I suppose but I’m just thinking of the logistical issues of rehearsing two performers at once plus tech etc. I’d have thought they’d have tried to get whoever was doing London to do the Manchester week before as well and then have the other Deloris for the remainder of the tour after London.

Took a punt and booked some front stalls seats in the hope that it is Bev.

Possible Deloris? I’d love it and she’d be fantastic but not the star name Whoopi was to sell out the Eventim Apollo all summer at those crazy prices. Also the whole reworking of Deloris as older would have to be done away with.
As far as the tour goes, I hope Brenda still does it, she deserves another theatre role after doing Hairspray on tour for about 100 years! It really depends on how she’s feeling by September though, her whole world has just been torn apart by the death of her son and no one would blame her if she wanted to take a long time out of the spotlight.

Yeah my guess is that Brenda was still scheduled to do the tour but has maybe withdrawn and maybe Marisha is doing it instead. She'll be a great Deloris.

Oh. I wouldn’t want to hear Marisha Wallace singing the score.
I was excited to hear the new duet between Deloris and the Mother Superior. I wonder if that’ll still be in it.

I wouldn’t see the show if Marisha was Delores. The two shows I’ve seen her in left me feeling underwhelmed by her acting. Her singing was obviously incredible but the acting was a completely different story.

Marisha is Ado Annie in Oklahoma at the YV.
But yes, cast news incoming...it's exciting.

Who would have thought that in a country of 70 odd million people we come back to the same 2 or 3 names for a POC female lead? Here’s hoping that it isn’t any of the above names, or Al Burke, rather someone that has been hiding in plain sight and is ready to show us what she has. (Hoping for Mrs Tembe from Doctors).

Yes many tours seem to need "names" to sell these days but you could easily have an unknown playing the lead and then have "names" for some of the other roles.

Carly Dyer would make a good Ado but her dance card is very full at the moment… she most definitely CAN say no!

A teaser video has just been posted on Facebook - Looks very much like Beverley Knight alongside Jenifer Saunders and Clive Rowe.

I imagine a lot of the principals are London only based on who they've got, bit ensemble will be doing both

Probably Mary Patrick. I can see her doing well at that, though it would be a bit of an underuse of her voice, to be honest.

If what I've heard is true (and I guess all will be revealed pretty shortly) then exciting casting for London and beyond - with some overlap - almost making up for the lack of Whoopi and definitely more appropriate. Some people really do make a habit of it.

Patina Miller was excellent in this. However she would be know Whoopi at the box office.
Does the roles necessarily have to be BAME casting though?

Deloris does need to be Black. Her mannerisms, her way of speaking and her story are very rooted in African American culture.

I agree but the majority of non professional productions have cast white performers in the role. The rights holders won't permit any changes to the lyrics or the dialogue.
I strongly believe that if you can't cast the role appropriately, then you should choose another show. But many amateur groups have taken the decision to just go for it.

There was a very well known amateur group in Glasgow that did a black face Delores and it makes me cringe every single time I see the show in their marketing for past shows.
