Quite possibly. My issue with Efron being cast as Joe is the over-processing and ridiculous amount of Auto-Tune that goes onto Efron vocally. Sunset Blvd is not a movie that needs to be smothered in Autotune. Boulvard is not going to be a Box Office smash (or comparable in figures to say Disney movie musicals) and should not be treated as such. Anyone who went to the recent UK tour can attest to the depleting numbers of attendance, indicating its diminishing appeal. By-and-large it wont appeal to Generation Z and casting Efron in an attempt to add curb appeal to this production would be (in my opinion) entirely misguided. Unless the intention is to write of a hell of a lot of cash for tax purpose, spurting megabucks on A-Lists (with the exception of Close) is not a good idea. Agree with all of the above. As a financial venture it’s dead in the water unless Netflix or someone is coughing up...maybe spread the costs across a zillion producers who want their name associated with a bit of quality.I just think that Efron, Jackman and Chris Pine are the only current proven male musical leads we have. Actually I'm going to go back on what I've said for one suggestion. Josh Groban.

Also, couldn’t enjoy him being dead. He’s about the coolest celeb we have atm and I wouldn’t want him sullied by something naff.

Wasn't there talk Glenn said she wouldn't do the Broadway run without the other three leads? With that in mind, could she request Michael Xavier at least in the lead male role, and have stars play the other two roles?

I really don't want Glenn in this either, I'm sure she acts the role incredibly but this is a musical so why not have someone who will act AND sing the role incredibly? There's already the original film if you want simply a masterclass in straight-acting. Sunset Boulevard is my favourite Lloyd-Webber and the score is epic, but only for me when sung by an amazing singer with star-quality. I've watched videos of Glenn singing the big songs and for me her voice takes all of the excitement out of them, and most of my excitement for the film away!
No matter who steps into the role in the future, and even though I never saw her live (I wasn't born), just from the cast recording Patti is MY Norma, and she always will be.
What about Lea Michele for Betty?

Glenn Close can't sell movies anymore, they'll need a bankable leading man if they want to make this

Was she in a film called The Wife recently?

I really don't want Glenn in this either, I'm sure she acts the role incredibly but this is a musical so why not have someone who will act AND sing the role incredibly? Same here, when will people learn that this artform only works when great singing is combined with great acting? Glenn's acting performance is ruined when she starts singing, as she separates the singing from the acting. This makes the singing feel out of place and the performance insincere. This idea that "toning it down/speak singing/separating the acting from singing" makes it more real should be thrown out of the window. It actually makes it feel more fake. I can't stand Hugh Jackman in Les Mis speaking 4 words "Now....come on.....ladies......settle" and then uses a 5 second vibrato in the word "doooooooooooown". While all stage Valjeans sing the line naturally and keep the last word short which is much more filmic and feels more realistic. "Natural" in this artform is the opposite of what some filmmakers think.

Yes - he's no Jeremy Jordan (who I'd love to suggest but he's too young if Glenn Close is Norma, and maybe a little too young anyway) but he can sing quite nicely. Bit too much vibrato for my taste in this one but the only musical theatre song that came up immediately: He was also on Glee, but with the amount of auto-tune going on on that show, I tend not to view it as proof of anything... I'd love to see him as Joe, for completely non-shallow reasons.

With Paramount Pictures involved, it's likely they'll get a name for Joe, Betty and Max. It doesn't need a huge budget but they likely won't skimp either

What on earth does "opened out" mean?
Slightly anxious it means more talking, less singing.
This could have been the best film ever with Dame Patti.....

Patti would be ridiculous on film, way too ott. With Glenn it's the small moments that were heartbreaking. That look when the spotlight hits her before AIWNSG...incredible.
I'd assume it means opening up the story a bit. I'd be happy with a bit less singing as long as the piece overall works

For me the show hangs on having a strong Joe, its really his story and barely off stage. Chris Pine or Jake Gyllenhaal would be ideal for the movie

JAKE GYLLENHAAL AS JOE.
GOD. PLEASE GIVE THIS TO US.
Also, I am so thrilled that Glenn gets to do this. And for GOD SAKE give her an Oscar people!

So roughly doing the math, if the film begins shooting October 2019, it will be likely a late 2020 (in the US)/early 2021 (everywhere else) release to make is Oscar eligable. Glenn will have her Oscar this time in two years. They may as well start etching her name onto that damn Oscar now.

In related news, the Gielgud Theatre has just been severely shaken by what witnesses describe as an extremely localised earthquake. Seismologists have traced the epicentre to one of the star dressing-rooms.

Hahaha :-) I mean of course I know could never have been her - but if they had to go with one of Nunn's Normas, give me Patti, Betty or EP any day. (Of course, REALLY they should have someone who is a) a great singer and b) currently in their 40's in the role but hey ho......)

I'm just glad I saw Company LAST night and not tonight. If I'd had to take shelter until the shaking stopped before I left the theatre, I might have missed my train home.

Just reading that it’s actually happening has me as excited as Norma on her way to meet Mr DeMille. Jake Gyllenhaal would be utterly perfect casting, and it wouldn’t surprise me if it bagged him a 2nd Oscar nomination either.
Please don’t let this be a false start... I wonder if ALW has a new song ready to go? If it’s shooting in October, they’d surely have to have the cast recording done well before then.

I can see Anna Kendrick making quite a good Betty?

Well quite. I think Anna could make a nice Betty. Provided they don’t cast Anne Hathaway/Amanda Seyfried I’m okay... 😂😂😂
