Latest tweet from the writer: "Dividing the critics, wowing its audience".
Did it divide the critics? I thought they were pretty unanimous!

I'm seeing this tonight - I'm actually pretty excited. I LOVE horrendously bad shows as much as good ones. It's mediocrity I can't bear.
If this is anything like "Too Close to the Sun", "Behind the Iron Mask" or "The Far Pavilions" then I'm guaranteed a great night 😁

At the interval. It's absolutely brilliant. Hilarious. Everyone should see this!

At the interval. It's absolutely brilliant. Hilarious. Everyone should see this! I was there too. Act 1 was bearable. Come on act 2 is so bad. It's not even funny. I felt so sorry for a really talented cast having to perform in this. There are a few good songs, a few things that work but most of it is clique or just poor writing.

The first 30 minutes or so of Act 1 is definitely the strongest part of the show. And then Michael Greco appears. Agree about feeling sorry for the rest of the cast. I saw the show before press night and even then at the curtain call several of the cast looked a bit awkward and embarrassed! One week to go!

To be fair to him, it is really difficult to fill a 312 seat theatre on a Saturday during the summer holiday using over sixty percent discounted tickets and with a healthy boost from a certain club we don't name. Credit where it's due.
And actually now I think about it that credit would be with the box office staff.

(Desperately wondering which club you mean?) Not that it's related to this thread or production at all, but I would just say that the first rule of comp club would be that you don't talk about comp club.

Frankly, "Comp club" sounds like a much better musical. DON'T TELL ANYONE!!!!!

I think that's where the audience is driven to seppuku. (And I think we now have a phrase to use when the entire audience seems united in its lack of appreciation for a production.)

The composer, lyricist, director, concept, book writer, etc says on FB that he's just signed a deal for it to come back to London in 2017.
And this time, he says, it wont be whilst everyone is on holiday.
That must be why ticket sales were so bad: everyone really wanted to see it, but they were on holiday.
I can't wait to see where it'll go.

Can't wait to hear those incredible lyrics, such as "looking out through this bellybutton window" again! If anyone wants a good laugh, this is undoubtedly the musical to see in 2017. I wonder if Greco will be back?

I'm not sure any of the critics ever realised that the "belly button window" line is a Jimmy Hendrix quote. But frankly, that doesn't sweeten the pill.

Why he can't he just release the 'I get a Stiffy from that name' song and leave us alone!

Can you imagine the critics having to go back to re-revue it?
I wonder, has any show ever "not" had a press night? These days you don't really need press reviews, you can just print whatever some random says on Twitter.... usually West End Wilma.

As one of those randoms I should be offended but it is true. You would be mad to not have a press night and even with hot competition for nights (the broadsheets rarely cover off-west end and fringe) you can still invite publications like The Stage and even my hot mess of a blog. I am fascinated to know which theatre is taking this on because even my review for London Theatre Direct was damning with faint praise. Plus if they don't get Greco it will be hard to market.

It really needs Greco back just for the amusement of the curtain call with him grinning like a Cheshire cat while the rest of the cast look awkward and embarrassed at what they've just inflicted on the public.
Maybe Sarah Harding could take over as Coke can girl?

...if they don't get Greco it will be hard to market. That's possibly the single funniest line I've ever heard, and possibly the scariest too!

It is a tragic state of affairs but do you really want someone who can actually sing singing "I GET A STIFFY FROM THAT NAME" It takes real talent to do that with a straight face.

Sadly for El Greco fans, he probably wont be available to reprise his award missing performance in Exposure, as he's joining BBC's Casualty.
Although a doctor is possibly what this show needs!
