I've had a JL credit card for years. Mainly use it when I buy stuff in their stores as you can build up the points. I save my vouchers for sale time. You also get, depending on how much you spend, vouchers for free tea and cake which is a nice treat. But as others have said they dont tell card holders about GILT. This is the first time I've heard about it.

You mean you don't make a special journey every Friday to pick up a copy of "Waitrose Weekend" in which the information appears? I'd keep that quiet if I were you, or they'll cut your card up at the till next time you shop, I'm warning you now. John Lewis for homeware. M&S for food. So not seen the mag. 😁

And sometimes pricey, too! I do collect the free Waitrose paper every week but have never seen in it anything GILT-related - not even in the theatre column.

I'm strangely addicted to the Waitrose (& Partners, let's not forget) free rag, despite having Quentin Letts providing the theatre reviews.

Thought it was worth a new thread as we now have dates, as pointed out by amuseical in the 2019 thread ... From the SOLT website, some dates! Shows will be announced Dec 3rd. Mastercard booking opens Dec 6th, 10am. General booking opens Dec 13th, also 10am. Useful information if you've not done it before .. the Mastercard presale is done via Priceless London. You need to create an account there, which you can do if you have any kind of Mastercard, and on the 6th there will be a presale link on Priceless which takes you to the Official London Theatre site. The presale doesn't work if you go direct to OLT. You can create a priceless account now, so worth doing it in advance so you have one less thing to worry about on the 6th! There is also (or was last year) a pre-sale for John Lewis card holders before the Mastercard presale. Presume this is the 4th or the 5th December.

I got a mastercard especially for this. Yay ha ha I've just realized my other half's work credit card is a mastercard. It's not supposed to be used for personal reasons but we we hope work will agree to the special one off purchase.

I can't remember, do they normally announce the shows before the first booking opens i.e. can you make a game plan before sales start?

Yes, they will announce on the 3rd Dec - although its common for them to add more shows later too.

Any speculation as to what might be included? Which types of shows tend to be in the sale? Ones that aren't selling well? Ones in large theatres? Or is it all sorts? Asking as a newbie at this.

Which types of shows tend to be in the sale? Ones that aren't selling well? Ones in large theatres? Or is it all sorts? Asking as a newbie at this. All sorts! A lot of big West End shows are usually offered, including some long-runners that don't often discount (I think Phantom has in the past, for instance?). You won't see the current hot shows like Dear Evan Hansen or Hamilton, but I would expect you might see for instance Waitress or Come From Away. Some shorter runs of plays are also included, and sometimes this is shows which aren't otherwise discounting (eg last year, there were good deals on Company and the Old Vic Christmas Carol). Also some of the smaller theatres like the Royal Court often participate. ] It does vary, and the allocation varies by show - you will always pay £20, £30 or £40 but how good a deal that is will vary. Incidentally, looking back at last year, the John Lewis presale was announced on the OLT site and it isn't mentioned this year. So perhaps that is not happening.

Either last year, or the year before, I got front row Les Mis tickets for about £40 which were half price.

I'm sure many of us received the email, but this year will be the first time theatre tokens can be used to book GILT tickets.
Plus, until midnight tomorrow, theatre tokens can be bought with a 10% discount, so a £20 GILT ticket is reduced further to £18, etc. (I worked that out all by myself, in my head!) Quote OLTGift at theatretokens.com, or on the phone.

Is this listed on the MasterCard Priceless website yet or am I too early?

Thanks Xanderl!
I'm a bit disappointed not to see Phantom or Les Mis on the list this year.

Last year I initially only booked Caroline Or Change @ £10, mainly because there was no choose seat facility on the shows I tried and I wasn't happy with what I was being offered for £40 or £30.
However I kept checking back and got some good deals a few days before the performance dates, most notably Wicked FRONT ROW on 29 January booked the previous week when a single seat was added to the New Year Sale. Quite a few of the venues added more and arguably better seats to the promotion in January and February.
I'm surprised by some of the exclusions, particularly OFAH and Phantom, but pleased that Wicked, Lion King, Matilda and most of all Tina will be available as they are rarely discounted.
I think it's the first year the London Palladium pantomime has been included. It closes only 12 days after the promotion begins.
Don't have a Mastercard myself but helpful next door neighbour does...

I've used my JL Mastercard for Prince of Egypt - I'd already booked for myself but I've got 2 tix for son and his partner for the same night. I'm quite disappointed with whats on offer. Rear stalls for Come From Away, way up top for A Christmas Carol (I'm going to miss going to the last night ). I was hoping for the Mischief Magic show. There's a few popular ones that I've already seen (Jamie, Waitress) but I'm not interested in a second viewing. I had a look at Girl from the North Country and it's rear stalls again.

Thanks Xanderl! I'm a bit disappointed not to see Phantom or Les Mis on the list this year. I only wanted the Phantom. This is my only chance of paying £30 for decent seats
