How is Dom Simpson as Christian? I saw it on Monday and the whole cast and production was excellent. Dom has a great voice and acted the part with just the right combination of charm, idealism and romance (and, ultimately, despair). Really excellent and I’d never have guessed that he’d only been with the show for a few weeks.

I also caught the new cast and thought he was excellent, and sounded great.
Tanisha also very good. The show should have just opened with them, they are a huge improvement on the original leads.
The whole cast were strong (exception being Ben Richard’s who is very weak IMO)
Yes it’s not the best show you’ll ever see- but it delivers huge spectacle and the audience went absolutely wild for it again. It was also packed and I saw a mid week show, this isn’t going anywhere for a while.

Yep my only gripe is how they haven’t been able to lose Ben Richards yet.

From seeing it again recently I realised that it isn’t Christian who needs to be nuanced or a great actor. It’s Satine & Ziegler who carry the emotional heft. As long as he can belt ‘Come What May’ in the right key 127 times a night (not. again.😩) and have some modicum of chemistry with Satine I don’t see this being tricky to cast. Matt Kelly/Rixon whatever had Ziegler spot on and Melissa James too. Beautiful work. Nothing about Tanisha Spring in GD made me think that she’ll struggle with this. I’m not sure I could sit through it again to find out though.

He is supposed to go on the biggest ‘journey’ and is heartbroken at the end.

I would love to revisit this show but the continued price increases is getting slightly out of hand... £99 can can seats, now £159 on a Saturday night - ludicrous

If you can book last minute there are some bargains to be had on the day with dynamic pricing. To be honest, the can can seats don't offer the best view although you are obviously in the thick of the action. I prefer to sit a little further back to be able to see the whole stage without having to turn my head. If you are able to stand these are a bargain on the day at £19.

It whizzed past Satines death at breakneck speed to get to the far more important megamix.

I don't think it will be him as I don't think he's with that agency (assuming that rumour is true) but I do think (and I think I've said before) Jordan Luke Gage could be a good Christian He is with that agency. Again, I have receipts for said rumour - but cannot share. We will have to wait until London casting is announced mid-September and Broadway in October. I'd love to see Jordan Luke Gage as Christian, although I suspect he will get Orpheus I would love to see JLG as orpheus. New here what's this about an agency??

We need Orpheus to at least have an ounce of charisma so it can't be JLG - Muscato seems to the best option of what's on offer currently.
Pleased to hear the new pairing are good - Tanisha is great and might tempt me back to what is a very flashy show with zero substance

I’d have loved to have seen Bonny me Clyde but I couldn’t put myself through it, he was bad enough in &Juliet, there is just something about him that irks me. I know I’m probably in the minority

Believe it or not, I actually got a seat through the lottery, so it is possible.
Position around 350 in the queue. Sometimes the site shows a seating plan (but with little available), sometimes just a choice of ticket numbers, some dates sold out.
I kept being offered either Row P Stalls or Upper Circle, so I did "gamble" a few times by cycling through the dates, eventually getting the front row of the Dress Circle. So that's a decent result.
Only slight annoyance is I couldn't avoid the booking fee despite being a Theatre Card member, but excited to see the new cast.

Some thoughts from last night. I saw this from the centre of the first row of the Dress Circle, which is an excellent view and not too far away. I'm not normally a Dress Circle person, but in this case, I liked it being slightly less intimate than table seat I sat at before. You do get a good view of the table seats. The sight of a mother encouraging her son to get a close look at some of the scantily clad female dancers is always amusing.
Gavin Ryan was on as Christian (I believe his third performance) and Angela Marie Hurst made her Satine debut (although I didn't realise it was her debut until after the show). They were both good and will grow into the roles. It must be a hard ask to play Christian when taking over from Jamie Muscato, who was quite phenomenal.
The full audience wasn't too bad either, at least not from where I was sitting. One phone (quickly silenced) and one person who yelled out "No" during the climatic scene where Satine rejects Christian (leading to a lot of audience laughter - still, no one on stage missed a beat).
Great to see one of my favourites, Zack Guest, in the ensemble (wearing his suits well). I believe he's somewhere on the cover Christian list, so hopefully he'll get the chance to go on. I didn't manage to see fellow former Newsies' cast member Matt Trevorrow on (he's a swing), so I'll have to try again. This is definitely a show that's grown on me, but you have to see it from the right part of the theatre to get the full effect.

Saw this this afternoon and can agree that Dom had absolutely nothing on Jamie. Dom is fine. Thought Tanisha’s vocals were excellent, best Satine I’ve seen vocally. Actually thought Vanessa Ela Young’s acting edged her though.

I thought both Dom Simpson and Tanisha Spring make excellent leads and have good chemistry. The rest of the cast did also a great job. Ben Richards is a brilliant Duke. I remember years ago when his name used to be a constant feature in the West End before he went into tv work. Enjoyed his performances in Smokey Joe's Cafe, Grease, Saturday Night Fever, The Full Monty and some others.

I see Boy George is going into the Broadway production as Zidler next year. Dreadful prospect.

I see Boy George is going into the Broadway production as Zidler next year. Dreadful prospect. I wouldn't say that I'm a fan but I admire Boy George- for his longevity and (In my opinion) this is a man who in the music industry, has found his niche. He's has an eclectic range of musical styles. I don't care about him being gay, or all of the make up and costumes, etc or the chanting. But the one thing a Boy George that really irks me is the fact that he's always laughing, like there some sort of inside joke that he's smirking about that we're not privy to. One hopes that if he's taking on such a role that he manages to reign that smirking in.

He just seems so unpleasant, this was kind of confirmed on I'm a celeb. Plus there's the whole imprisoning someone.

Casting him is deeply problematic. He’s a horrible person- and yeah- chaining someone up, not great.

I also really don’t see him as a Zidler (at least as portrayed thus far here and in Germany).
Feels a bit “any gay will do.”
Oh well. Maybe he’ll surprise us IDK 🤷🏻♂️

Was anyone at MR on Tuesday? A guy two rows in front of me had a heart attack right in the middle of the show and the ushers did nothing about it. It was awful. They just stared at the guy! A friend of mine who is CPR trained jumped in and began performing it until someone jumped in. It really made me think about how poorly ushers in the west end are trained. Scary.

Users everywhere have minimal training just to do their jobs. They aren't trained and shouldn't be expected to apply first aid, that said they should have been on their radios straight away to alert house manager and alert on site first aid (assuming their is someone trained)

Perhaps they just didn't understand what was going on? Was there a show stop to deal with the situation eventually? Well done to your friend. Hope he's made a full recovery.

Casting him is deeply problematic. He’s a horrible person- and yeah- chaining someone up, not great. Setting aside his criminal conviction, he was perfectly friendly when I met him at an awards ceremony. Affable and happy to chat. He did, of course, appear in Taboo so has some stage experience
