I know who's in it, I may well book again!

The casting for this V the prices is terrible. Unless they get a killer name I'm not going.

I've been going to the Wimbledon panto every year since I was little. They are very good I must admit. However, we wanted a change this year so we're going to the palladium one. We did say though, if the cast for Wimbledon is HUGE then we'll get cheap tickets for it. They never announce their cast until like October though. Didn't enjoy their Peter Pan last year though but I didn't like the story or the cast

Nobody's forcing you to I think it's cracking casting so far - I'm far less interested in some 'killer name' than I am in seeing people I know are great at panto. I booked early because I trusted QDOS to load their cast with exactly such people, even if they do also throw a name or two at it to appease those for whom such things are important.

This thread is so funny with some of the casting expectations. And people would rather pay £100 to see Pamela Anderson instead of some of the finest entertainers in the country? And families wouldnt want that either. This cast is amazing. It's pretty much the majority of big qdos names (I wonder if there are some annoyed regional theatres this year) Also, look at the history of panto at the palladium. Its never been about big current Hollywood or music stars from America. It's always been the bigger names in variety with the occasional British pop act www.its-behind-you.com/palladium.htmlPeople often use panto as an insult, but when it's done well it's a great showcase for variety acts. It's not just about the headliners, and if you get someone who doesn't 'get' panto and isn't delivering the lines the the audience won't forgive no matter who they are. Only a few American acts are right and actually made panto a success, and ones that don't often don't return. Kids don't care about cast, unless it's maybe a cbbc name. Parents maybe want a name or two and in this initial line up you have names that are known. Paul o grady has a massive following. Also let's not forget in the initial rumours they always said the star names would be surrounded by reliable panto stars and that's what we have so far. The only name mentioned I could see as a possible would be Kylie, although I'd hope shed be fairy godmother and not cinders Joan Collins would be brilliant, especially opposite her friend paul

Judging by what I asked Baz im guessing the sisters have been cast and it's Cinders and the fairy than haven't yet. Perhaps with another smaller female played role.

It's going to be Kimberley Walsh as Cinders isn't it? Barbara Windsor would be my guess as Fairy Godmother with Mel & Sue as the Ugly Sisters.

The last few times I have seen Cinderella (yes, I confess I'm a panto fan), Cinders has been played by a virtual unknown. I'm guessing this won't be the case on this occasion.
