Nice present in todays post. Rear stalls ticket, no note or anything but confirms the balcony will be closed. With this and MOLM, two big BO flops!

It's a shame as this is such a brilliant musical (though who knows if this production will be any good, I'm not completely convinced by the clip of Dove Cameron singing Say it Somehow).

I saw on Instagram, can't remember where some pics of the set being built. It definitely looks grand enough and is now being advertised as 'fully-staged'!
Does anyone know of any discounts yet? Not selling amazingly and I'd like to catch it just for Celinde and Rob.
Do we think there could be a TodayTix rush for this? I know the Southbank centre is incredibly partial to papering!

It's a shame as this is such a brilliant musical (though who knows if this production will be any good, I'm not completely convinced by the clip of Dove Cameron singing Say it Somehow). I think this would have done so much better in one of the bigger/better fringe theatres like the Menier with a potential eye on a West End transfer. I suppose the ticket prices were/are that high to pay star names like Renee Fleming and Dove Cameron, though both may be a far bigger attraction in the USA than on this side of the pond. Especially Cameron, never heard of her, don't care for her and the little girls who may know her from her Disney work would not be interested in a show like Piazza. That said, I'm still looking forward to finally see it live (and I did fork out for a full price stalls seat, albeit with an Access discount that brought it down to 72.50, which is really just the standard West End theatre top price, too).

Menier and possible Wendy's End may have worked better in terms of sales. But this is an opera production that will then go on to two American opera houses.
Shame John Berry chose RFH which isn't a theatre and not Sadlers Wells which is an excellent theatre

Ticket reductions are available - e.g. £49 for front stalls on todaytix. You'll need to do quite a lot of comparing different nights. www.todaytix.com/x/london/shows/14716-the-light-in-the-piazza www.eveningstandardtickets.co.uk/london-theatre/musicals/the-light-in-the-piazza. If this had been Fleming doing Rosenkavalier at the ROH, there would have only been around 6-8 performances but there would not have been any reductions. Fleming is a very, very big deal in international opera (has been for decades) but is moving into musicals. She did a pop record some years ago, Dark Hope. It requires nothing from her voice. She drops it so far down she almost talks her way through the songs. The wonderful French coloratura soprano, Natalie Dessay, stopped doing opera for musicals a few years ago e.g. CD with Michel Legrand.

Booked for the final performance. Piazza was, for me, the unexpected highlight of a NY trip years ago. Literally booked it last minute on a whim and loved every moment. So I can’t wait to see this production.

It was the only performance I could feasibly see, which is also why I didn't want to risk waiting for discounts and not getting a good seat then.

And final performances always have a great atmosphere. Looking forward to it

Ive found a £19 ticket for this on the afternoon of west end live at the back of the stalls . Do you think its worth seeing? It's my second favourite musical. The music is gorgeous and romantic and the story is moving and heartwarming. It's just such a beautiful show and a steal to see for £19.

Are the book scenes good and does it have a good storyline because thats important to me as well. And i've heard about a very large orchestra and I love big orchestra's The back of the stalls seat seems ages away. Have you been in this centre before? What musical would you compare it to as being similar? Sorry about all the questions lol

What musical would you compare it to as being similar? Sorry about all the questions lol The book is probably the part that is cited as the weakest and it's a little uneven overall if I'm honest but the themes and message make the show for me so I'm able to forgive it. I've never been to the Southbank Centre so I can't tell you what it'll be like there or whether the production will be good or anything really but the show itself is great. In terms of comparisons I'd say it's quite difficult. Recently I've been listening to The Bridges of Madison County and that gives me similar vibes. It's just a very romantic, sweeping score. I want to say it's similar to some classic musicals but I feel like those often had very bombastic, orchestral scores whereas this doesn't but in the style of singing and instruments used it is not the average 21st century musical. I suppose it is sort of similar to some Sondheim shows like Sunday in the Park with George. I'd say listen to some early songs of the cast recording to get an idea of you'll enjoy it.

The score alone is absolutely ravishing, with some superb songs: “Fable” is one of my favourite musical theatre songs, and in the context of the show is superb, but it is packed with gems.

Ticketmaster doing heavy reductions on all performances to 10th July. How far away are the rear stalls, if you're sat say in Row RR? Is it a case of needing binoculars? Very tempted as it's a great cast but I can't see the point in spending the money if you can only see them as specks on the stage!

The two ladies who star in this (Renee and Dove) were on the Graham Norton BBC Radio 2 show this morning. They were very engaging in their conversation and they did a really good job in selling the show.

Does anyone know if they are very restricted? If you can get the front row of the side slips then you will be fine. The view won't be perfect but it will be fine. If you you can't get the front row then I wouldnt bother

My tickets have been changed by the venue from way back in the balcony to just a few rows from the front in the stalls. I’m guessing they might be closing the balcony, but I’m certainly not complaining! In my opinion the tickets were originally way overpriced, particularly for a niche show like this, so maybe some lessons will be learned by the producers as a result of having to reallocate the seats in this way.

I saw the dress rehearsal tonight and was very pleasantly surprised. The score sounds glorious and some of the costumes are breathtaking.
