Such an amazing cast for this too.
If we ever get War Paint over here I want Claire Machin as Rubinstein and Sophie-Louise Dann as Arden.

I really hope it lasts until June when I'm taking my mum. It's a shame it hasn't sold but they were extremely stubborn with their pricing during previews that it may have put a lot of folk off I doubt it will be closed by June. Remember these rumours are only rumours and might not be true but I think it'll open until July atleast as that's when it's booking until. Are all 3 levels open at the weekend?

I think stalls and the dress circle were open. Around 3/4 full in the stalls. Absolutely loved this - so very northern tho and as a northern bird I loved it but could see it not appealing to the masses!

The marketing for this show has been pretty dreadful. The posters with the blue background that were on the Underground until recently got so many basics hopelessly wrong.
- "Pure Gold" in giant letters across the top of the posters, dominating them in a way that only the title should; - No pictures from the show included, instead we got a sunflower, with "The Girls" crammed inside it alongside the credits for Gary Barlow and Tim Firth and a brief allusion to Calendar Girls; - Not even any photos (initially at least, not sure if it's changed lately) outside the theatre, just an endless sea of sunflowers.
The posters just weren't eye catching at all and looked lost amidst the sea of superior advertising, particularly 42nd Street who seem to have got their publicity material spot on, both in terms of capturing the essence of the production and gaining people's attention. The latest advertising for The Girls is an improvement but is it too little too late?
Even despite the marketing though, with a seemingly ready-made fanbase of Gary Barlow and Take That followers to call upon, many of whom may not have gone near the show without his involvement, it's a surprise that its closure is rumoured so soon after opening.
Perhaps ultimately it was the wrong subject matter for a new musical and better marketing wouldn't have made a significant difference? If so, it would be somewhat ironic if familiarity with the story, which may have made The Girls appear such a safe choice for a risk-averse West End, has actually contributed to the show's undoing.

Wonder how busy take that are? Maybe Gary Barlow could do a stint in it to pick up interest? Is there a minor male role he could play? Maybe the florist?

Im convinced this will find its audience out on tour. No idea why but for me when I saw it the show had that feel about it.

Wouldn't put it past GB to have a The Girls segment in it.
You can bet your bippy there'll be something from The Band featured.

Any idea if you would get an upgrade from Grand Circle on a Thursday or Friday night?

Any idea if you would get an upgrade from Grand Circle on a Thursday or Friday night? Will depend on the week - looking at this Thursday/Friday I'd say no. However on future dates, if the Upper is quiet and there's space in the dress, chances are you'll get moved down.

Take That start their worldwide tour this week! Just looked on take that website.... there's a big gap in tour schedule for all of July and August. If they've taken dates off sale from end of July. Maybe it could be to dynamically price while he was in show?

Has anyone sat on the seats in the outer aisles of the stalls at this theatre? I see they are selling them for £35, but just wondered how restricted that are.

Fantastic, thanks Mark. I'm going on a Sat and there seems to be less availability than weeknights so not sure if there will be discounts available nearer the time. I thought buying the £35 ones just now was a safer option. Is either side good for this show, or is the blocking heavier on one particular side?

I've only sat high numbers side and it was fine, I actually think the low numbers side may be slightly better. I note that theatremonkey rates the ones in row K/L as the best of them.

Thanks for the advice. I will take a punt on J1, because for some reason it doesn't say it's restricted view (just noticed that).

Brilliant, really glad to hear that. I has a cheap seat in the Grand Circle last time I saw it, and was upgraded to the Dress, but that's not going to happen on a Sat night so figured the cheap stalls seats were the way to go. I saw 'quite enough' in the Dress to know that I don't need to see any more from the the Stalls. LOL!

Word on the street is that an extension will be announced in the near future...maybe it's not doing as terribly as we thought!

I was there again on Saturday afternoon and the website was showing a fair number of seats still available the day before. When we were there though the stalls were full and it sounded very busy in the dress and grand, too. I presume this has a lot of walk-up trade, as there were plenty buying tickets from the BO when I collected mine.
Edit: Also worth noting is that the cast began work in the studio making the recording this week. I long for Kilimanjaro blasting through my earphones.

My only concern would be will it make all the difference as it is mainly middle-aged groups that go, so will a younger audience off school flock to the show? We shall see!

The Phoenix seems to have inherited the Shaftesbury curse, the longest show there since Blood Brothers closed was Once. And the running theme of the last two "meant to be" long runners is... Sophie Louise-Dann! CURSED WOMAN, I'M TELLING YOU!! She was in Dagenham too! That makes it 3!

Which, on the topic, having seen the three of her recent performances (Dagenham, Bend It and Girls), Dangeham was a gem of a role and was the one she was strongest in! Her number was a show stopper that literally stopped the show for a solid two/ three minutes on closing night! I actually think she was robbed of an Olivier nomination that year.

Sophie Louise Damn is very talented but her constant head shaking and sour lemon faced expressions in my mind makes her extremely irritating to watch. Still, she's got the parts good for her!
