What's this all about? Are they trying to drum up more interest in the show by doing publicity with WoS? Are ticket sales starting to fall?

Great, another year of no new Elphaba.
But other than that, fabulous news for the rest of the cast. At least that is something to keep me going.
Guess we all have to go to these Standby shows now though, to see who the next Elphaba is gonna be!

I must say, what is nice to see is that other than Martin and Sarah (and the sister), all brand new faces to the lead roles in the West End, which is fantastic!

Wicked UK: "how do we drum up publicity for the cast change?"
"Oh I know, let's do a photoshoot with a sofa and film it"

What is nice is in that video you can tell how grateful Alice and Sophie are for getting these roles - seem very humble.

I must say though, credit where due to the team at Wicked, since Katie left, at least the Elphaba's have looked significantly older than the Nessarose's!

How old is Alice? I mean no intended disrespect to her, but she does look a fair few years older than Sophie...

Age is irrelevant if they're good! I'm looking forward to lots of trips to London to see the "new" Fityero, sorry, Fiyero

How old is Alice? I mean no intended disrespect to her, but she does look a fair few years older than Sophie... Elphaba technically is older than Glinda - Elphaba only goes to Shiz when Nessa is old enough, which means presumably Nessa is the same age as Glinda. The musical doesn't explain the age difference between Elphaba and Nessa, so honestly Elphaba could be 10 years older than Glinda if that's how they wanted to play it. See, I always knew that, but I always saw Elphaba as early 20's and Glinda as very late teens/early 20's.

To clarify my year off comment just in case it should be interpreted as a dig at any given performer it certainly isn't. I've got to take my daughter later this year anyway but aside from that I think its apathy towards the show itself. It would've taken something completely out of the blue and incredible to reignite the green flame within me.

It'll do me good to have some time away from wicked again I think. This is probably the most boring cast change ever for me - Bradley will be a great Fiyero and I love Melanie Le Barrie but apart from that very meh. What do we know of the new Standby?

Sophie is the best new for me! She was fabulous in Wizard of Oz, saw her twice and met her at stage door, lovely girl!

Sophie doesn't look like she has a funny bone in her body. She has a lovely voice from what I remember but I really can't imagine her bringing much humour to the role. Alice taking over as Elphaba was expected. I just hope she starts using a bit more control as many of her notes during defying gravity sound a bit rough or like her voice could crack. All in all, really uninspired casting.

Yeah thats a point, with Alice taking over, I hope she calms down that No Good Deed of hers! You've got the role now love, no need to throw your voice about like that.

If some of you won the lottery you'd complain about having too much money I swear I for one am thrilled about the cast change news. A brand new Glinda and standby Elphaba, along with an already proven Elphaba and Fiyero to head up an almost otherwise entirely new cast, what more could a Wicked fan wish for?

Have to say I am more surprised that the cast announcment actually happened, than the actual announcment itself.
Depending on how you look at it, its quite an alright cast change. Apart from Elphaba, Nessa, and Dillamond, its a whole new cast (apart from Fiyero if you caught the show in Bradford or Asia).
Have to say I love the thought of Melanie La Barrie as Morrible.
